  1. Yes, cross-contam, watch out! Make sure to specify the meat patty (if that is what you get) cannot touch bread - some people will take the buns off and try to serve that to you.
  2. try wellshire farms. they can be found online and at health food stores. they make bacon, sausages, and hams that are gluten-free.
  3. I think you all are misunderstanding me, so I will only say this once and be done. My problem is with hidden gluten. yes, the law says that they will specify whether the plant processes wheat, but I don't know about 90-95%, I need to see the data. Just b/c someone wrote that doesn't make it true. Consider Lay's Natural line of chips. They do not...
  4. I think the new law is a bunch of crap. What about barley, rye, and oats? That doesn't have to be listed yet. And do they even consider wheat relatives as "wheat"?? I have had one company that told me that all gluten would be listed on their packaging, but when I asked about a specific meal, they told me it was not gluten-free (okay, but no gluten on the...
  5. When I read this, all I could hear was the boss from Office Space saying "yeaaahhh" Riiiight. Laughable how a food company doesn't know/can't be held accountable for what's in their food. Guess I won't be eating their stuff.
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I am dairy, egg, and corn free as well. My husband (not gluten-free and thinks I am overly sensitive) sometimes helps with cooking or washing dishes. However, I don't think he is as aware as he needs to be and the source of contamination in any cooking likely resulted from him (ex. Me "Did you wash your hands before starting...
  7. I have already been diagnosed, but like you, BB, a sort-of master's program grad (finishing thesis now) and have just started an internship. Most of my bathroom/stomach issues happen in the morning and evening, so I am lucky there and don't have to face that stuff at work. The hardest part for me is brain fog and headaches. I was dx'd in Nov 04 and ever...
  8. Hi all, I tried cooking this week with wine for the first time. Very yummy. But, I think it may be causing me issues. I am having some tummy symptoms and am wondering if it is related to this new cooking technique. I haven't had anything else new in my diet this week, so I doubt I was glutened - though I guess you can never rule out contamination. ...
  9. Yes, smells get me too. My gym was repainting around the track and have been for a week. Everytime I went jogging, I'd get a headache. I've asked several times that they put fans up, but to no avail. I sometimes get "silent" migranes too, with only eye problems (can't see/spotty vision out of the periphery), these instances may or may not be followed...
  10. Too bad you can't notify a dietican board or somthing - get her license revoked.
  11. No, I don't drop weight overnight, but I do put on a few pounds the week following....I think that is b/c I am so hungry after being glutened (isn't suprising since my body doesn't have time to process much before flushing it out).
  12. I haven't noticed it on the toliet, but my arms/feet/legs do seem to fall asleep often, even in positions where they shouldn't, like sleeping (the body's level). But, I have slightly lower blood pressure, so that may be why??
  13. I too get very bad headaches behind my right eye and it is associated with gluten for me. After being glutened, they will occur every day for about a week and a half.
  14. "A proper gluten challenge means 3 months on 4 slices bread or equivalent per day. Therefore that means that I will say to him when I feel the time is ripe, you will take active and full responsibility for the effects on my life - including but not only sick notes - both during the challenge, and for an indefinite recovery timeframe afterwards, and I'll do...
  15. I looked up the ingrediants online for you and it does appear to have wheat in it. It is confusing, since most tamari's are gluten-free, but not always. Although this brand does have a gluten-free tamari, you have to look for the label specifying wheat-free. Sorry.
  16. Forgot to mention too - I hadn't heard about the pancreatitis assoc, although I would not be suprised, however, I know it is assoc with gall bladder issues too. Both of those organs are involved with digestion and processing various items, so if something is wrong with the dig. tract, it would easily follow that assoc organs would experience trouble.
  17. Turner's syndrome has to do with one of your x-chromosomes. Celiac disease is thought to be on a different chrom (if it was on x, or x-assoc, more males than females would likely have it). Someone correct me, but I think celiac disease is assoc with chrom 6 or 16 (I think there is a 6 in there somewhere). Anyway, I hope it helps.
  18. I'll make an attempt to come to the meeting as well. Informing people would be a good thing.....make our lives a little easier, and there's no complaining there.
  19. I have a corn intolerance too - it sucks. Corn is in everything, esp. mainstream stuff as they tend to substitute quality sweeteners with corn syrup. *Sigh* I noticed my intolerance b/c I was gluten-free a(nd had been for 7+ months) and, all of a sudden, I began to get sick again (D, headaches, fatigue, fever, sweats). Went through the whole thing again...
  20. Thanks for the tips. Wish I had the business know-how and I'd start one myself - likely to go out of business in a year b/c of lack of business, but, hey, at least I would have made my point.
  21. I am angered by so many of these stories. What is wrong with people?!? I began to channel my anger by running more - every time my foot hits the pavement, I am stomping out one more idiot. I am sorry your son was embarrassed. Not a good start to a life long condition, and I hope that as he gets into a routine, he will begin to expect this from people...
  22. Thanks for the threads, but I was hoping for a restaurant that only makes gluten-free food. That way, no asking for a special chef, no explanations to the waiter. Just go in, and its cool, people know what they need to do .......... But, I do appreciate the heads up.
  23. Anyone know of any specifically gluten-free restaurants in ATL? I know there is that one in NY city, though I have forgotten the name. I wish that people would take advantage of our market and buying power. I miss eating out I refuse to eat at restaurants now - too many bad experiences. But, a dedicated gluten-free restaurant would really ease my...
  24. Thanks for the update. I was tempted to buy their shampoo recently and didn't, a last minute bout of common sense! I also use Dove products as well as Collective Wellbeing - have had good luck with both, though Dove is cheaper (monetarily speaking).
  25. Good questions, though I can't help you...I have no idea. I was wondering the same thing about the pans and gladware. I hope someone has some ideas.
