    ARCHIVED Tapioca?

Yes, I react with cramping, pain and violent D when I eat tapioca. It took me a while to figure it out. I hate not being able to eat tapioca because it is in all pre-made breads and is a great starch for baking.
  3. Wow, that recipe looks great. I'll try to find some time to bake it.
  4. Me too! I didn't know I could have the dressing though. Next time my salad will be dressed. LOL
  5. Yes, my hair was thinning rapidly before I removed gluten from my diet. My hair has thickened a lot. It was a slow process, but I was glad to notice that it had improved over the first year on the diet.
  6. Smirnoff Ice in the USA is a malted beverage whereas in Canada it is not. So, in Canada it is gluten-free, but in the USA it is not gluten-free.
  7. They're all nice Catholic men. On the Galapagos ships you may want to watch out because the crew are known to be overly friendly. I didn't have any problems, but I'm married and kept my wedding ring visible.
  8. I love Ecuador! Quito is a great city to see. We had a tour of it and it really is very populated. Also, the coffee is great in Ecuador. "Leche" or "con leche" with or without milk. However, when I was there I was still eating gluten. I had no problem with not eating red meat though. They offered chicken, veg/soy or fish. There are some comparatively...
  9. This may be somewhat helpful. Many of the packaged gluten-free items that I buy here are made in Israel. So, I would think that you shouldn't have too hard a time finding gluten-free products over there. Also, I have never got sick from any of them.
  10. I've heard the four day intolerance rule before. It's funny though, I eat the same homemade bread daily for five days with the same pb & j. I try to vary everything else I eat. I haven't had any other new intolerances yet. Oh it's lots of fun listening to your body. I think the previous poster is right, celiacs are very in-tune with their bodies...
  11. Yes, I hope they are not permanent. I was casein intolerant for the first year of being gluten-free. I have a science thinking mind and so I like to ask why. LOL
  12. I know there is a thread on tapioca intolerance. This is my new intolerance. I am curious as to why we seem to get new food intolerances. It's very annoying because we are already inconvenienced enough having to eat gluten-free. Not that I should be complaining since I feel great. But I just want to know why these things keep happening to us.
  13. I don't see why you couldn't substitute soy or rice milk and dairy-free butter. I used to substitute dairy-free ingredients all the time when I had some past issues with dairy.
  14. Thanks for sharing the recipe. It sounds delicious.
  15. I wish I could have had a diagnosis. But by the end of one month of being gluten-free, I felt so good and I saw my doctor. She was amazed with the positive health-related results and said if I had the endoscopy and the results come back negative, she wouldn't suggest that I eat gluten again anyways. Sometimes I feel like I'm lying to people when I...
  16. I'm not sure for gluten-free breads, but I do know some gluten bakers that like their Sunbeam.
  17. I'm just curious but why don't you like sorghum or flax? I love sorghum in my baked goods.
  18. I put mine in the oven to rise. I heat it up just a little bit first.
  19. That recipe sounds great. If it wasn't so hot here, I'd turn my oven on and make a batch.
  20. Actually, my cat is allergic to chicken. It is very difficult to find food for him. He's tried every chicken-free food I can find. They put venison in a lot of the non-chicken foods.
  21. I think there are about six of us from Alberta. A few from the Edmonton, central area and a few from the Calgary area.
  22. I took malarone in the past, but I didn't realize I was gluten intolerant at the time. Everyone I was with took the other options and they had some issues, not celiac related. I loved malarone, so if you can get the starch information from the manufacturer hopefully, you'll get some insight. That's pretty bad that they don't know their starch source.
  23. I realize that not many people have this, but I am tapioca intolerant. I was fine for two years of gluten-free and eating tapioca and then one day, instant and repetitive diarrhea. So, I tried tapioca many times to figure out/make sure that it was the culprit. At first I thought it was dairy, but it wasn't. It's sad because I can't have very many Kinnikinnick...
  24. You could replace wheat germ with rice bran.
