ARCHIVED Tigi Bed Head Products - Gluten
bluelotus posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, I may have finally found out what has been making me sick for months. Tigi's Bed Head Superstar Queen for a Day has wheat in it, as well as a bunch of their other products. Anyone interested, send me a personal message or email, and I will give you the list. Now I have to go apologize to my husband. BTW - does anyone know anything... -
ARCHIVED Biosilk Hair Products
bluelotus replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the update. They never got back with me. I am about to post some more info on hair products under a new topic, if you are interested. -
ARCHIVED Walmart Brand Black Pepper?
bluelotus replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't think their pepper has gluten directly added, more of a contamination concern. This pepper is over a year old too, so any new labeling done wouldn't apply to this item. -
ARCHIVED Walmart Brand Black Pepper?
bluelotus posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, some of you may know that I have blammed my on again off again recent glutenings on my husband and possible contamination. Admittedly, I do feel bad putting the blame on him, since I cannot be sure. I haven't always lived with him while I was gluten-free and felt fine while gluten-free and not living with him. But, after moving in, I've been sick... -
Hi again - didn't mean to offend by mentioning Turner's was an issue related to your x-chrom. I am reading "Dangerous Grains" and they mention that people with Turner's should be tested for celiac disease. I am only half way through the book, and so far, they haven't elaborated any more then just that statement.

ARCHIVED Help From You With Other Food Intolerances !
bluelotus replied to jenvan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks. I have read about the Elisa test through other gluten-free books and things and figured this was the test. However, the test is sometimes listed as being an allergy test and not a food sensitivity test. If doctors can't keep it straight, how am I supposed to? I will have to search old posts to see what sort of preparation is required for an... -
ARCHIVED Rice Vinegar?
bluelotus replied to cinda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use raw fish. I use cooked shrimp (either purchased raw and I cook it or purchased cooked), and I roll the shrimp with cucumber, carrots, and avacado. My husband (not gluten-free) has made sushi with smoked salmon (many of which are gluten-free). When he does this, he uses cream cheese and cucumber as well. Since I can't tolerate dairy, I haven... -
ARCHIVED I Get Red Patches On My Hand...like Eczema.
bluelotus replied to melisadki's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have psoriasis (an autoimmune disorder that maybe assoc with celiac disease). It sounds similar to your situation. My husband (not tested for celiac disease) has it to. Usually, it presents itself as dry skin patches that are slightly raised and will itch on occasion. These patches can be either pale or reddish. They are common on elbows, knees, groin... -
ARCHIVED Rice Vinegar?
bluelotus replied to cinda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I make my own sushi at home. So, a couple of months ago, I emailed Kame - they make a "seasoned japanese rice vinegar" and said this product was gluten free. I wouldn't know about other brands b/c this is the only one I looked into. Hope that helps! -
ARCHIVED Nioxin Products
bluelotus replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it is whatever works for you and is a personal decision. I am paranoid, so I cut out all gluten I can think of. But, some may not be as nervous as I am about the whole thing. Also, I am happy to hear that Nioxin worked for Claire, but, unfortuneatly, it did not work for me after being on it over 7 or so months. I hope that, if your little girl... -
I noticed you all mentioned perfume - what perfumes are gluten-free? I have changed my hair products, etc, but not perfumes. hmmmm. sorry for the sort-of change in subject. As mentioned by everyone else, be careful of contamination. Even foods that don't list gluten as an ingrediant may not be gluten-free . There are definitely plenty of examples...

ARCHIVED Help From You With Other Food Intolerances !
bluelotus replied to jenvan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
How did you get tested for food intolerances? I have been tested for allergies with a skin test (IgE) (negative for all 24 groups), but not yet food intolerances. Did you need to be eating those foods to get the test? I noticed just by my discomfort and food elimination that I am sensitive/intolerant to corn-derived products, eggs, and dairy. -
who are these doctors anyway? i wish there was a way of reporting them for ignorance/ineptness. in my field, if you do something stupid, you are held accountable and license is revoked.

ARCHIVED Could Everyone Help Me
bluelotus replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
symtoms prior to going gluten-free (flare up again if glutened): (Note: I was only dx'd with gluten sensitivity by blood test b/c I never got the biospy, but my mom was dx'd with a positive biospy - my symptoms and positive response to a gluten-free diet were enough evidence for me) mood swings/anger issues/depression tummy aches (was constantly taking... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten, Can You Spot Mine?
bluelotus replied to Matilda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd double check the mustard. Then maybe your husband....? I also have a hidden gluten problem, but I think my contamination source is my husband. He doesn't quite get it that he needs to be super careful, use seperate pans from me, clean his messes well, etc, etc, etc. We dated for years and got married while I was still in grad school taking classes... -
ARCHIVED Gf Vanilla
bluelotus replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, McCormicks uses corn alcohol in their vanilla. You can also find alcohol-free varieties at health food stores, though you would need to check with the specific companies, of course. -
ARCHIVED Organic Gluten-free Shampoo And Conditioner
bluelotus replied to RFisher1974's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have used Collective Wellbeing's line for fine hair.....a good shampoo, but not entirely for me. I have oily hair and it was a bit too gentle - my hair would be oily by 5 or 6 pm. -
ARCHIVED Green Mountain Gringo Salsa
bluelotus replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You mentioned tortillas in your first post - I don't eat them, so I am not aware which brands are gluten-free - what about those? -
ARCHIVED Lays Barbq Stax-really Gf?
bluelotus replied to sonjaf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, just received something in the mail from them stating they are made on gluten-free lines. However, I can't eat them b/c of corn oil. Have you considered other food intolerances/allergies? Or maybe it is something you routinely eat with the chips - like diet soda?? -
ARCHIVED Amy's Products

Open Original Shared Link a link to their gluten-free lists -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think Caused It?
bluelotus replied to BamBam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had an acquitence with celiac disease that said she had gotten sick from Fritos (I can't stand the taste, so haven't eaten them since being dx'd). You may want to call them and double check their contamination policy and compare that to your comfort level. -
ARCHIVED My Grandpa (elder Abuse?)
bluelotus replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am so sorry about your grandpa. Being a young person, I obviously have control over what I eat. Otherwise, I know a few relatives that would not want to make any attempt to help me. You are sweet for trying to help him. I have wondered about those situations, about being dependant on other people to recognized the gluten issue - in hospitals, in emergency... -
ARCHIVED Food Ingredient Label Question To Mfg.
bluelotus replied to Bigdawg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is my understanding that one link mentions the possible breakage of a peptide bond within the gluten molecule, which may be recognized by the body and cause a rxn. That is what I got from it anyway. Whatever. I am done with this topic. -
ARCHIVED Food Ingredient Label Question To Mfg.
bluelotus replied to Bigdawg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know you all are trying to be helpful. But I am in a pissy mood and this is not doing me any good. So, I will try to be as polite and understanding as I can. I took chemistry in college through organic, so thanks, but I do have a decent understanding of things. See the contradicting (and generic, but couldn't find the good ones I had several months... -
Dots, toitse rolls (sp?), swedish fish, some m and m's (not the krispy kind), mike and ike, hot tamales....these were my fav's until i went off dairy and corn.
