  1. I have to recommend This Chick Bakes cookies. They just started selling them at my local deli. Some are labeled Gluten Free and some are not, so I was wary of cross contamination concerns. I e-mailed the company and got this back from one of the owners: Thanks for taking the time to write to us. And no, we are definitely > not a certified...
  2. That's too bad, I like Le Veneziane, too. I also like Schar.
  3. Hi - I've been doing very well on my gluten free diet since my dx in early March. The only thing I haven't quite figured out are more breakfast ideas. I used to grab a quick egg/turkey bacon on a bagel or english muffin in the morning at the local deli. It's not really possible for me to eat at home before getting the kids ready for school and out...
  4. Oh yes, breaking into tears outside of Chipotle when I realized they weren't taking any precautions and I couldn't trust to eat safely there (my local one, I started a thread). And then again when my mom said I was over-reacting, and don't let this be such a big deal (after I broke down, she did some research on her own and realized that this was serious...
  5. Also, I'm still a little lactose intolerant, so the milk sometimes sets me off. And I certainly can't drink whole milk (never could, actually) in any quantities. Maybe it's not the cereal, but the milk?
  6. This is really helpful! Can I ask how you found the info on Burts Bees? It wasn't on their website, and it says to call them. Does this apply to ALL their lip products? (that would be great, if so).
  7. Hi - Has anyone tried any of the frozen meals from Lyfe Kitchen? These have recently started appearing at my grocery and look really good. After noticing an entree (Chicken Chile Verde) which didn't seem to have gluten I went on the website which said something to the effect of, "While many of our entrees do not contain gluten ingredients, we do not have...
  8. I have a Pret a Manger near my office and frequently get a salad from there for lunch. The Chicken and Avocado salad is listed on the website as gluten-free and I've never had a problem with it. I wanted to get something new and went on their site and saw that the Cobb Salad is listed as Gluten-Free, but it has Blue Cheese on it. I'm still relatively...
  9. Thanks - both of you. Do they actually say gluten-free on the packaging, or do you check on the website?
  10. Hi - I've been gluten-free (dx with Celiac) about 5 months I'm feeling much, much better. I did have what I can now see were 2 neuro episodes - one before dx and one about a week after I started gluten-free. One thing I haven't been able to suss out of everything I've read -- what causes the neuro issues: Is it malabsorption of vitamins? Or it inflammation...
  11. I left my red apple lipstick at work and need something today. Are there any drugstore brands I can pick up quick? Thanks !
  12. For an acquaintance or non-family member, I have no problem with going to a catered meal like a wedding and pushing the food around on my plate, but not eating. I'm not really going to tell the host (unless I know that money is super-tight for them) because I try to avoid making my celiac the topic of conversation (it gets boring after a while) and it creates...
  13. If I'm uncertain I will find acceptable food, I try to bring a bag of gluten-free pretzels with me and maybe one of those non-perishable hummus squeeze things. Or a Go Picnic, some mixed (gluten-free) nuts, and a banana. Bananas can be very filling and hold you over until you can get to something.
  14. I just bought my first one, but the color is fairly pale (sand storm or something like that) Are they sold in any stores where you could try out or at least see the colors? They're not cheap, and I'd like to get it right next time.
  15. My Shoprite in NJ has them, and I also love the Schar deli-style bread. It's fairly close to rye bread.
  16. Hi Kareng - I'm confused - the link goes to a page that says only the tortillas have wheat and gluten. Am I reading it wrong?
  17. My favorite so far is Le Veniziane..
  18. Thanks. I certainly hope I haven't been carrying this around untreated all these years.
  19. Hi - my husband bought that big container of dry roasted almonds at Costco yesterday, and I had a few handfuls. Yes, I know it says packaged on the same machinery that may handle wheat, but I've had no problems with Kirkland nuts before, so I took the chance. Afterward I felt a little 'jittery' in my hands (had difficult writing an e-mail on my smartphone...
  20. I didn't see the other thread - but for me, smelling amonia means I've got a sinus infection.
  21. They have service dogs that can sense when you're about to have a seizure - at least a grand mal, I think. I met a woman once who had a dog with her and she was allowed to drive with him in the car (back roads) - he would alert her and she'd pull over.
  22. Make sure you're not overdoing it on the nuts and avocados. It's easy to do and has caught me up as I make this transition. Also, in the first few weeks, I would gorge on the gluten-free foods I found, "just in case" I couldn't find them later. Had to stop that, too.
  23. yes - I was just reading about those 'absence seizures' - sounds like what's happening when you 'lose time'.
  24. Love the fruit smoothies. The Berry Cherry Chiller is awesome.
