ARCHIVED Ortega Taco Seasoning Mix?
LauraTX replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they have a list of things that are gluten-free, and that is not on the list, unless it is a brand new product that they haven't had a chance to put on there yet, probably means it is not gluten-free. -

ARCHIVED Maple Farms Whole Duck
LauraTX replied to pixiegamer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I scoped out their website and didn't find any info. If you aren't sure, they seem like a smaller company and you should have pretty good success emailing them. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Glad to hear you had a good meal. It sounds like you got lucky finding a pasta brand you like on the first try! Definitely do not have to miss out on pasta. Tonight I made chicken quesadillas with refried beans and fresh guac. Hubby hates it so more for me! -
I was about to say the same thing. One time I bought a handful of their gluten-free burritos (which are awesome by the way) and almost bought a regular burrito that had gotten stuck in there. Also the stockers at my store like to shove the gluten version in the gluten-free spot when they aren't paying attention, especially with brands that have a gluten...

ARCHIVED Help! Are Sonic Drinks gluten-free?
LauraTX replied to MommyOfTwinkies<3's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Last time I checked all their drinks are gluten-free, but if you order a shake in a plain flavor (not one with cookies in it) ask them to clean the stirry thing. Found this very easily with a google search, and also by going to their website. Open Original Shared Link It puts all the slush drinks into the blended drinks category which says they... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I finally picked up some of those Breton crackers and I am a believer now. lol. Tonight is grilled chicken with sweet potatoes and carrots. An Orange meal, haha. -
ARCHIVED New Guy- Needs Help To Start Diet For The New Year!
LauraTX replied to jay81's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
White corn tortillas make really good soft tacos without the "corny" taste. And of course, they are pennies on the dollar to the gluten-free tortillas. -
ARCHIVED Quick Dinner Ideas
LauraTX replied to tifftiff4's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Welcome to the forum, tiff! How many people do you have to feed at each meal? One of my favorite meals when I am busy for the day but want something to eat when I get home, that you may be able to put on when you go to sleep in the AM after work is crock pot beans. I base it off this recipe: Open Original Shared Link and you can basically use any... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight, even though I can't stop thinking about the best pizza ever I ate yesterday and am tempted to go pick up another one.... haha... I am making red beans and rice. I make the beans in a crock pot (half recipe/half sized crock pot) via this recipe: http://www.plainchicken.com/2012/02/slow-cooker-red-beans-rice.html just no sausage today. I make... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
LauraTX replied to Gfree2013's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh no, I hate that! Now I am starting to re-think the hundreds of recipes I have saved as web bookmarks. I wish I could help you! Hopefully someone on here will have it saved! Also, if you know who ran that blog and maybe if there is still a way to contact them, you could have some luck doing that. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When I worked at a retail pharmacy, we had two families, one with a dog, one with a cat, who would come through the drive thru with their pets who had diabetes and get their insulin and syringes. One day I spoke to the lady with the cat in depth about it, and I asked her how she is able to stab her cat many times a day. She said her cat just seems to know... -
ARCHIVED Disappointed At Chipotle - What Should I Expect?
LauraTX replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Welcome to the forum, lovely! (I re-read that and I imagine it in a British accent... lol) I like the way you think, avoiding CC. The Lettuce and Cheese that they grab with their hands, I will not eat off the line. They go through a ton, though, and always have some ready to refill the line in the back. So if they are not busy, I will ask them to... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Hamburger Bun Idea- Think Outside The Bun!
LauraTX replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oooooohhhh mini burgers!!! Genius! When I bought my mandoline slicer recently (doesn't do waffle fries though, dangit!) my husband made me pinky swear I would always use the included food guard before letting me get it off the shelf. I am very accident prone and I think me having that scares him, lol. -
ARCHIVED Venting About Lazy In-Laws
LauraTX replied to ljgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your daughter was newly diagnosed I would say that this will get better, but after a long time, it probably won't. I want to start quoting dear abby here when I heard you talk about being invited and then told to bring your own food. Not nice. The good thing in this situation is with your daughter being 16, she is probably smart enough now to know... -
ARCHIVED Commercial For Celiac Testing
LauraTX replied to kareng's topic in Publications & Publicity
I think they did a pretty good job on that commercial but most people who see it will probably ignore it. Have you heard those radio commercials for Ankylosing Spondylitis? Used to play a lot in my area last year. It is so random and specific... all I can think is if your back pain is THAT bad you probably already know it is messed up, don't you? LOL... -
ARCHIVED Russo's Frozen Pizza
LauraTX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
... is the BEST darn thing I have put in my mouth since my celiac diagnosis! I was at Kroger in the Fort Worth, TX area today and decided to splurge on a gourmet looking gluten-free pizza to cook when I got home. It is called Russos, and has the CSA logo on the back. Open Original Shared Link is the website but you may have to email them to see where... -

Last night was chicken stir fry with brown rice noodles. Tonight will be grilled sirloin steaks with sweet corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. -
ARCHIVED Nexium And Other Ppis
LauraTX replied to whitepine's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are on Nexium 40mg (most common adult dosage), there are other lesser doses (more commonly used in children) that your doctor can prescribe as a step down if they feel it is appropriate. It also may be a situation where you are somewhere in between needing something as strong as Nexium and nothing at all, and your doctor may want you to step down... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Hamburger Bun Idea- Think Outside The Bun!
LauraTX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So, I read an article linking to this original post: Open Original Shared Link And I thought, holy crap! That looks delicious and (minus the gross food glue dunno whats in that) gluten free. Think of the possibilities... Like those baked cheesy bacon potato skin thingies used as a hamburger bun. Mmmmm. Or two twice baked potatoes used as a hamburger... -
