ARCHIVED Shocked And Overwhelmed
cyclinglady replied to slickdaddy0077's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Michael! This forum is so very helpful. My doctor offered nothing as far as support except for a list of gluten-free restaurants in the area. Luckily, my husband has been gluten-free for 12 years, so my transition has been relatively easy. Do as much research as possible (I've been glued to the internet and have made trips to the library).... -
ARCHIVED Need Dr In Chattanooga Tn,atlanta Ga Area
cyclinglady replied to Lacy0713's topic in Doctors
Sorry to hear about your issues. The good news is that you've been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and Hashimoto's. Me too! You didn't say which thyroid med you are on, but I've always been on Armour Thyroid. It doesn't contain any milk products (lactose). I stick it under my tongue to speed up the process, so that I can have that morning coffee or tea...- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Traveling For Business To Seattle/bellevue (Suggestions)--Newly Diagnosed
cyclinglady replied to alannakitty's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
All excellent suggestions! I would just add that if your hotel offers a buffet type breakfast, talk to the people who actually prepares your food. More than likely, they'll accommodate you. Lots of them use prepackaged foods and will even show you the box. Other's will cook your eggs on a separate grille. For business we (both hubby and I are gluten-free...- 10 replies

Ugh! My nice chart imported from Excel didn't take. But I think you'll get the idea. -
ARCHIVED Confused And Need Help With Sons Symptoms
cyclinglady replied to alicia534's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Think of allergies as a "fire". You need to calm down that fire and maybe, if your'e lucky, extinguish it. I had I gG testing done years ago. Tested high for five foods, moderately for many others. First thing is to eliminate completely all those items that were on the list. Then divide up a list of foods that he can eat and divide them into four days... -
Food allergies or intolerances? They can develop at any time. I"d start with the egg first. Don't forget that some allergies are delayed (up to 48 hours). On the other hand, it could be a parasite or bacterial imbalance of the gut. Finally, what are the side effects for each of your meds?

Wow! Everyone has terrific advice and tips! I'd first focus on you and feeling better. Next, join groups. I became a big sister when I was your age and worked with the adult literacy program. My big dating advice? I suggest picnics. I kid you not! I prepared the food, had a cute basket with linens and all. My dates and I would go to a nice public...

Google some sites on Yeast/Candida. You'll find that birth control pills/implants can contribute to candida or yeast problems. I could not tolerate birth control pills because I was getting vaginal yeast infections constantly (one year = 10 infections). This was before there were any OTC vaginal meds and I had to see a doctor for relief. My GYN always...

ARCHIVED Both Kids With Celiacs
cyclinglady replied to kkcg2736's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree about the Newbie 101 thread! My celiac disease was symptom free other than having thryoiditis and anemia. No intestinal issues at all until I glutened out prior to my getting scoped. My husband has been gluten-free for 12 years, so with my recent diagnosis, I made my house as gluten-free as possible! It's much easier on all of us (a 12 yr. old... -
Since both my husband and I have celiac disease, I have made my house gluten-free with the exception of a few cereal bars, cereal and cookies I purchase for my daughter as a treat. I even purchased PB & J frozen sandwiches so I don't have to buy bread and it's a fast lunch on those early mornings she needs to be at school early. She likes all the...

I'm not in the medical field and can only speak for the thryoid hormone replacement drug (synthryoid). I'm in the same place as you. Newly diagnosed. My thyroid has been swinging back and forth from hyper to hypo this past year (was steadily hypo since '97). I think developing celiac disease might have caused the swinging or maybe it's just perimenopause...

I haven't read about a link to celiac disease, but I suppose it's possible with autoimmune disorder. Are you on hormonal contraceptives? Have you taken multiple rounds of antibiotics in the last two years or are you diabetic? All three of these can cause chronic thrush. You may need to take a systemic anti-fungal like Diflucan (fluconazole) while eliminating...

I'm a cyclist/runner. Are you sure you didn't get stung by anything? I can't tell you how many "bugs" I've ingested on a ride! I'm allergic to mold and if the "Santa Ana" winds are going, I usually get a reaction (though not severe!) Anyway, if not, something you ate could have prompted the allergic reaction. I took Advil and aspirin moderately (never...

Kristen, Thanks for your words of inspiration. Like you, I only had Iron deficiency when I went for a colon "well-check". I had been diagnosed some 15 years earlier with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and that has been acting up for the past year (swinging hyper to hypo). I never would have guessed celiac disease! My husband has been gluten-free for...

My mother-in-law had those same symptoms. She had Multiple Sclerosis. Since her son (my husband) has a either celiac disease or an intolerance (he's been gluten-free for 12 years), I think that she had celiac disease too. She had problems with her vision at the very first. Itchiness? Do you have a rash? She never did, but just had the sensation of itchiness...

ARCHIVED Anti-Candida Diet - Seeds Vs. Grains
cyclinglady replied to Ray21's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you have candida issues, you probably need some serious systemic prescription strength anti-fungals (e.g. Diflucan). The candida diet requires that you eliminate or minimize sugars/starches and that includes even fruit. All meats/fish must be fresh and not processed. You should be eating veggies morning, noon and night! I was able to stick to this... -
ARCHIVED Long Time Gluten Free Still Having Pain
cyclinglady replied to ArriettyPC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a strong family history of non-functioning gallbladders. No stones (they'd show up on an MRI or Ultrasound), just lower abdominal pain (not near my gallbladder). The pain was severe enough for me to pass out! A HIDA scan confirmed the diagnosis and surgery cured the problem (gallbladder was infected/rotting) by then. I've read there's a strong correlation... -

ARCHIVED I Think I May Have Kind Of Had An Epiphany...
cyclinglady replied to josh052980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's been a long time since I had Candida issues (20 years). I had been on antibiotics for Rosecea for two years (Dermatologist prescribed). (Can you believe they did that back then?) It completely messed up my digestive system. Bad bacteria and fungus took over the good bacteria (all three should be in balance). I developed a "leaky gut", food allergies... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread - Best Deals
cyclinglady replied to GottaSki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I keep all my gluten-free bread in my big freezer (one of the best investments I've ever made!). If it's not on sale, i ask the retailer (Sprout's in CA) for a case of the bread and I get a 15% discount. I usually have to wait a few days. We prefer Udi's or Rudi's. I've always been a baker, making all my own bread, etc., but bought gluten-free bread... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Coping With This
cyclinglady replied to durrsakja's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Fortunately, my husband has been gluten-free for over 12 years so adapting has been relatively easy. I also have allergies to nuts, eggs, milk, garlic and mushrooms. I've had these allergies for over 15 years, but like a fire, they have diminished or calmed down. Back then, I spent about 6 months on a... -
ARCHIVED Expired gluten-free Flour?
cyclinglady replied to TwilightTime's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Store your flour mixes in the freezer and they'll last for years provided baking powder has not been added (e.g. a biscuit/pancake mix). Your current flour is still probably good as long as it was stored in a relatively cool dry place. -
ARCHIVED 8 Months In And No Improvements
cyclinglady replied to Panda123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Like you, I was diagnosed via endoscopy just two weeks ago. Symptoms? Only iron deficiency anemia (low ferritin), Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Alpha Thalassemia which is another anemia that's genetic (tiny red blood cells). So, even as my iron levels improve by adhering to the gluten-free diet, my hemoglobin will always remain low and additional iron won...
