  1. I saw the gluten-free crumpets at Central Market in Fort Worth,TX when I went there yesterday to get a large haul of gluten-free bread for my freezer. So, they ARE out there! Also I found this article online speaking of Amazon.com's plans to extend into the Czech Republic. So maybe they will come about soon and make online ordering of some things...
  2. I will pass up the whole eating gluten-free issue to lose weight thing for now, I think the previous people addressed that appropriately. Before I went gluten-free, I loved those pouch noodles and such, and no, they don't make any that are gluten free. However, once you realize what is in them it is pretty simple to replicate the noodles + gravy thing...
  3. For me, the response depends on who is asking. Total stranger, "No thanks" is good. Someone you will have to see again like maybe a person at a meeting or group, "No thanks I had a HUGE lunch" seems to always work or if they know you are hungry, "No thanks, I can't eat that" or "No thanks I have a food allergy" are usually good. Also "I am going to my...
  4. I am so glad I am not the only person who has dreams like this, I was about to start a thread but I thought I would search first. Once a month or so its like, I sit down at a restaurant and eat a piece of bread/slice of cake and then I realize I shouldn't have eaten that and hysteria erupts. I also dream that I walk through the bakery in the grocery store...
  5. I have no intention of ever trying the domino's gluten-free pizza. I think it is insulting to people with food allergies to offer a false happiness-inducing offer, haha. I HAVE had relatives and friends say "Oh we will just order you a gluten free pizza from dominos is that okay?" And I am like: "NOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......
  6. Every Wednesday my husband gets fed an enormous lunch at work so he won't want dinner when he gets home, just a snack. So that day of the week is when I cook things he doesn't like, AKA most vegetables. This past week it was a small amount of tinkyada rotini pasta with a mushroom meat sauce, more mushrooms in it than anything. He hates those the most,...
  7. I basically said this same thing on the chicken nugget thread, but crushed up potato chips are great on meat and veggies. For meat that I don't want the coating falling off of, I use 1/3 parmesean, 1/3 crushed up chips, 1/3 corn meal, pulsed in the food processor until the chips aren't totally jagged. If you bake them raised on a grate in the pan, the bottoms...
  8. Crushed up potato chips make a great coating for oven "fried" items. Probably not so much when actually fried, though. But I make oven "fried" baked breaded meats frequently, usually the breading I will use half parmesean and half breading (crushed up cereal, corn meal, rice flour, crushed chips) and I just brush the meat with egg to make it stick. You could...
  9. I second this, King Arthur Flour gluten-free brownie mix was the first thing I made when I went gluten-free, I think I lucked out because it makes the best, moist fugdy brownies and the texture is exactly like it is supposed to be. Mmmmmmmm.... Also, don't ruin your chocolate by adding coffee to it, just saying.... >.< (Personal preference, I...
  10. I know this is a few months old BUT at walmart and my local store, HEB, they have Van's gluten-free Cheese Crackers and they are the closest thing to gluten-free cheezits I have found. Taste is buttery and cheesy. I have also tried the multigrain but they tasted a little plain, need a dip or something. Open Original Shared Link -Fellow Cheese Lover
  11. I started reading this thinking you were looking for a cereal, I was like "gotta tell her about Vans" LOL The honey nut crunch is my favorite gluten-free cereal, and decently priced. Not too much sugar, and a good amount of fiber, too.
  12. Karen, I have made home made ice cream before and saved the egg whites from all those yolks I used, put them in an ice cube tray and then stored them in a bag once frozen. Here is a website that lays out how to freeze eggs, but yes they do freeze well, out of the shell of course. For whole eggs I would beat them, and freeze in ice cube trays so you can...
  13. HI Celeste, I know very much how at first a Celiac diagnosis is very overwhelming. This site is a great reference, I was reading this forum for a long time before I actually joined and posted, but it really helped me through the initial start of my gluten-free diet. I don't think you will need to change jobs. Basically, if you are not putting it in your...
  14. If you have to order or buy a large container of gluten-free oats, they also freeze well. I keep a big bag closed airtight in the freezer since I don't access it a lot, and they don't go stale. Also for instant gluten-free oatmeal I LOVE bakery on main brand, they have different flavors that are all good. Priced about a dollar per serving. Open Original...
  15. I have tried it, twice already It is better than any of the frozen crusts. It is a bit sweet, but not overly sweet-however I can see this being good for a dessert pizza or another sweet use. It spreads fairly easy and doesn't stick. I would let it sit out a few minutes it makes it even easier to pat out into the pan. I baked it a little longer than...
  16. I take Mylan brand levothyroxine. Some times people don't do well with a certain brand, but what matters is that you find one that works for you and stick with it. If you change manufacturers, follow up with a blood test, since when things are measured in micrograms, the teeny differences in active ingredients between manufacturers can be enough to make...
  17. I used Gluten-Free Connect, which is three times a year I think. Got two of their mailings, then cancelled. I think if you are new to the gluten-free diet it may be helpful with samples and coupons, but it mostly included samples of a lot of weird things that I wouldn't eat anyways, like raw food bars, artificial sweeteners, other nasty tasting processed...
  18. I have tried the yellow cake mix, it was pretty good and stayed fresh and moist (iced) at room temp until it was gone at day 4. I also tried the brownie mix, which was good, but they got a little dry and stale at day 2. Maybe I cooked them too long. Id keep them in the fridge.
  19. The "Whats for dinner" thread is right up my alley! I grocery shop once a week (well usually I forget something and go back mid-week) and I plan the meals I am going to make, I am always looking to do something different. D, I bet you are proud of your daughter to be at a place like GIAL From what I have been told by my doctors, the Lupus, Celiac...
  20. Hi Everyone, My Name is Laura and I live near Fort Worth, TX. I was diagnosed with celiac via biopsy/blood draw in January 2013, been gluten-free ever since. I have been reading this forum a lot so I figured I should finally sign up and join in on the fun. I have a lot of other health problems, too- lupus and common variable immunodeficiency, that kind...
  21. Its funny you mention the swapping spit thing, because my non-gluten-free husband will halt me from kissing him on the lips when he has eaten gluten recently. I suppose I have him well-trained
