  1. Yes, very familiar with the thread. Depressing isn't it? Gluten free should mean zero gluten.... end of story. I have been having the same contamination problem, I'd hate to speak for Rachel, but based on her recent stories, it appears that she has too. It sucks. I think I will have to start canning my own veggies and all that jazz. But who has the...
  2. Yes, very true. But don't tell anybody about me being here....shhhhh!!
  3. Ugh...happy that the info is getting out there, but I never want to be considered mainstream.....not that kinda girl
  4. I lost about 7 lbs but I have since gained it back. I think that some of our alternatives are pretty high cal., so it may be more difficult than you think depending on your current diet. I would love to lose 10-15 lbs, but have no idea how - I feel bad enough for myself now with how little I can eat, I can't imagine being on a diet And, I work out...
  5. I called them about a year ago regarding their biotin. That is gluten-free, but the information is also a year old. I now use a gluten-free vitamin I found at a health food store.
  6. The nurse called me again today to schedule the lactose test (I have put it off b/c I don't think I want it). I asked her if it tests for casein. Her response: "what?!" then dumb silence. Me: "You know, casein, the milk protein" Her: "I don't know anything about that" Nice. Real quality professionals I am dealing with here. And, thanks for the...
  7. Thanks for the help. You both are probably right - it was likely just the combination of ingrediants (not to mention, as jenvan put it, the good-ol period). I really hope this wasn't gluten - I washed my crockpot 2x before using it last night and I guess there is a contamination risk with canned goods. Thanks again for the help!! It means a lot to...
  8. I've eaten only homemade things like chicken soup (gluten-free whole chicken, onions, celery, carrots, salt, McCormick pepper), Enjoy life cereal (never caused problems), homemade sushi (never caused problems), etc...... I made it myself, my husband didn't help. Maybe there was a contamination issue somehow - like a dirty crock pot? I have no idea...
  9. Hi all, I was doing so well and I hadn't been glutened for ~ 2 weeks. But, last night I made chilli and now I am not feeling so well (tired and D). So, though these products are on a gluten-free list I have and I don't remember problems with them before, thought I would run them by you all......Anyone had problems with these? : Bush's canned pinto...
  10. No wonder I got sick last Thanksgiving. I was a new-bie to celiac disease then. Never really thought of this problem. Yikes!
  11. Interesting. Did you see how it listed some products that may contain mercury, including dove? Wonder what kind of mercury.....
  12. Try protein in the morning. I either eat a turkey or regular sausage patty by Wellshire farms and some fruit. Protein does a better job of keeping your tummy full than refined carbs.
  13. Yes, what a nice thing to write, Nancy. If it weren't for the God-awful symptoms, I wonder what the point is too sometimes. Life's hard, no matter your condition, and with celiac disease and everything else, some days I'd rather not deal with it. Your post was inspirational. I am also sorry to hear about your father. I wish your family a comforting and...

OMG - what is wrong with people? Mookie, are you a strong person and if so, are you willing to confront some of these idiots? If not, I might do a search on the web and try to find phone numbers and call these guys...... Definitely not cool on their part.
  15. My recent glutenings were not intentional consumption either. Nothing suspicious was listed as an ingrediant, so I ate the food or used the hairspray unknowingly. I even think that my suspicions of a corn intolerance may be false - I was likely still getting sick from gluten You are not alone at all in this. I submitted a comment for the FDA's labeling...
  16. Vertigo and dizziness may also be a silent migrane. Whatever the cause, if you have celiac disease, dizziness is a symptom as you well know. I have suffered from it too on occasion, mostly when sitting (at computer, watching tv, eating dinner, etc), though it happened once while driving, which was very scary. Although gluten free, I have been glutened...
  17. I agree that items that have such a risk should not be listed as gluten-free. No worries though, I am sensitive and have gotten sick from foods when there was only the contamination factor. It sucks. I too have to own up to the fact that I sometimes don't check my labels and lists until after the fact, though this has stopped for me (took over a year!...
  18. Man, I really need to avoid topics like this - its depressing to consider how little people really know or care to know about things. Guess the saying is very true - Ignorance is bliss. A lot of it too is the FDA's recommendations for "whole grains" which most people think of as wheat products. If the FDA is out there saying that people need to eat...
  19. I don't know that calamine would help if its psoriasis - esp since it is on the scalp...kind of messy.
  20. Jenn 2005, you should PM laurel and not post your email address, since it is now accessible to whoever reads this....just an idea. Good luck with finding a doctor.
  21. I did not know that any were gluten free - the rep implied that they all had gluten (I asked her to email a list of gluten-free products and only Lactaid milk made the cut - no Lactaid pills....hmmm.)
  22. Teacher 1578, Did you read my mind (or my life story?)? When I read your post, it felt like I had written it. He still hasn't come around entirely, but after my most recent glutenings (where gluten was not listed on package, got sick, called, and co. confirmed these things had gluten), he's beginning to take me and my situation (including contamination...
  23. Thanks for the response, Cornbread. I also get that "I never knew you were sick before" from my family. Yeahhhhhh....right. 1) You all don't live with me 2) Your body builds up a tolerance and most undxd celiacs don't have symptoms (at least not that are apparent or directly related)...... So frustrating.
  24. I wasn't trying to imply that it was a quack test, rather that the doc himself was off, sorry if I gave that impression. For one, he claimed the ELISA blood tests are crap and don't work, whereas several people here have had good luck with them (then again, I know very little about the tests, but when people here have used them and a celiac disease book...
