ARCHIVED Salad Dressings
2Boys4Me replied to hez's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Shirley, Renee's Caesar dressing is gluten-free. You can find it at Sobey's for sure, and I think Safeway as well. I don't think they sell Renee's at Superstore. It's not as good as the Kraft Garlic Lovers Caesar, but that's life. Oh yeah, if you call or email Renee's they'll send you a gluten-free list and a whole lot of coupons for dressings and marinades... -
That happened to me, too. Then I switched to Carol Fenster's sorghum/corn flour blend and made chocolate chip "squares". They were good, but a bit overcooked on the edges. I heard something about refrigerating the dough for an hour or so first and then they might not spread so much. I haven't tried that yet, I've been wrestling with pie pastry. I look...

ARCHIVED How Can Family Members Help?
2Boys4Me replied to confusedaunt's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They know the basics: no wheat, rye, oats and barley. What I want is when they call me to ask if he can have such and such an item, and I ask for the ingredients, I want them to read ALL the ingredients to me. There was one questionable ingredient, so I said not to use it in the marinade, we would come early and bring a gluten-free version to use. The cook... -
ARCHIVED Do I Really Have To Be That Careful?
2Boys4Me replied to bluckii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link That's a link to a similar post from earlier this year from the administrator of this site about teflon and wooden utensils. The post says that a thorough handwashing (in hot, soapy water) of all wood/teflon/cast iron should be sufficient. (The post I'm referring to is post #10) -
ARCHIVED Cookbooks For Children
2Boys4Me replied to JacobsMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We have Sheri L. Sanderson's book. It's called (something like) Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids 150 family tested recipes. A friend from work saw a Carol Fenster book (something like) Wheat and Gluten Free Meals and bought that for me, and we have the Gluten Free Gourmet makes Bread. The dietitian and Celiac Association had a lot of handouts... -
My younger son is the one in our family with Celiac. His maternal ancestry is Irish (mostly) with a bit of Scottish and Welsh thrown in. On his paternal side they are English and either Irish or Scottish (can't remember) and Grampa supplies us with some Hungarian or Czech (they're not really sure...the surname is Czech, but they spoke Hungarian). Put us...

I don't think Canadian Snickers are gluten-free. If you're in Canada, double check the label.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Hard Candy? gluten-free Ice Cream? gluten-free Soda?
2Boys4Me replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What about Tic Tacs? The only thing weird to me was magnesium stearate and that wasn't on any of my lists. I let my son have some orange Tic Tacs. The website was useless, and I couldn't find a phone number. -
ARCHIVED Mainstream gluten-free Yogurt?
2Boys4Me replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In Canada all Yoplait is gluten free except I think there's a cookie or oatmeal or something cookie-ish flavour, and that isn't gluten-free. I got an email response from Yoplait in August and I'm pretty sure the cookie kind came out after that. I'm at work, so I can't post the response. Also, I think pretty much all the Superstore (regular and Organics) are... -
ARCHIVED Igg And Tissue Transglutemaninase Levels
2Boys4Me replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to admit I'm not sure which tests my son had, but they were represented in a ratio. Anything less than 1 : 2.5 is negative for Celiac (Mom, Dad and big brother). Ty's was 1 : 650. Yikes! We have a follow up soon, so I'll ask for a look at all the paperwork. At the original test and first follow up we were all so overwhelmed, it didn't occur to... -
ARCHIVED Brazilian Cheese Bread
2Boys4Me replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey Lonewolf, Did you ever do another attempt at these cheese rolls? I am going to try some this afternoon. I just made a trip to the Asian market, so I know I have plain tapioca starch. The pictures look so yummy. I am trying them in an effort to get a decent bun for Christmas. My goal is to have NOTHING on the table that my son CAN'T eat. I think... -
I believe guar gum is used as a laxative. I wish I could help you all with figuring it out, but my son (the Celiac) never had any "classic" symptoms to gluten of any kind, nor does he have any symptoms now...I have no idea if he's ingesting any accidentally or not. I guess my only suggestion is to avoid anything made with tapioca for a couple of weeks...

I'm female, 18 (with 11 years experience ), but I post here because of my son who has celiac. He is six, and therefore shouldn't be in this section of the forum for another 7 years. Gack! edited to say I'm 18 with 21 years experience ! Clearly my math skills need work.

Hi Carrie, I am still waiting for the Lea & Perrins people to email me back. They must be very busy, I emailed them in October . Meanwhile, I have never found a gluten-free worcestershire sauce, the first ingredient on them all is Malt Vinegar EXCEPT Heinz. I was so excited and then I read the brackets after soy sauce. The soy sauce they use...

I am pleased with Boston Pizza because when I phoned them yesterday to say that we were part of a hockey team having a party there and that my son couldn't eat gluten which put pretty much everything off limits, can I go to the neighbouring Mongolie Grill and get some take out and eat with the team...the manager said yes. She said she would jot down a note...

ARCHIVED Canada Delphi List?

Open Original Shared Link There's a link to a post by Carrie with a link to a PDF list for Canada. -
I have a friend who works at Olive Garden (in Canada) and she said she would not recommend anyone with Celiac eat there. I asked about non-pasta dishes and she said they put flour on everything. It's in the spice they put on the chicken and she mentioned the roasted potatoes as well. She told me to stick with Chianti's (a local celiac friendly Italian place...

ARCHIVED Got My Sons Blood Test Results...
2Boys4Me replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At least you are getting some answers. I'm glad the diet is going well for your son, even though you haven't quite figured out what's going on with you. As for blood tests, I'm not sure which result this is, I only had a glance at the doctor's computer, (she was running late and I'll get more details in March) my older son and I were negative for celiac... -
ARCHIVED 16mo Getting Biopsy In One Week!
2Boys4Me replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had his biopsy when he was 5 1/2 years old (in August 2005). He had to fast from 11 pm on Wednesday until they gave him the popsicle after the biopsy Thursday morning. He was not allowed anything, even water. We got to the hospital, they admitted him, weighed him, etc. The nurse came to get him, he and his bear Bobby went with her and we saw him about... -
ARCHIVED Lotions
2Boys4Me replied to ILOVEOMC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cetaphil is gluten-free. There was a post by JerseyAngel (I think) wondering about it--her bottle didn't have an 800 # on it. Mine did, I called and was told that U.S. and Canada have the same manufacturing plant, and that most items are gluten free. I have to find the post. Hang on a sec. Open Original Shared Link Okay, there's the link and here's... -
I've read on several internet sites and heard from various people, that 1% of the population suffers from an anaphylactic peanut allergy. 1% is rare, yet I can name at least four people off the top of my head with a peanut allergy so severe they carry epipens on them at all times. It's not that Celiac is so rare, just that people don't die a quick immediate...

ARCHIVED Christmas Recipies
2Boys4Me replied to Mahee34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here's a recipe for Sugar Cookies. I neither eat nor bake Sugar Cookies, but they are a staple at my mother-in-law's house at Christmas. She made them, iced & decorated them (checking all labels, of course) and says you can't tell the difference between these and the usual ones she makes. Gluten Free Sugar Cookies â…“ cup margarine â…“ cup shortening 1 ... -
ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
2Boys4Me replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What?! Quaker puffed rice is unsafe? The Quaker 800 # has a press one for English, press three for gluten free items thingy on the automated answer and the voice told me that Quaker puffed rice is gluten-free. (This wasn't one of the usual voices I hear, it came from the phone ) I guess it doesn't matter anyway, I've never found Quaker puffed rice...
