  1. Hi - I got these ingredients back from Williams- Sonoma on one of their grilling rubs - I think everything is safe, but thought I'd throw it out to the cloud for feedback, as I'm still relatively new to this. Thanks! Kosher salt, Indian turmeric, sugar, garlic, orange peel, Marash pepper, coriander, citric acid, Turkish cumin, freeze-dried thyme,...
  2. Can you marinate chicken in gluten-free Soy Sauce and OJ?
  3. I take a generic levothyroxine. I think the manufacturer name is Mylan and I checked a few months back and it was gluten-free.
  4. Ahhhh. Very clever! I like these. Thanks.
  5. I want to add that I really have no idea, and you should ask her doctor whether that's a possibility before adding in vitamins.
  6. Have her vitamin levels been checked? I have a suspicion that my headaches pre-diagnosis and even a bit after were due to low levels of B12 and/or D. Not a scientist, just a suspicion.
  7. I don't understand this - Maybe I'm not thinking creatively, but how does this work?
  8. I recently called a restaurant where this happened to me. They were so nice and attentive and helpful when I told them my issue, and assured me that my steak was gluten free - I'm guessing that the issue was the marinade on the steak. It tasted too good and was probably marinated in soy sauce. I wanted to alert them that soy sauce is not gluten free....
  9. Thanks - so it tends to err on the more conservative side? I guess that's better than the other way!
  10. Has anyone had a reflux type reaction to wine? I had awful, awful reflux last night (almost never have it otherwise) after two glasses of white, and no food. Wondering if it could be related to the celiac?
  11. I know this has been asked before, but I didn't see anything recent and these things change all the time. Does anyone have iPhone/iPad apps for gluten-free that they love? I just downloaded something called Shop Well and it seems like it might be useful (has a bar code scanner), but I'd love some kind of easy lookup app. Anyone know how often these things...
  12. Wow. That's too bad. From your first post it seemed like the manager had stopped the server before any of the coated cheese had hit your plate. But i guess i mis-read. Could it have been some other part of the meal that got you? I'm so nervous now after a local restaurant was SO accommodating and yet I got glutened.
  13. Wow. So interesting. Thanks everyone. I would have never suspected the relationship. I guess this is a good sign for me that I'm dealing with a glutening rather than just something disagreeing with me.
  14. Thanks, all - this is very helpful. It's probably the fat content. I've ordered some certified gluten-free pistachios and I'll see how I do with those. Good or bad, looks like I need to lay off them for a while.
  15. If the celiac doesn't pan out, you may try going gluten-free anyway and see if it helps, but I would also reconsider your stance on anti-depressants. I have seen many many people helped by them. If you have any other chemical imbalance, you wouldn't think twice about remedying it with medicine. That's what depression is. Good luck.
  16. Anyone eat at this mini-chain for salads and burgers? I tried it today for the first time since being diagnosed with Celiac about two months ago. They've recently started a separate menu which lists the many gluten-free options. I didn't order the french fries (this time), but I was told they use a dedicated fryer. The manager seemed to have done his...
  17. I'm quite sure I got 'glutened' at a restaurant last night. No need to go into the details, but I was a mess with D most of this morning. I've been gluten-free for about two months and generally feeling good. Tonight, I'm feeling like my mouth has got scurvy - i know, too early for a vitamin C deficiency, but that's how it feels. I was just starting to...
  18. I think we let down our guard just a little bit after a couple of months. I bought something in a rush and didn't check it until I got home. Had to throw it out -- what a waste! Teaches us to remain vigilant.
  19. If you like rye bread, I find the Schar's Deli Style bread is pretty, pretty close. A little crumbly and I wish the size were different (and the price) but not bad.
  20. Thanks to both of you - I think I'll check out the certified gluten-free pistachios. If those make me sick, too, then I know it's not gluten. And that's interesting about the fats. I had a big (big!) helping of guacamole last night and had difficulty this morning -- Sounds like that could have been why. And this would go away as I heal, right? (because...
  21. I just bought my first (rudis?) bread and now not sure how long it will keep? Says nothing on the packaging -- anyone know?
  22. I'll bet with dating you have better luck saying you have some food allergies, so it would be helpful to find out the name of the restaurant beforehand. Then you can check out the menus. I think strangers get less freaked out if they think you have allergies than that you have a 'disease'. And, in fact, that is what this thing is. Good luck. I've...
  23. Hi - still relatively newly diagnosed (about two months). For the last couple of years, about the same length of time I've had celiac symptoms, I've noticed that eating lots of pistachios gives me mild D. However, I do still love them and hope to be able to keep having them -- am I doing similar type of damage to my villi or anything else by eating them...
  24. Kids that age know about allergies. I just say, no thanks, I'm allergic to that.
  25. Just wondering - for those of you who do eat out, what do you order? They had rice noodles and pad thai on the menu, but I was too afraid to get it. I ended up with steamed rice and steamed broccoli - asked them to make sure that there was no sauce, and to be careful bringing it out. I feel fine, but who knows. Are there other options?
