  1. I thought I should add the Canadian McDonalds info here. It seems in Canada there is no mention of wheat in the fries or hashbrowns. This info was updated March 13th, 2009 Open Original Shared Link French Fries: Potatoes, canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, safflower oil, natural flavour (vegetable source), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate...
  2. This is a very helpful thread. After years of being gluten-free, I seem to have developed some intolerances too. Luckily they are not as severe as a gluten reaction. But they are annoying and require immodium! I've possibly narrowed it down to soy or xanthan. It's such a pain. I was feeling good for years and this just sucks. Anyways as usual, people are...
  3. I think that xanthan gum produces better results in baked goods. It costs a little more, but you use very little in baking so it's not too bad pricewise.
  4. I take back what I said, that Fry's cocoa in the prairies is gluten-free. Okay the small cans are gluten-free. The large cans sold at Costco say right on the label, "may contain wheat."
  5. That's pretty cool. I got the exact same response and I am in Canada. I love their yogurts.
  6. Like the others said, it will come with time. It is a slow process and I think your body has to adjust to the "poison" removal and to absorbing foods properly as it should be. I was very sick for a long time and had difficulty with fitness. After being gluten-free, my fitness improved greatly. I have way more endurance than before. I also lift weights and...
  7. Safeway gluten-free stuff isn't cheap here and rarely is it on sale. But I'm used to Save-On Foods so I'm biased. I recently moved back down to southern Alberta and so no more Save-On for me! I guess I'll have to suck it up and go to Sobeys and Safeway again. It's a good thing they have sales where you are.
  8. I guess the Fry's cocoa made in the prairies is fine. I too, have never seen a warning on a can. I've been using Fry's for as long as I can remember. I'm sure glad they are safe here! Thanks for the info.
  9. It really does suck and you are right xantham is in so many products. This is really a difficult disease/intolerance. I thought years ago that tapioca was causing me problems. Now I have to rethink everything. I need to go buy some guar gum and start baking again. I really hope xantham is the problem too. I getting a little tired of being sick again!
  10. Xanthum gum. Very interesting. Maybe that is the culprit for me. I haven't had problems in years, but for the past few months somethimg is very wrong. I do a lot of baking with xanthum being the common ingredient.
  11. This is a great thread. I have become super sensitive lately and it is driving me crazy. I have switched my flour brand. But, I'm now I thimk I'm having problems with the other brand. I haven't been on here for awhile but I'm back and it's great to see people supporting each other. I doubt that we all react to the exact same things, but hey it's great to...
  12. The only soy milk that I know is gluten-free is SILK. Sorry, not too helpful.
  13. They use separate pitchers for soy or milk in Canada too. I am very sensitive to gluten and I have never been sick from one of their soy latte's either.
  14. I buy pure vanilla, not the fake stuff. Yes it is a little bit more expensive, but there are no artificial flavours. I use Western Family brand for pure vanilla. I'm out west so I'm not sure if this brand is in the east, but it is an Overwaitea store brand. I tend to stay away from artificial flavours if I can. I just don't trust them. I would suggest...
  15. SILK is definitely gluten-free. I have contacted them many times to make sure.
  16. McCormick spices (in the small glass jars) Tinkyada Kinnikinnick Enjoy Life Glutino I'll add to this when I think of some more... Also, I am very sensitive!
  17. My blood work tested negative both times I was tested. So, I was not sent for an endo test. I was so fed up and very sick for such a long time, that going gluten-free was a last choice for me and I had no expectations since nothing else had worked. I had a positive dietary response within the first month of being gluten-free. I saw my GP at that point and...
  18. Dies anyone have any new info on the gluten-free status of Bernard Callebaut chocolates in Canada, specifically in Alberta? If not, I'll contact them myself. Thanks in advance
  19. I haven't been on this forum in ages. Many life changes ...anyways. Has anyone had issues with the flour (sorghum, amaranth, garfava, potato starch, xanthum, etc.) from Planet Organic (specifically Calgary)? I know they have a quality control statement on the back of the packages stating their segregation practices. I have used their various flours for...
  20. I love this topic! My cat is allergic to chicken so I have been reading and researching pet food ingredients for almost a decade. It's pretty sad what they put in mainstream pet food and human food for that matter. I have many questions for Doctor J, but I'll refrain for now.
  21. Yes Kinninnick is gluten-free and wf and many items are also cf. They are very strict; their staff cannot bring gluteney food for their lunches or snacks. No gluten enters the building.
  22. The south side Sicilian Pasta Kitchen has gluten-free pasta for an additional price of course. Only their tomato sauces are gluten-free. Their white/cream sauces are not gluten-free. Many of their appetizers are also gluten-free. They also have very knowledgeable servers. I've talked to the manager and they have separate pans/pots/utensils for the gluten...
  23. I make my hot cocoa exactly the same way. Yummy
  24. Hey everyone, Our 10th anniversary is just around the corner and I can't think of anything interesting to do. So bring on the ideas, unique, fun, anything and everything to get my brain thinking faster. Thanks
