  1. My husband (non-Celiac) wants a bread maker/machine for his birthday. First question - is there one you would recommend? We have limited counter space so it would be kept in a closet and carted out when needed, and the bigger question - is there any way in the world that there would be one that is so easy to clean thoroughly that I could use it to make...
  2. My son's camp has 6 celiac kids and a dedicated food prep area for them. They prepared a great meal for me on visiting day! That said, my son said a friend got glutened badly on a field trip (asked carefully at snack bar but got hit anyway - I'm sure camp will send snacks next year) Just saying many camps are aware now. Ask.
  3. Hi. I'm seeing mixed information on this. I know I could make my own seasoning, but my husband bought this, so I'd like to know. On one hand, I'm seeing that Ortega follows clear labeling practicing and would call out any gluten ingredients explicitly, but on he parent company's website (b &g foods) it's not listed as gluten free. Anyone know...
  4. Those look SO good! Thanks
  5. You may want to check out Nuts.com. They have gluten-free nuts without Cross Contamination risk, and the stuff arrives really fast.
  6. I have taken Emergen-C with no effects.
  7. Thanks everyone, but I'm afraid my quick writing gave the wrong impression. I'm VERY careful about cc and strict on my gluten-free diet. However, as you've noted - accidents DO happen. I have to travel and eat business meals for my livelihood, and I choose to go out with my family to eat so that my children don't feel, should they eventually get Celiac...
  8. I believe my Celiac dx came relatively soon after onset (maybe within 2 - 3 years) and I my villi damage was only 'patchy' in the words of my Dr. I went gluten-free last March and my GI symptoms have improved markedly. After about 4 months gluten-free, I got both blood and endo tests and Dr. said everything was hugely improved, he could hardly see evidence...
  9. Hi - I wonder if anyone can tell me if they safely eat TJ's Cottage Cheese. My mom bought me a container, and I hate to waste it. I checked the TJ's gluten-free list, and it says that all TJ branded dairy is safe (except for certain block cheeses), but I know that TJ's sometimes has CC issues and their list isn't that reliable. Thanks.
  10. I have taken it without a reaction, however - I don't think I'm super-sensitive to cc and my 'glutening' reactions are not always consistent or readily apparent. I love Emergen-C!
  11. I had a similar mix up at a PF Changs, and iI have to say that I was similarly impressed with their customer service. They seemed genuinely concerned abut the breakdown in procedure and sent a gift card.
  12. Thanks. I think I will! - You were right about the Israeli support group!
  13. I've searched and found conflicting info. Is Seagram's Ginger Ale gluten free? I desperately want the can my husband bought by accident!
  14. I use a separate cutting board (different color) and toaster. Everything else s shared and washed well. I'm not super sensitives to cc bough, I think, and we have stainless pots and pans and colanders, so there's no scratches to worry about. Might consider a cutting board and cooking utensils.
  15. I second (third?) the Crunchmaster sea salt crackers. Even my fussy non-celiac kids like them.
  16. Thanks for the suggestion! I got in touch with them and they were extremely helpful, and now I have a number to call if I need advice once I'm there. I'm going to bring a few bars, Go Picnics and tuna pouches 'just in case', but I'm looking forward to an easy trip.
  17. Hi - I'll be going to Israel next week for the first time since my dx. I've printed out the travel card and lists of restaurants, but the recent post about the Chicago Rabbinic Council alerting that some quinoa is dusted with barley made me wonder if there are basic assumptions I shouldn't be making. Are there differences in how the basics are treated...
  18. Thanks so much. I'm getting some of these tomorrow! I was asking about the Starbucks peppermint bark that they're selling right now. There is so little there that I can get!
  19. Anyone know if these re gluten-free? So tempted.
  20. That's really interesting. I've seen frozen meals from them. Some aren't labeled gluten-free, despite seeming to be so, based on the ingredients.
  21. Where do you live? Maybe you can offer him a long weekend trip to NYC to kick start his gluten free lifestyle - we have some really good restaurants here that he can eat at (Risotteria? Bistango?), a small store dedicated to gluten-free only, where he can browse for safe foods, and I've recently learned (but haven't tried) an entirely gluten-free Crumbs...
  22. I had one and it was good. Such a nice option for those of us who struggle with breakfast choices.
  23. I don't know if you've tried it yet, but the Schar Deli-Style bread is pretty close to the real thing, and you don't have toast it. I put some hard salami and mustard on it, and it's almost as good. Still working on finding a good challah substitute though!
  24. You're in luck - Yehuda Matzah is really, really, (really) good. My kids prefer it, and they don't have celiac. However, I believe it's not sacramental. So you may want to get one of the other brands for the seder itself, and the one we tried last year was really, really, really bad. But you only need a little bit of it. Don't remember the brand. You...
