ARCHIVED Feel Like I'm Poisoning Myself
EmiPark210 replied to jmryan83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most general practitioners can order a blood pannel test so I wouldn't recommend going off it. But staying on doesn't mean cheerios for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and pasta for dinner. It can mean as little as a half serving of wheat crackers, a piece of bread, a cookie (or two) per day. 3 weeks is enough time that if they tested you at that appointment... -
ARCHIVED Should I Test The Siblings For Celiac?
EmiPark210 replied to pryforma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definitely. I'm sure your GI explained all the reasons why the gluten-free diet must be adhered to. As others have said, your other children could not be displaying symptoms yet and also have a high chance of developing it later because it is genetically linked. Before you cut out all gluten, you and the children's other biological parent should also get... -
ARCHIVED When Is The Best Time To Gluten?
EmiPark210 replied to EmiPark210's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started totally back on gluten last night (instead of not worrying about/encouraging cross contamination), and I was trying to not look for the symptoms...but they weren't there at all. When I first began noticing a gluten sensitivity, I noticed I could handle it better if I had a protein heavy meal and this was true last night as well. I'm having some... -
ARCHIVED When Is The Best Time To Gluten?
EmiPark210 replied to EmiPark210's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got academic support on board to help with note taking now that I'm not going to have tests until a couple weeks after the endoscopy so that should help. I didn't get a complete blood pannel done, only ttg IgA because I didn't find this lovely forum until a week or two afterwards. I've only been able to discern the gluten cycle after going off it and... -
ARCHIVED Anxiously Waiting For Blood Results As Well As Skin Biopsy Results
EmiPark210 replied to mamat78's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hang in there! The time between getting the test done and finding out can be pretty stressful. And welcome! Be sure to stay on gluten through getting your tests back because if they come back negative then you are probably in the clear (though gluten-free never hurt anyone). But if your tests come back positive, then you'll have to do a gluten challenge... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test And No Symptoms...what Should I Do?
EmiPark210 replied to ip87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you feel like you need the double security of having a biopsy to be absolutely sure, then do it. If that's what it takes for you to go completely 100% gluten free for the rest of your life, then do it. As Cara said, this is a really serious autoimmune disorder that has it's consequences whether you're symptomatic or not. If you have a copy of your blood... -
ARCHIVED New Here, Feeling Miserable
EmiPark210 replied to SarahRN482's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum and you've come to the right place for questions about gluten intolerance! It sounds like your symptoms are lining up strongly enough with gluten consumption to warrant a test. The unfortunate news is you have to continue eating gluten throughout testing for celiac to maintain antibody levels and damage in the small intestine. So... -
ARCHIVED How Much Gluten For How Long For Diagnosis?
EmiPark210 replied to surelyk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you know you can't eat wheat then you could consume barley, rye, and spelt to do a Celiac antibody test. A wheat allergy and celiac's disease elicit separate reactions, but can both happen to the same person. (Open Original Shared Link) The University of Chicago Celiac Center recommends a gluten challenge (eating a small amount of gluten daily) for 1... -
ARCHIVED When Is The Best Time To Gluten?
EmiPark210 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know I've posted a lot about my biopsy and the process to get me here... but the date has FINALLY been set. I will be done testing April 19th at 8:30am! Very exciting. But here's my issue, cause there always seems to be one. I don't know when to time my gluten intake. I'm a college student who has classes on and off from 9:30am till 5pm. My morning... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Confirmed=No Longer In Denial...please Help!
EmiPark210 replied to jamiecasabellameeks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It'll get easier. a) If you have non stick pans that don't have scratches in them, from what I've read here that should be fine (please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong) but you should replace anything that can absorb whatever you use it with or things that aren't cleaned so that would include wooden spoons, natural bristle basters, cast iron skillets... -
ARCHIVED Wein, Österreich
EmiPark210 replied to EmiPark210's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I will definitely be updating as I learn more about what my options are in Austria. I did find the Celiac's Society there. Open Original Shared Link I haven't found a "read in English" button for people who don't speak/can't get by in German. -

ARCHIVED Vienna, Austria - Studying Abroad For The Summer
EmiPark210 posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hello Everyone! I was wondering if anyone had tips about having celiacs in Austria. I'll be there for a month and a half this summer brushing up on my German and studying psychology in Vienna. I will be living in a shared apartment so I can make most of my meals, but there will probably lots of days of going out to get food as a group, and nights spent... -
Whenever something activates my IBS (like highly processed corn or caffeine) then my colon begins to spasm, usually in the transverse colon area. But for being glutened, I get really nauseous initially and then later moving abdominal pain as my body builds up gas and tries to decide what to do with the gluten. But wherever there is a gas bubble, it's extremely...

ARCHIVED Female Cramping...men Read At Your Own Risk :)
EmiPark210 replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For dealing with the cramps naturally, of course hot baths or heating pads. You can also massage your psoas muscle. You can find it by laying on a bed with one leg hanging off, put your same hand as the leg hanging off perpendicular to your body with your middle finger on your belly button. Turn your hand halfway in between your belly button and hip bone... -
ARCHIVED I Don't Know How Much More I Can Take.
EmiPark210 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I see a lot of people post with such worse reactions and lots of other issues and mine are beginning to pile up. In short.. how the heck do you deal with so many things/issues? Some background (totally optional read)... I started having colon spasms my freshman year of high school (2006) which were self-diagnosed at the time as period cramps. My senior... -
ARCHIVED Day 2 Of Adding Gluten In Prep For Test
EmiPark210 replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hang in there! You'll get through this! I took a nap for the first time since I had the flu (never napped as a child) but haven't seen any other signs of my cross-contaminating dinner last night. Maybe it would help with the issues if you had some probiotics, pill or yogurt form, and make sure to drink a lot of water! Both for the issues and to help offset... -
ARCHIVED Cyrex Labs--Do I Really Have A Gluten Intolerance?
EmiPark210 replied to nostalgic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you don't trust the labs that did your testing you could go back on gluten for about 12 weeks and get a test done through your PCP or a local hospital. But if you can get a copy of your actual lab results with the types of tests done and post them here, we can help you interpret them. As to menstrual related issues, I was having the same thing when... -
ARCHIVED Can Testing Wait?
EmiPark210 replied to bambino716's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You've come to the right place! As stanleymonkey said, some schools and colleges won't make institutional level exceptions without an official diagnosis (such as allowing for different meal plans in college or allowing freshmen to live in an apartment rather than regular freshman housing). However, I haven't had trouble getting fed when I went directly... -
ARCHIVED Test Result Confusion
EmiPark210 replied to mythreegems's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are other people who know more about the specific blood tests so I'll let them answer to those more specifically. The IgE Wheat test is for an allergy which is different and separate for celiac's though it is possible to have both. Open Original Shared Link But if you are wanting to have a endoscopy to confirm damage within the small intestine (the... -
ARCHIVED Input Is Appreciated!
EmiPark210 replied to gringa-lg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're within the US and still are able to get to the offices where he has had work done, you (or he more likely) should be able to get copies of any of the tests done. If you are able to do that and see any of the tests that nvsmom talked about, feel free to post the results here and we can help you figure them out as well as internet searches for anything... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says I Should Take Anti-Anxiety Meds...................
EmiPark210 replied to nosy parker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As everyone says and you seem to agree with, starting with meds is a bad idea. For your son's healing, maybe getting a vitamin pannel done can help show if he's having any deficiencies that could be harming healing. Educate yourself about Celiac's so you can make sure everything is being tested up to spec. But make sure when you talk to the doctors you give... -
ARCHIVED I Get To Gluten Myself - Endo Next Friday
EmiPark210 replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you chew gum? That can cause a lot of excess stored air into your system which can create feelings of pressure. But if bubbly stuff helps, maybe expanding your options outside of alcohol might also alleviate issues? I am a huge lover of ginger beer (ginger ale is to weak tasting) for a caffeine-free, nonalcoholic bubbly drink, and the ginger can help with... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For One To Feel Better?
EmiPark210 replied to arocchio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congratulations! But if you have a history of reacting painfully to bread products, it is still worth getting checked. If you do have celiac's or some sort of gluten intolerance there is a chance that your baby could develop it as well. You do have to go back on a gluten diet for 12 weeks for an antibody test or 3 weeks for an endoscopy (about). However,... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Celiac Blood Work To Come Back?
EmiPark210 replied to Currantbun's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got mine back in exactly a week but the health clinic at the university is connected to our hospital so that could speed things up. Maybe you can find a number for the labs they sent your work to, if you know which hospital? PS. If your blood work comes back positive, then they will refer you to a GI to get an endoscopy. Stay on at least a "gluten...
