There's a new magazine called "For Me" that I picked up the other day. In the June issue (Reese Witherspoon on the cover) on page 55, there is a short article, about 3/4 page, entitled "IBS or Celiac?". It's a pretty good article. My only issue with it is it didn't go into as many symptoms as I would have liked, but with hundreds of symptoms, there...

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Nantzie replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just opened this topic today. After seeing that it is now 33 pages, I figured there are a lot of interesting things going on, so I read the last page. I was stunned to read that Cal Organics (Grimway) has the b@lls to spray their produce with MSG. That's disgusting. I'm in Sacramento, so we get our produce from the Central Valley too. Now that... -
ARCHIVED Soy Pasta First Time?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, if you're just trying to find gluten-free pasta, you can't beat Tinkyada. It's very close to real pasta. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Please Recommend "gluten Free Bread"?
Nantzie replied to betsyboo01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh! You've GOT to try Whole Food Market's Sun-Dried Tomato Garlic Bread. Toasted with butter or margarine. It's WONDERFUL! They sell it in the freezer section. Even my father-in-law, who makes his OWN bread and has been pretty snitty lately, said it was okay, but then went back for two other pieces. Nancy -
Nope. It's an OR, with a minimum search word of four characters. It's the one irritating thing on an otherwise great board. Sometimes I do get some luck just doing a google or yahoo search and including glutenfreeforum in the search string. It won't get you everything, but if you're looking for a specific answer to a question, it can be helpful...

Sounds like cubital tunnel syndrome, which involves the pinky and ring finger, and the side of the hand. A lot of the time the ring finger is numb just on the side closest to the pinky. Exact same thing as carpal tunnel syndrome, except it's a different nerve. Carpal tunnel would cause numbness in the thumb, first, middle, and sometimes half of the ring...

Since you asked about alternative treatments, I did NAET years ago, when I was getting really bad springtime and fall allergies every year. I wasn't having food issues at the time though. The NAET really did help my hayfever. I live in an area where just about everyone gets allergies, and I'm rarely bothered by anything anymore. I don't think I've taken...

Yea, I'm guessing that he wasn't 100% on the diet, which we all know might as well be nothing. So if he was having a beer here and there, or just eating the meat and cheese out of an already-made sandwich, he was probably getting a lot of damage. You have to be really strong about insisting on what's required. If your friends don't get it, or hassle you...

ARCHIVED Traveling To Sacramento
Nantzie replied to deeshie10's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm in the Sacramento area. I'm new to this too, so don't eat out much yet, but I'll give you what information I have. The Hilton is in the Arden area, so there's a Mall right down the street (Arden Faire Mall) on the other side of the freeway. Whole Foods is also on Arden Way, on the corner of Arden and Eastern. It's about 5 miles from... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Alcat Or ?
Nantzie replied to cathzozo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I vote for Enterolab. I just got the genetic test from them, and it answered so many questions for me. I've got DQ1 which isn't recognized as a celiac gene in the classic sense, but if you look at my signature, you can see how much gluten effects me. If you get the whole panel, you've got a lot of questions answered. I'm not sure about the Lame... -
A couple weeks ago I got glutened. At the bottom of our stairway, we have a set of four lightswitches. The second one in is the one to turn on the light in our family room. So I went to go turn the light on. And it wasn't going on, but our hallway light was. I must have sat there messing with those switches for five minutes. The hallway light, the...

As long as you don't make it a 15-minutes of fame, I get to be on TV thing, I'm sure she wouldn't mind at all. I bet they're always looking for new and interesting stories to do.

ARCHIVED I Think My Wife Was Glutened
Nantzie replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, sounds like it. I have heard here that with items that are processed in the same facility as wheat, it's trial and error. After all, your own kitchen is probably "a facility that also processes wheat". It all depends on how vigilant the company is at completely cleaning the manufacturing lines, how far away the nearest wheat containing items are... -

Thai Kitchen has a line called Noodle Cart, which is a life-saver for me. It's rice noodles and thai flavored sauces. It comes with a plastic container with a vented lid, as well as a fork. You put the noodles in the container with some boiling water, close the lid. Wait 5 minutes and pour the water out through the vent holes. Then mix the oil and sauce... -
ARCHIVED Fake Paper Cuts
Nantzie replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get this too. And I only get it when I'm glutened by wheat-sourced vodka. I tripled checked and challenged this a few times because you're not supposed to be effected by vodka, even if it's wheat sourced, but that's definitely what it was for me. I didn't get any other symptoms of glutening, but just the skin on my knuckles. And it takes a month for... -

ARCHIVED The End Of The Road
Nantzie replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, it's been a rough road, but I'm doing okay. I think having cancer in your family is just hard, especially when you're having problems related to the type of cancer; like colon cancer in your family. It always feels like it's lurking out there. As far as the anxiety not improving after going gluten-free, I'd guess that either your body is... -
ARCHIVED The End Of The Road
Nantzie replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lister - First of all, big {{{HUGS}}} to you. Second... DON'T LEAVE. Having negative test results doesn't prove that you don't have gluten intolerance. I don't have celiac. All my tests, including my biopsy came back normal. But just read my signature and you can see how badly gluten effects me. It may be that you just have to take the leap... -
ARCHIVED Does This Happen To Anyone Else?
Nantzie replied to L.A.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That horrible gas was my most life-limiting symptom before I figured everything out. I never threw up from it, but it was too awful and constant to even think about going anywhere. I do still get it if I get glutened too. -
ARCHIVED Products I Have To Use For Work
Nantzie replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I remember the paper towel thing on this forum from a few months ago. It was the glue that holds the paper towels on the cardboard roll that has the gluten in it. I've been assuming that all paper towel glue is the same, so use the last part of the roll for non-kitchen stuff. If it's the commercial folded stacks of paper towels that aren't on a roll... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast, gluten-free, Low Carb, High Protein, Ideas Needed
Nantzie replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We don't eat traditional breakfasts around here. My kids don't have any dietary restrictions, but my daughter is very picky. She doesn't like eggs. And she doesn't like any type of breakfast breads, cereals or pastries; no cereals or granola, no pancakes, waffles, donuts, french toast, poptarts, etc. So you can imagine "breakfast" went out the window... -
ARCHIVED For All Of You Who Are In Pain
Nantzie replied to aikiducky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you, thank you, thank you. ((((HUGS))) You've got me crying. Although my pain ended up being completely cleared up by going gluten-free, the years of not being able to do the simplest things are still painful to think about. I'm so incredibly grateful that my future can include things like walking, running, playing with my kids, martial arts... -
ARCHIVED Helpfull Tips On How To Remember What Is And Isn't gluten-free, Please!
Nantzie replied to Sandyo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a Blackberry that I got really cheap - refurbished. It really helps to have it on hand all the time. I always know where my phone is, so I'm not searching through a bunch of papers. I don't have the big lists on there. Just things I've researched that are gluten-free that I want to buy, and the not-so-obvious forbidden ingredients. I also keep... -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
Nantzie replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The most important thing I learned here is to be strong in the face of ridicule, disbelief and bullying. It's amazing how awful friends and family can be when you're trying to take your health into your own hands. I know my story isn't unique on this board. It just still astounds me how US not eating gluten can possibly be so threatening to the people... -
