  1. Well before my dx, my doctor switched me to the generic levothyroxine. Mine is made by a company called Mylan and, at least 6 months ago, it was on a gluten free list.
  2. I know how hard that can be. The good news is that if it's a trendy brooklyn restaurant, chances are they will have gluten-free options. See if you can get him to tell you the name.
  3. I'm sorry, but I think it will be tough. I'm glad I went before my diagnosis. I would try and bring some pre-packaged food if you can. Do you speak French? Many people there do. I'd advise getting a travel card in french and arabic in advance and that may help. The french celiac association is very helpful (I recently contacted them for a trip to Paris...
  4. There was a recent thread on this, so you can do a search. In Hell's Kitchen area, you are near 5 Napkin Burger, which has a gluten-free bun (I don't bother with it) and the one near me has a dedicated fryer for the delicious french fries. Last time I recommended Nizza but someone said the quality might not be what it was. There's a quick serve place...
  5. Heading into the home stretch! Thanks so much - it's been challenging. Next year, I will plan better.
  6. Anyone observing Passover on here? Are you Ashkenazi and avoiding kitnyot? Last year's Pesach was soon after my diagnosis so I was eating very few things while I healed. This year, I'm running out of non- kitnyot ideas that I can eat while on the road (traveling in rural areas while on school vacations). What are you eating? Thanks.
  7. Can you update? How did it go?
  8. Hi - everything I've been able to search here is really old, and glutenfreedrugs only says 'Dayquil' is safe (but not specific forms). The Vicks website only touts its Nature Fusion line as gluten-free, but I can't find that in any of the stores I've tried, SO.... Does anyone know if Dayquil Cold & Flu LiquiCaps are Gluten Free? Thanks, Nikki
  9. Edy's fruit bars, chips and salsa and (when I'm feeling rich and fat), Glutino white yogurt covered pretzels.
  10. I agree with moving out as soon as you can, and being sneaky. How would she react if you left an article or two about Celiac and Gluten on her pillow for her to read, away from you? That helped with my mother (though I don't live with her).
  11. That's reassuring - The ability (and excuse) to drink wine is my silver lining!
  12. I am really surprised about the cask being sealed with wheat. I count on wine being the only safe thing I can have sometimes when I'm out with friends.
  13. I agree with the pepperoni - haven't seen one with gluten, but always check the labels. There are very good gluten free soy sauces out there. San-J is the one I buy. You just need to be careful when you do get to feeling where you can eat out, to make sure that they don't marinate meats in soy sauce (btdt, spent a week in the bathroom). Good luck...
  14. I think this is a really important point. The only way to do this is cold turkey. If you've quit other things, you're strong enough to quit this. And it's very important that you see your reasons for not following the gluten-free diet strictly, and even for how you're interpreting the help that others here are offering, as part of the classic denial and...
  15. If you're going to be in Times Square, Nizza in 9th ave(?) has a lot of gluten-free options. Also Five Napkin Burger (dedicated fryer for the french fries!). A little further up (50th?) for a very casual quick serve lunch, is Little Beet Cafe is entirely gluten-free. There's an all gluten-free Crumbs cupcake shop on 8th. Risotteria in the village is a...
  16. For dinner parties, unless it's a good friend who I can speak with beforehand (and this doesn't sound like it), I just put some salad on my plate and swish it around with my fork. IF I feel I have to have anything at all. Mostly I just eat beforehand and drink wine. If someone calls me on it, I deflect, or just say that I have some medical issues which...
  17. I found some made by Glutino the other day. Haven't tried them yet, but they look good.
  18. I can't speak to the other symptoms, but I have had the crawling sensation and I believe it was caused by two things, happening in unison and therefore making me think I was going nuts: Celiac - it comes back when I get glutened and, at the same time, 'formication' (with an "m", thank you very much) from perimenopause, which is an uncommon but real peri...
  19. If you're being 100% serious about living gluten free, then I don't see anything wrong in saying you have Celiac. Based on your description, chances are you do, and the tests just aren't sophisticated enough to prove it yet. The only thing that annoys me is when people publicly claim to have Celiac or Gluten Intolerance and then order 'just a small slice...
  20. There was a Johnny Rockets there that made a burger in a lettuce wrap for me. The place was empty so I was able to ask them about the grill, etc. but they seemed to know what they're asking about. Have fun!
  21. Well, I have to tell you a bit of background in order to answer: I was there with a group of eight people, and I'm the only Celiac. My friend had found the restaurant in searching Palm Springs, saw the amazing Gluten-Free menu and thought I would love it for dinner one night and made a reservation. The kids got cranky, wanted to go in the pool, etc...
  22. An update: I met with the cafeteria manager and their nutritionist, who happened to be on site today (our cafeteria, like many, is owned by a large chain). I couldn't be more pleased. As of tomorrow, there will be a separate skillet and spatula waiting for me during the breakfast period, and they will be able to make me fried eggs (which I love!)....
  23. Thanks everyone - I appreciate the suggestions that have been made. As for bringing my own lunch, I do understand where you're all coming from, and perhaps because (I believe) I'm not super-sensitive and (I believe) my Celiac was caught pretty early, I may be a bit naive, but I really believe the only way to make the world change to allow us to fully...
  24. Brainstorming with my cloud friends - My company cafeteria manager is willing to hear me out on easy/low-cost solutions to give me more choices at lunch. They have gluten-free bread, and the employee making the sandwiches will put on new gloves for me and prepare the sandwich isolated on a plate, and not cut it, for example. But the last time she did...
