ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Acrylamides made the news a lot in the late 90s. They are a toxic (in the long term) substance that accumulates on certain foods fried at high temperatures. We used polyacrylamides in a lab that I worked in a lot, pretty nasty stuff. I don't know much more than that. -
I emailed the site about it too, so maybe they will update their article.

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
At least they gave you all a method for how the FF are 'de-glutened' - I just got that it was the "processing". And, its interesting that they told me it was the oil, not the boulion (sp?) as someone else mentioned. If there are some that are still planning on calling, please ask how they test for gluten (since someone was already told that they do test... -
Here's a link to an article from today that cites the # of celiacs in the US incorrectly. Nice. Although its great to get info out there, it is bad journalism to publish incorrect stuff. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes, please you all, call or email them and maybe we can figure out what's up. The guy I spoke with said 'processing' rid the ingrediant of wheat and dairy, but he did not specify what he meant. If you all can't get answers, I will try again myself. -

I have no idea. That's why I want the ingrediant tested..... -

Yes, Ron told me too that this was the formula used this whole time, this potentially wheat-containing ingrediant is not new. -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Just called them and now I am confused He (Ron) said that they just got an internal memo and have removed wheat as an ingrediant on the list for FF. The deal is that the oil used (he didn't mention flavorings) with the FF contained remnants of dairy and wheat. But, he told me that the suppliers believe that the wheat and dairy proteins are removed... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?

I hate to be so predictably American here, but can some sue their asses if they really have had wheat all along, though they are listed as gluten-free? I guess you would have to show some sort of direct harm, which would be very difficult, but I always have wondered about how we know what they (companies) are telling us is actually the truth? Scary....... -
ARCHIVED Neutrogena Products
bluelotus replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the list. What did you hear from Dove, did they say something generic, like there are no gluten-free guarentees? Supposedly, they will list out their gluten sources, and I don't believe that their products have made me sick....guess you can never be sure though. I would be interested in their response to you. -
ARCHIVED Oral B Toothpaste Not Safe
bluelotus replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They just said that because they do use wheat in some products, they couldn't guarentee that any were gluten free. Take that for what its worth. I still use their acne scrub on my chest (gross sorry, but I am prone to break outs there) - its not on my face, so I am not worried about it getting in my mouth with either showering, sweating, whatever. -

Wo-hoo, revolution, I love it!! I am always up for some excitement and a break up of the monotony! Seriously though, great potential questions from Carrie. I just hope we all don't end up talking to the same poor customer service rep when really its the higher-ups that have to answer for this. -

That would be so messed up if they had wheat in them this whole time. I stopped eating out and limit my processed food consumption b/c I was still getting sick and figured those would be good to eliminate, just in case. Now, I think I have even less trust in the food industry (if that's possible)......Grrrrrr. How many of you all want to call them tomorrow... -

Got that same line from St. Ives myself. Its very disappointing. Good luck with your searches and please post any other interesting info -
I am in Midtown ATL with celiac. I know there are others here too, some are in Marietta. Welcome. Check with some of the others, but there is a local support group too (I've been very bad and haven't gone, but would like to at some point myself).

Just download the pdf for you all that couldn't read it (I couldn't get the wheat to come up either, but its in the pdf) -
Thanks, Thomas. I'll give them a call this coming week sometime! Can't wait to see if they can help me out.

ARCHIVED Gluten And Paper Towels/plates
bluelotus replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, whoever researches the dentist stuff, please post a new topic that would be easily recognized. Last time I went, no cavities, but had them use a baking soda and water only scrub on me instead of paste and no rinse. They were fine doing it, but were a bit taken aback when I first told them about my celiac disease. -
My Mom's knees do the same thing, used to embarass me to no end when I was in middle and high school too......Teenagers

Someone that has had a full panel of celiac blood tests can give you a list, there are maybe 4 tests? A good doctor should know what tests to give. You will need to see a primary care physician - they can do the blood work required (I am not sure what blood test you had before - for anemia maybe?), then get a recommendation from them to see an allergist...

Interesting Pyroluria symptom list, I think I answered yes to each one. Great.....one more thing to worry about. So, not sure what kind of knee problem we're talking about here - do most people's crack? Mine do occasionally when I squat, but I was talking about a crunching noise, most noticeable when I go up the stairs, and it is not painful.

ARCHIVED Gluten And Paper Towels/plates
bluelotus replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Interesting....I always cover my food with paper towels in the microwave and have gotten sick recently from an unknown source....maybe this is the culprit. I will start using wax paper instead, I think. -
For blood tests, ask someone else in the panel as to the entire work up, I know there are several tests, including a gene test if you want one. I had the tissuetransglutaminase TtG IgA test, which is one of the more accurate ones (there is also an IgG test too that you normally get with the Ttg IgA, but my doc drew the blood wrong and that test was never...
