ARCHIVED Furious!
bluelotus replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you for the thoughts,darlindeb25, but I can handle soy - I used to drink silk soy milk all the time and never had any problems. Then I decided to cut out corn and, as such, had to give up silk b/c silk uses corn based flavoring. Other brands of soy yogurt were fine for me, never had any problems with any other brands. Silk makes an excellent yogurt... -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance...
bluelotus replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Found this thread again when I was searching for casein stuff. For those that have tested positive for casein intolerance, are your symptoms similar to lactose intolerance? Just wondering if there is a way to figure out what is bothering me with dairy - lactose or casein - based on my symptoms without a blood or stool test. I tried cream cheese today... -

Yes, you all are right about the ketchup stuff. Sorry. Brain fog making its presence known. -

Good choice. When I could eat dairy, I used to buy the plain and add homemade jam to it......very yummy. -
ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
bluelotus replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yess!! Glad it wasn't just me. My husband thought I was being over-reactive/over-sensitive, but I got so sick from them and refused to eat them afterwards. (He had to eat them, maybe that's why he wasn't too happy). I have also stopped eating food not made in dedicated facilities. Very hard. After these postings, I stopped eating Amy's ketchup and... -
I was disappointed too. I bought the adult size, and they are huge!! Or maybe I have tiny wrists, but OMG, they went up to my elbow - not my wrist. Also, National wildlife federation's bracelets are green (as well as a wilderness program, forget which one) - couldn't they have picked a more unique color? I haven't seen teal or baby blue anywhere.....or...

I've reacted to Stoneyfield soy yogurt though, so be careful, though everyone is different (I dont' want to deal with the Stoneyfield topic again.....just wanted to add a little caution). -
ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
bluelotus replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
We should mention celiac disease and general gluten sensitivity. Gluten sensitivity gets little coverage and is important, if you have only had the blood tests and didn't wait for the biopsy, or if the biopsy came back negative (which can easily happen, even if you have celiac disease). Tiffany (tanelberry sp?) recently pointed out the new NIH stand on... -
ARCHIVED Tobacco Use
bluelotus replied to Jenn2005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to smoke too. When I quit, my abdominal (umm...bathroom) symptoms picked up. I used to have 1 cig a year after quitting, just for old times, but after I went gluten-free, cigs were never the same. I got intense headaches and bloating. I think elonwy is right - the paper is a likely culprit, even in the natural, organic, additive free smokes... -
ARCHIVED Could It Have Gluten?
bluelotus replied to christa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not familiar with the brand, but I do know that the rotisseri ckn at grocery stores has wheat b/c they either use it as a thickener for the sauce or they use a soy sauce as an ingrediant within the sauce. -
ARCHIVED Comparing Symptoms
bluelotus replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi DanceswithWolves, I haven't seen many of your posts, so I am not familiar with your situation. Have you been tested for celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity? Or did the doc not test and just give you a dx of IBS? Anyway, there is a book you might be interested in called Dangerous Grains. They mention that if you are tested for celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Info On How Gluten Got Its Start?

Plant genetics would drive a person crazy - I work on animal population genetics, which is interesting enough...WRowland, if you work on plants, more power to you. I heard that ferns have about 1200 chromosomes.....not sure on the ploidy level, but at least you'd have plenty of microsats to choose from! But seriously, WRowland makes a good point, it... -
ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
bluelotus replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't know the US standards myself, just writing to say that I am glad you got things figured out. I am extremely sensitive to gluten too. I wonder what other Amy's products may be at risk? I don't eat their frozen meals, but I do use thier ketchup and salad dressings. I haven't noticed anything per se as far as a gluten reactiont, but I have been glutened... -
I make salads and homemade soups (make a huge batch of soup on the weekends to freeze and it will last for a few weeks). I have learned how to dress up salads and make them filling. Example - today I had a salad with baby spinach, lettuce mix from store, mushrooms, black olives, avacado, cucumber, cooked white potato (approx 1/4 a potato), chicken drumstick...

ARCHIVED Beaware
bluelotus replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry Berneses to confuse you. They never called the sauce gluten-free, it just appeared that way based on the ingrediants.....absolutely nothing suspicious. Turns out there's gluten somewhere. BTW - I changed my name, so don't mean to confuse anyone. Just avoiding detection from family and friends. -
ARCHIVED Beaware
bluelotus replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have no idea. I would think that the cross contamination issue would be addressed with the gluten-free vs. nonGF facility. My list includes all gluten-free items, even those made in nonGF facilities. So, if it was truly gluten-free but risked cross contam from the facility, it would be on my list. Also, that is a different sauce from the one I had... -
ARCHIVED Beaware

I skimmed over the above website's list and it is comparable to mine. Mine has the 365 brand information only, so the above list is more comprehensive for all Harry's and Whole Foods stores. Because the website has similar information, I'm not going to post my list here. It was around the time of eating that sauce that I had decided not to eat any... -
ARCHIVED Beaware
bluelotus replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have no idea what the source of gluten was. The jar is long gone. Maybe spices?? I can't remember though. I emailed them specifically asking about their chocolate truffles and their regular marinara sauce. All they said was that yes, the sauce contains gluten. I've checked out their website in the past, but can't remember much about their gluten... -
Hi all, I've been having problems with glutenings recently and have had a hard time finding the culprits (though I have successfully found a few). My husband (in a good mood and trying to be helpful) made dinner for me about 2 weeks ago - gluten-free meatballs and spagetti. I got sick as a dog afterward, though I thought it was just a contamination issue...

No worries. I appreciate the clarification. Guess that's yet another shampoo that I have to pass on to my husband. -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
bluelotus replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Blondehart, Did infusium mention their shampoo? I used to use their infusium 23 shampoo for fine hair and haven't used any in months (just in case, since I haven't had time to contact them). Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Stick-on Birth Control Patches, Etc
bluelotus replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used those patches at one time too (before being dx'd). I didn't react to them, but they did slide around on my skin (didn't fall off though) and would leave a nasty little sticky smear that caught a bunch of lint off my clothes. So, although they may work, they aren't very attractive nor are they completely unoticeable. -

Yes, regular Chapstick (their classic flavors) is gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Do I Gluten My Baby?
bluelotus replied to Nikki~Nathan&Danielle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the above opinion, but then again, when your baby is a teenager or young woman, she will want to make her own food decisions outside of the house. In that sense, it would be good to have her tested for celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, so she will know whether she can eat gluten on her own choosing (out of the house) or if it is completely... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Called Me A Hypochondriac
bluelotus replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can understand hubbies needing a break from an obsessive spouse, but I don't consider myself obsessive - that would be his label, not mine. He thinks I'm being obsessive when I say that I can't have any gluten, not even crumbs, that he has to use his own sponge on his "glutened dishes", that I can't kiss him when he's drinking, that he has to clean up...
