ARCHIVED How Does Jury Duty Work?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I sell promotional products for a living so I probably have over 20 various coolers of all types. I do own my own business and have no one to run it when I'm out but I guess they don't care about that either. At least Aug. is my dead time for work. -
ARCHIVED Best gluten-free Pie Crust And Flours
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made quiche for Sunday brunch and was plesantly surpised that not only did the Gillian's gluten-free pic crust (ready made) not burn, it was actually edible too. It is not something one would rave over but also I would not hesitate to serve it to guests without mentioning it's gluten free. I really was not that different from a Pet Ritz crust which after... -
So I've lived in GA for 20 years off and on and have never beened called to serve on Jury duty. Until last week that is. My summons is for week after next so I sent a letter along with my registration that noted my need for access to a refridgerator. I can assure you my county can NOT feed me a safe gluten free meal. Has anyone ever had jury duty after your...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bakehouse Bread
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have found that late Sunday afternoon is THE time to visit Harry's/WF. We did to go on Saturday but it's a zoo then and you know with all the label reading it's kind of hard not to be in the way of others. If I must have something for Sat. night then I run over during lunch on Friday and pick up a few things. I'm pretty excited about the new store. I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bakehouse Bread
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Patti! I thought it was you that posted about this bread but then I went to look it up and didn't find it. Our Whole Foods is moving next month. I'm happy that the store is going to be fabulous BUT it's going to be over five miles futher from me now. In any case, the current store is closing mid Sept. and will not open back for two weeks so in case... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bakehouse Bread
floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to Whole Foods to buy some GFB reg. bread but found there are two versions and I don't know what the difference is. I love their sun dried tomato and cin. raisin breads but I'm looking for the plainest flavor bread so I can make sandwiches or toast and such. The two breads in question are the Prairie Bread and the Sandwich bread. Does anyone know what... -
I was at the meeting nini refers to. The only doctor that was invited to attend to hear Dr. Rudert speak was the guy from Arby's. Our group invited maybe 60+ docs in the area and the guy who attended does not even see patients. I was very impressed with him but I know a lot about the owner of the Arby's in town (who owns more than anyone in the world) and...

ARCHIVED Pasta Cake Recipe

The recipe calls for Ziti but I used penne. I had Bi-Aglut but I'm sure Tink. would work great too. -
ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
floridanative replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As none of my doctors know as much about Celiac as I do, I found Dr. Green's book to be extremely helpful. I found out about my osteopenia due to the tests he recommends in the book. However, I will say that Dr. Cynthia Rudert of Atlanta (only 'expert' in Celiac in the SE) said that she never asks a patient to do a gluten challenge and make themselves sick... -
Isonic - THANK YOU! I am normally not online but I just had to see if anyone responded with any helpful info on what is happening to me at the dentist. I googled for a biodentist in my area and there is one lone soul less than 20 miles from me. I have e-mailed their office and will call them tomorrow. He was a 'regular' dentist until he did a study about...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cheesecake
floridanative replied to Sheryl in NJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Elwony - sorry you had dental surgery - doesn't sound like fun. Did you post about your vacation on this site? If so I want to find it to read about your dining in London. Glad you used the Pamela's method for crust sucessfully. I found that recipe on their website and I'm going to attempt a peanut butter/choc. no bake pie that needs that crumb crust. -
Months ago when I was in denial that I needed to learn to cook, my sister sent me a recipe for a Pasta Cake from the Martha Stewart website. I finally tried it over the weekend and since I do not have a spring form pan I modified the recipe adding whipping cream and baked in casserole dish instead. Well it's not only super easy to make, it's simply wonderful...

Thank you tiffjake - it must not be that bad since Mother didn't bother to call me back to discuss. Then again she kept the incident to herself until she had to tell my sister since she had to tell her about the test. I figure if it's important, someone will eventually call and let me know. It's like my two siblings and parents all live five miles from each... -
Many on this board, including me, have expressed that we would never want most of our freinds and family to come on this site and read our posts, as they may not be so nice at times and could hurt the feeling of those we care for. Well something interesting just happened when I was searching online for gluten-free places to eat for an upcoming trip. My own...

ARCHIVED Pos Biospsy Now Dr Says Its Not Celiac?
floridanative replied to dahams04's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your child has Celiac if he has blunting of any kind on his villi. If you had your son off gluten and he did well on it, keep him on it and get on with your life. Most doctors (1) don't know as much as you do about Celiac, unfortunately and (2) for some reason, hate to diagnose it in this country. I had two docs try really hard to tell me I didn't have it... -
Thanks. I will probably be feeling great tomorrow but still should chew only with one side of my mouth for a week which I find challenging to do. The soreness and throbbing will probably be gone either by tomorrow if it's like last year. I guess the bright side is next week's session should be a cakewalk compared to today. DH brought up a good point after...

ARCHIVED Talk On Sirius Radio
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well I'm sorry you missed it. It was wonderful hearing someone talk about how challenging it is to eat out but that it can be done. Kim has Celiac and she can't dairy and something else I think. I tried calling in but the line was constantly busy. I just wanted to thank Kim and Robert for their book and tell them how I used it to learn how to eat our here... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Living Magazine
floridanative replied to hez's topic in Publications & Publicity
I did not get my Spring issue yet.......I will not be renewing just for that reason, it's always sooooooooo late. Why would someone want the holiday/winter issue in April? If Ann, the editor or anyone there said that about personal care products, well then they will be responsible when they go under. I know for a fact that they are hard pressed for money... -
Thanks Nisla - I'm feeling much better now, mouth/jaw is sore but 4 Advils every 4 hours is keeping that to a minimum. I see no dental experts have logged in with their opinion on what happened today. Now DH gets home and thinks that I should not have to wait a week to go back for the job to be completed but I told him that is their protocol. I did think...

This is not my week. My root canal could not be completed today. There was a 'complcation' and I was sent home after two hours with some bright white temp. filling over some cotton. I have to go back next week to have procedure completed. My jaw is sore as anyone's would be with it forced open that long. Now I have to take 30 penicillan pills I was rx'd....

ARCHIVED A gluten-free Week On A Ranch In The West Anyone?
floridanative replied to Nevadan's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
That sounds totally cool George! Glad you had such a great time and thanks for sharing. Next year is a 'lite' vacation year for us (meaning we'll be here in the states) so I found out about the only gluten-free B&B that only serves gluten-free food to everyone - Celiac or not. I've already booked our stay for next spring. Not only will I get gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Why Don't People 'get It'?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
FOTFLMAO! Oh my you're funny! I'm sorry you feel this way but totally understand. I'm dreading a family reunion that we'll have our own cabin for. No way to share with tons of gluten eaters. I'm sure it will be very interesting seeing how everyone acts as this is the first time seeing them since dx. My only saving grace is that my SIL will arrive a day early... -
