I have this problem too - and I am only 24. My knees don't hurt per se, unless I've been glutened (joint pain is one symtpom for me). Its such a gross noise though, my mom has it too. A doc told her that it was calcium deposits (she developed the crunching knee noise after she became pregnant with me). My bone density test was normal. I work out every...

ARCHIVED Sushi At Home
bluelotus replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Its Hime brand Powdered sushi wasabi, distributed by JFC International Inc in San Francisco. Here's there email response (What confused me was the 'ko' on the end of the name, I wasn't sure that they were talking about what I was talking about, maybe I should write again just to be safe). Thank you for your recent email inquiring about wasabi powder... -
ARCHIVED Help!
bluelotus replied to elainefrance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Try some websites - like Enjoy Life (make all sorts of bread type goodies, including cookies), Glutino, Ener-G, Bob's Red Mill (make some gluten-free flours), Pamela's (I have never tried to find her website, but she makes very yummy mixes), the Gluten Free Pantry, etc. This might be an easier way for you all to get these products. -
Hi again, The barley malt in your crackers has gluten, yes (as well as all of the wheat ingrediants). Are you trying to go 100% gluten-free or just testing yourself with various ingrediants? My acne (and other symptoms, I have celiac disease) improved after going 100% gluten-free. You might want to see a doctor first though to get any sort of blood...

ARCHIVED What Are Your Thoughts On.....
bluelotus replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's a tough one....In an ideal world, I wouldn't eat any products like that, but that's not realistic either. Until some essential products are made in wheat free facilities, I try it and see what my body thinks. -

bluelotus replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use a wasabi powder....very easy to use, just add water to make it a paste. But, I will have to check my email - when I asked them if they were gluten-free, I got some weird response.....Will let you know. I stopped using them anyway b/c that was around the time when I was sick and couldn't find the source. I since found the source but never added the... -
There was an article about a year ago that my mom found for me on MSNBC's website about how milk can cause acne. I know that dairy and gluten cause acne for me - it may be a form of an immune system response, as you suggested. I never had luck with any acne treatments my docs prescribed (duh, likely b/c I was still eating gluten), but I am on Proactiv now...

ARCHIVED Wedding Planning - Any Suggestions?
bluelotus replied to teebs in WV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats to all the brides. I got married after being dx'd. We eloped, but had a reception several months later b/c our families wanted one. My mother and I were the only celiacs there, so I just ordered food and cake for everyone else and made a dinner and dessert for my mom and myself (why, you ask, didn't my mom cook for me on one of the more stressful... -
i was wondering myself about purell. instead, i'm kind of dorky and carry my own little soap box around with a bar of irish spring (I got a list from the parent company of gluten-free products, and that brand was on there).

Thanks, Gabby and Rachel. Gabby, I haven't contacted Ian's, but Silk does list their smoothies as gluten-free on their website. Ian's gluten-free fish sticks label themselves as gluten-free on the package. Then again, I am very sensitive to CC, so maybe both or one of the two companies has CC problems. I've got tons going on this week, but maybe I can...

Just in case - here's what I've had in the past day that might be risky b.c I have them less often (though don't recall getting sick) - Silk soymilk raspberry smoothie, Ian's gluten free fish sticks. Also have had 'homemade' gluten-free bread from a Gluten-free pantry mix to go with my homemade soup. I am not suggesting that any of these brands are the...

Thanks for the sympathy.... I would guess its CC, everything I ate was typical. I hate being glutened...feels like little needles in my tummy. Best wishes to all others that are sick out there tonight.

Hi all, I was doing fairly well, but got glutened somewhere. It sucks, my tummy hurts and had all the normal celiac disease symptoms. I really hate this stupid disease. Sorry, just wanted to moan to someone.........oh....my tummy.

ARCHIVED How Do I Change My User Name?
bluelotus replied to Lollie's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I changed my name a couple months ago. Although it wasn't my name, it referenced something that I do professonially that was somewhat unique, and considering that I talk about this site with fam, I decided to change the name. I felt I couldn't be as honest in my answers if I felt my fam might be watching.... Then again, who knows, my fam may not have... -
I wash my hands before preping my food and before eating. I also ask my husband to do the same if he's cooking that night (and of course, making sure that the soap is gluten-free). I haven't seen literature on this, but it makes sense to me. Then again, I haven't seen much literature referencing possible risks from toothpaste, lipstick, mouthwash, kissing...

ARCHIVED Candy And Gum Question.
bluelotus replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mango, thanks for the tip on Glee gum. BTW - I haven't seen Red #40 referenced as having gluten in it, though I know some artifical colors might use gluten as binders (this according the celiac.com's forbidden list). -
ARCHIVED Candy And Gum Question.

I didn't know red #40 had gluten (thank goodness I don't eat many processed foods.) - I'll have to look into that. Scary. -

Tamarind Tree makes awesome indian food (boxed, you just stick the containers in boiling water or in hot water from the microwave). I found this at Publix (as well as Whole Foods/Harry's). -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Brand Organic Trail Mix
bluelotus replied to Merika's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wasn't aware that they marked any as being gluten-free on the bottle, other than mentioning sauces are gluten-free on their specialty diet lists (you can find the lists online). I got sick from a 365 marinara sauce that looked fine based on ingrediants. Only a couple of their sauces are on their gluten-free list (I hadn't checked the list when I bought... -
ARCHIVED Smart Balance Products
bluelotus replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never noticed a soy butter. Does it have casein by any chance? I used to use their products all the time before I cut out dairy and casein. Their stuff is so tasty. Not sure which I can't tolerate, but maybe their soy butter would be a good testing tool.
