  1. I'm trying to understand the science -- if I've been gluten-free for a month (diagnosed celiac) and I accidentally get glutened, am I back to Square One? Was all that effort (and saying 'no') wasted? Are my villi and gut back to where they used to be before I went gluten-free? Or is it more a cumulative impact of repeated glutenings? Thanks, Nikki
  2. Hi - first time flying since being diagnosed with Celiac - can you order special meals on the planes? It's a long flight. And if so, are they the same whether you're in economy, business or first? Thanks, Nikki
  3. Could there by MSG in the seasoning blend? My mom reacts very strongly to MSG, and in some ways it mimics a glutening (though shorter term).
  4. Hi, I'm a busy working mom who was never an accomplished cook to begin with, though I enjoy it. Now that restaurants are less than simple, I'd like to use this opportunity to cook more at home. I don't really need to start with baking -- I was never that into cookies and cakes, but I'd like to find quick and easy recipes for things with a little spice...
  5. I hope Old Bay doesn't have bread crumbs - my husband has been using it to make the most amazing Brussels Sprouts (and I read the label, seemed fine) As for tuna, I make what I call Mediterranean Tuna Salad: Albacore Feta Cheese crumbled Olive oil Chick Peas Red Onions Greek or Italian Herb blends I have no idea of the proportions, but not...
  6. Hi - I've been gluten-free for about a month after a positive Celiac diagnosis. My symptoms were relatively mild - some diarrhea and joint pain (though I'm only guessing it was related). I think I've been fairly strictly gluten-free, save for one episode where I'm pretty sure I got cc at a restaurant (a hippy dippy vegan restaurant that is known to be gluten...
  7. I was diagnosed with Celiac about a month ago and have tried to be strictly gluten-free since then, while still trying to go to restaurants with my kids and husband. I was excited to try Chipotle, as I'd read here and elsewhere that they're very gluten-free aware and would make efforts to avoid CC once told that you have Celiac. So, today we stopped into...
  8. Thanks for the link.. That's very interesting.
  9. I was diagnosed with Celiac last month and my research has me wondering: My Father in Law had significant bags under his eyes and so does my husband. When an allergist saw the bags under my young son's eyes, he mentioned that maybe he (my son) had a wheat allergy (didn't test him for it, we were there about a possible cat allergy). We said "No, look at...
  10. If you like rye bread, the Schar Deli-Style bread is a fairly good facsimile. It breaks apart a bit easily, but is pretty good.
  11. I just checked the Altoids web site and I don't see wheat on the ingredients. I hope they're ok, my breath has really gotten nasty since I've been gluten-free and I've been popping Altoids. Are you seeing it on the ingredients list for the Peppermint flavor?
  12. Thanks - I didn't know about that site. I tried to call Starburst, but they're closed. I'll try in the morning (I REALLY want that bag I bought!) Maybe they don't list it because it's just a cleaned production line, not dedicated.
  13. I saw on gluten-free Overflow that Starburst Jelly Beans are gluten-free, but something told me to check the Starburst site. It seems they are no longer Gluten Free? Other products say Gluten Free in the ingredients list, but the Original Flavor Jelly Beans don't. So I guess this means they're not?
  14. I just tried Tandoor Chef Chicken Pad Thai and it was really good. It says "Gluten Free" though not certified and it does say made in a facility that processes tree nuts, milk, wheat and sesame, so not for everyone. Ingredients are: Rice Noodles, Chicken Breast, Onions, Bean Sprouts, Milled Cane Sugar, Scallions, Peanuts, Carrots, Canola Oil, Vinegar...
  15. These are great ideas. Thank you.
  16. Thanks - is it generally ok to trust the stores? I'm still trying to get the hang of who to trust. But I will give them a call.
  17. Hi - I'm new to gluten-free (having been diagnosed with Celiac about three weeks ago). Even before my diagnosis, I loved many of the meals from Macro Vegetarian. While several are labeled Vegan or Wheat Free, none are specifically labeled gluten-free. I have tried to find a contact number for them, but can't. The ingredients all seem safe, but I...
