  1. My doc would recommend eating a bowl of plain Cream of Wheat made with water and nothing else added. Then start tracking your symptoms for up to two days. No bread as you might be reacting to other ingrediants. Do not eat any other wheat products until the 3rd day. Be sure to eat other foods like veggies, fruit and protein. Alas, no wheat for me....
  2. Type Cold Urticaria in the little search box. There are several folks who have it, including me. I do not know if it is related to celiac disease. I suspect allergies in general since I had mine since I was a toddler.
  3. This chocolate mayonnaise cake is to die for.....sub wheat flour with Pamela's gluten-free blend with guar gum (or Xanthan gum). I use my own buttercream chocolate frosting. Gluten eaters adore it! Makes great cupcakes that freeze well. Open Original Shared Link
  4. Welcome! You have every right to be sad, upset, angry and all the other emotions that go along with grieving. The good news is that you will get better and you will get use to gluten-free lifestyle! I was like you. A fitness instuructor and severely anemic which was blamed on heavy periods and a genetic anemia. Read the newbie section under coping...
  5. Hey! some family members just do not get it! My husband is not officially diagnosed and my family was not always supportive of him for the past 13 years. Just plain ignorance! When I got my official diagnosis (showed results to my Mom), they still did not really get it (mostly about cc). Took a major meltdown on my part at a family party. It was ugly...
  6. Whew! You are on the home stretch! Congrats! You can search this forum for tips to kick you off or g\Google the rest. Besides sticking to whole foods (you mentioned that was one of your strategies and it's a good one) etc., I would bake some gluten-free goodies to freeze and keep for parties and other events when everyone else is eating yummy gluten...
  7. Seriously, everyone on this forum (mothers!) has given you lots of good tips because we know you are not feeling well, but let's face it, you are a student. Students are supposed to be constantly learning, researching, testing and challenging theories. Once your exams are completed, I suggest you start becoming educated in your health because only YOU can...
  8. Yes! Rice is fine to eat! You can pursue celiac testing when you get back home, but In the meantime, give up all milk products!!!! Try almond, soy or coconut milk as a substitute. I'd also recommend eating more traditional Chinese foods for breakfast too! You might solve your problems!
  9. Humm....every insurance company and healthcare system is different. Sorry, that you have to wait, but it sounds like you are getting the celiac blood panel now, instead of waiting for the GI. Keep eating gluten until testing is complete like Nicole says, but you can stop drinking and consuming milk products. That should bring you some relief and it will...
  10. Welcome! Here's some more information regarding celiac disease symptoms and testing requirements from the University of Chicago's celiac website: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete! Take care!
  11. Just follow the trail to find the nest. Our ants seem to like concrete cracks as an entrance to their nests. Just takes an on-and-off stream of hot water as they come rushing out with their eggs. To use this ant elimination method, I think you might have had to have been a kid who took great delight poking a stick at the ant nests located next to the orange...
  12. Oh, thanks! I am sailing on RC!
  13. Oh! Correlation between celiac and diabetes is a shared gene. Not all diabetics (type 1) get celiac disease (approx. 10%) and not all celiacs develop type 1 diabetes. Both are autoimmune disorders. That is why so many of us have diabetes type 1, thyroiditis, RA, lupus, etc. which are all autoimmune disorders. Your insurance would be more willing...
  14. What is normal? A normal a1c is between 4 and 5.6%. Remember the Ha1c is just an average of over 3 months and does not track spikes. Spikes cause diabetic complications. The Ha1c is just one of the tests to help diagnose diabetes and it is relatively new (and cheap). You probably need a Oral Glucose Tolerance test. If your insurance will not pay...
  15. If you are not Muslim, you can boil them (this conversation came up just yesterday). It is cheap and relatively safe. Do not burn yourself! Track the nest and pour pots of hot water as the ants rise to the surface. I did this for several weeks (during toddler nap-time) and after a decade -- no ants. The ants are making their way back into my yard this...
  16. It does not sound like celiac/DH, but there are so many manifestations of celiac disease. Have you googled for home made shampoos? Like 1 cup water with 1 Tbl. of baking soda? I would bet you are reacting to commercial hair product ingredients.
  17. I just purchase rice grown in California and never have been glutened by it. I wash my rice three times and steam just the way my Asian friends do. You are the only gluten-free eater in your family, right? Are they still accidentally glutening you?
  18. I would agree with the others. Try probiotics to replenish his intestinal tract with "good" bacteria that were wiped along with the bad. It takes a couple of weeks. Use them whenever anyone in your family takes antibiotics.
  19. Keep a food journal to try to determine what triggers your eczema. It is allergy-related in my family where eggs, nuts and milk protein are the culprit. Triggers asthma in some.
  20. His symptoms could be just related to his allergies. I have cold urticaria too since I was a baby. Swelling and huge itchy hives that would last until I thawed. Horrible looking and itchy in a bathing suit (wetsuit solved that) and I only ski in warm conditions (feet swell so much that I can not remove my boots). I was the only girl allowed to wear pants...
  21. Wow! What a gift, Lisa! I wish your nephew much success and happiness!
  22. Awwww....Welcome ( not that you really wanted to be here, but it is a relief to have an answer)! Check out the newbie section under coping to get you started and more importantly -- to speed healing!
  23. Lisa -- close to the beach, but the winds full of dirt, smoke and "melted countertops" are heading in your direction. Turn off the a/c if it is drawing in outside air. Take care! Winds are going again up in the North OC . Our outside thermometer says 108 degrees (but it is in the sun). I am going outside to fry an egg on the sidewalk!
  24. Good luck on your exams! Print off the testing requirements and show them to your doctor. Any GP/PCP, even your GYN can Oder the tests. You do not have to go to a GI for the blood tests.
