  1. I am so glad you reiterated that, Matilda!! I have posted that fact about celiac disease's inheritance several times and in several relevant forums, but people just ignore it.... You, laurelfla, are lucky that your family wants to be tested, that they love themselves and you enough to wish for everyone's health. My dad and the rest of my family ignore...
  2. Wow, thanks quantumsugar.
  3. Any thanksgiving recipes for those that can't tolerate other things - like dairy, eggs, or corn?
  4. Psoriasis tends to abate when a person goes gluten-free, though takes some time. Never meant to imply that you shouldn't see a derm., that's something you really should do. So many skin disorders out there - may not even be DH, psoriasis, or eczema. Anyway, good luck.
  5. Ha! You're cynical and sarcastic just like me - I appreciated reading this.
  6. Sounds like psoriasis, though I have never had eczema or DH, so I couldn't tell you about those. Psoriasis tends to be raised patches of skin, usually red in color (though it can be pale), sometimes itchy, sometimes flaky.....I wouldn't describe it as tender or painful per se. These may show up anywhere, but are common on knees, elbows and the scalp. I...
  7. Thanks anyways. Like I said, I am not trying to get into a debate about distilled products. I got sick off it, it may be b.c it was distilled, it may be because of crappy contamination control in a plant that obviously uses wheat. I have celiac disease. Never seen glucose syrup in the states, so its not a big deal. Thanks anyways for your concern...
  8. Hi KenS, I don't know anything about glucose syrup, so is this something that is distilled from a grain? I don't want to bring up that debate again (I kind of got upset with some in the forum, including Tarnalberry....feel bad ) Anyway, if it is distilled or just 'grain-derived' at some point, maybe there is an inherent contamination risk involved...
  9. I agree with you, Richard, but my mom was a single mother, so I know that convenience is a God-send verses having to make your own jams, sauces, breads, etc all the time. Maybe Richard meant that it might be best to keep meals simple? That can cut the price if you use basics like potatos and rice for your starches, basic meat, and veggies. This way you...
  10. Found the blood type stuff - remember that this is based on frequency data - meaning that certain blood groups occured all over the globe, but were more common in particular areas (likely as a result of the manner of inheritance). Clear as mud? Also, I have no refernce date for this data, so not sure if this stuff was from the 50s or the 90s....who knows...
  11. I have a list from a Illinois support group that says the eggs are gluten-free. (I don't belong to that support group, being in GA myself). You might want to double check with the company b/c this list was from 2004.
  12. Blood type tends to be correlated with certain areas of the world (but this is starting to change with easier travel and migration as well as intermarriages/reproduction). Though it was discussed in one of my population genetics classes, I have forgotten what blood types were more common where (I think B was more of a Mongolian type?? that is all I can recall...
  13. Open Original Shared Link DQ stuff. I have not eaten at either place since going gluten-free, so I couldn't tell you if they do a good job w/ their contamination control.......maybe someone here can help you out with that.
  14. Open Original Shared Link BK's website. They only mention wheat (not gluten)....
  15. I know of the argument you are refering to and have refrained from reading it so that I would not get pulled in. But what you said above couldn't be better said. I'm with you all the way!
  16. I remember that there was a website that compared mcdonalds, wendys, and bk with gluten free listings.....this was months ago. Maybe someone else knows what I am talking about? I don't have time to check their website, but have you tried that? I hope your daughter feels better soon. BTW - I can check for you, but I think DQ offers a lot of gluten-free...
  17. About Revlon - thought someone wrote recently that they wouldn't give a straight answer? Hmmm. Maybe they've gotten their act together.
  18. I appreciate everyone's help, but considering I am feeling pretty ill today (and have been super careful this past week with gluten since discovering some sources), I think I have a casein intolerance. I was feeling lucky and had cream cheese again today (as well as a lactase pill), and although I don't have brain fog, I feel like I've been glutened. Yuck...
  19. I used to drink Silk soy milk, which was tasty, but then I found out that they use corn for their flavorings and I am trying to avoid corn. I agree, rice milk is high carb, but right now, it is gentle enough on me that I haven't had problems. I'd like to move on to almond and others once my tummy has settled some from recent glutenings. The rice milk I...
  20. Light purple is diabetes, I think. Or maybe that was March of Dimes...not sure But no teal on your list! My gripe about green was that everyone I know has green bracelets b/c they are all "Greenies", so I never get asked about mine since it blends in. Kind of defeats the purpose (other than some money going to research).
  21. I told him that dairy bothers me and that I seem fine when I've taken lactase pills, though I wasn't sure if casein may be bothering me too. The above test is a way to test for lactose intolerance. I guess if you don't get sick from the lactose, its the casein that gets you...... Not really sure that the thing is worth my time. He was an older doctor...
  22. I can't answer all your questions, but your symptoms sound along the lines of celiac disease. There was a thread recently where people listed all their symptoms. Do a search for it if you are curious. My symptoms would also fluctuate (while eating gluten constantly), which I think is why it takes so many people a long time to get dxd. If symptoms aren...
  23. You should have told the lady that bananas are cents on the pound....they're the poor man's fruit. Jeez. Ignorant parents are scary - makes me a bit concerned as to what the future generations will be like. Poor kid is probably constipated to all hell if he never gets to eat fruit
  24. I hear you on the "no cheese" thing.....not much out there that is as hardy. Nuts maybe, if you aren't allergic...... I went to a gastro today and he did not believe that the Elisa tests were accurate and didn't want to do one (also was a bit put off that I asked about it since he claimed my regular doc could have ordered the test). He said the only...
  25. Thanks for your above replies. I will be seeing a gastroenterologist today and will be asking him to test me for delayed allergies, including casein. I seemed to handle the cream cheese well from yesterday, so keeping my fingers crossed that it is just lactose....I miss cheese
