  1. After going gluten-free, I went from having a ravenous constant appetite to no appetite at all. I try to make things that have most of the food groups, so give more nutrition per bite, ya know? One of my standbys is Paula Deen's Tuna Burgers from Food Network. They've got celery and onion in them. I just call that good enough for a veggie. I just...
  2. I agree.. The only thing that irks me anymore is the cross contamination. So that would be SOOO cool. Imagine going out to dinner and just being able to pick the croutons off the salad, or just not eat the bread that's on the plate. Imagine just being able to order the food without watching the server's eyes glaze over when you're trying to explain...
  3. Ooooo.... This is so cool. Thanks!
  4. Just wanting to verify something. When you say "sans bread", you mean sans as in the french meaning without bread , right? Sans isn't a type or brand of bread is it? The only reason I'm asking is that quite a few people run into uninformed healthfood store workers and nutritionists (!!!) who will tell them that grains like spelt, kamut and even sprouted...
  5. Yea, you're right. Thanks for the perspective. I'm only about 20% freaked now. And from what my dad's doctors said, stomach cancer is considered a rare cancer. So... I'm just going to take stomach issues seriously. So many people just start popping Tums or drinking Pepto and don't bother to go to the doctor when it doesn't clear up quickly...
  6. Thanks guys. This is such a great board that I tend to forget about hastypasty. Nancy
  7. I just got my son's genetic test results today and was doing a websearch on HLA-DQB1*0301 (DQ3). I came across this article on Medscape from 2002. It's really short, so I'll copy and paste it, then provide the link. ////////////////////////////////////////// Association of HLA-DQB1*0301 and HLA-DQB1*0602 with different subtypes of gastric cancer...
  8. My son has one copy of DQ1 (from me), as well as a copy of DQ3. I know the specific symptoms that tend to go along with DQ1, but I don't know anything about DQ3. Can anyone fill me in? Nancy
  9. I know this is a couple weeks old, but I just saw this. How exciting!!! I loved getting my body back after going gluten free. Right now, I'm right smack dab in the middle of dealing with a thrown out back (structural, not gluten). I can't WAIT to get back to being able to be active again. I love hearing about others who have gotten their...
  10. My MIL is from Germany, with family and friends still there. She says that over there they don't drink milk. They put cream in their coffee, and cook with it, and use other dairy products of course, but they would never just drink a glass of milk. Kids don't drink milk after their weaned. They drink weak tea. Nancy

I agree with Jillian. The thing is that his reaction is very common with celiac for some odd reason. Some sig others do a 180 and go to three stores to look for Dora Cereal (that is SO sweet...), and some never come around. Just keep your head up. Nancy
  15. YAY! You finally got a doctor to take you SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! I'm SO glad your doctor treated you like a patient and not a hypochondriac. {{{HUGS}}} Keep us posted on everything. Nancy
  16. Hey! My husband has low testosterone. He's on Androderm patches and not gluten-free. I suspect he might be either celiac or gluten-intolerant though. When he goes on the Atkins diet (gluten-free) occasionally, he does feel better. He just isn't open to exploring the possibility of celiac. The thing that makes me wonder if you might be on to something...
  17. Awesome! Awareness is growing, slowly but surely! Nancy
  18. I would love it if one of these products would just simply say that their product may help to ease the symptoms of being glutened. Easing the symptoms I could believe as a possibility. This quote from that site puts the whole product research and development process into perspective though: "The main treatment for gluten or casein intolerance has...
  19. Good luck with your appt. Let us know what happens. Fingers crossed for you. Nancy

First of all, don't do the endoscopy. It will come out negative just because you've been gluten-free for too long now. And then he'll have that to point to and hold over your head. The thing is that this may be the first issue in a long line of issues that you'd go through in your life together. Is he going to be supportive when you get an injury...
  21. This was the EXACT thing that led me to finding out about celiac. I could barely even leave the house it was so bad. I mean, I couldn't even go to church. It seemed like every time I moved I had really smelly gas. So I know exactly what you mean about the walking and having gas with just about every step. It was the most horrible, humiliating thing...
  22. Open Original Shared Link They have three categories; Decadent Dessert, Traditional Sweet and Something Savory. They are accepting entrys until August 15th. The three winners each get a choice of a stand mixer or a $200 gift certificate to a kitchen store. This sounds like so much fun. I've got a couple old family recipes that I've thought would...
  23. Ya know, my husband asked me about this when we were watching something about Hurricane Katrina. I told him that in my case (gluten intolerant, not celiac) that in dire, desperate circumstances, if there was no other choice, I could eat gluten. BUT, I probably wouldn't be able to walk very far, have TONS of "digestive disturbances" AND I'd be a real mood...
  24. Yep. I'm the same way. I rarely get the digestive issues anymore when I'm glutened. It's the mood swings, anxiety attacks, nightmares, etc that keep me on the straight and narrow when it comes to staying gluten-free. I've been wondering why gluten does that to a lot of us too. I think Chelse's idea that our bodies are using so much energy fighting...
  25. It's such a relief to figure it out isn't it? I'm glad you found us here! Nancy
