  1. Yeah, its weird. I am ok with Tostitos, but not with many of Lay's regular chips (Staxx are ok)... Everyone is a bit different and there is always the chance for CC with big companies.
  2. In all honesty, I have never seen this to be the case. I have eaten at Wendy's numerous times and never gotten glutened from the chili. Furthermore, in almost every Wendy's you can see them make the food. In the times I have witnessed them "screw up" my hamburger (i.e. putting the bun on it), they have always thrown out that burger and made a fresh...
  3. I like the apple lara bars. I don't eat them for flavor, I eat them because they are gluten free and give me some energy (and fiber)
  4. FYI, Wendy's restaurants do not have "flour" in the builidng. Their buns come pre-packaged. Furthermore, their chili is prepackaged and they add meat to it. They do not add flour to their chili (according to their corporate office). I have never been glutened by the chili (I have been glutened by their fries). I usually get a large chili with cheese...
  5. MCD's is a personal issue. I have been glutened there a few times, but not by the fries (normally by people handling buns and then touching my food). University of Nebraska testing has shown that the fries and the oil used to cook them are gluten free. Having said that, some people are more sensitive to wheat fibers/molecules than others. Also, cross...
  6. Questions I would ask: 1. Do they season the baked potato? 2. How is the chicken cooked? (BBQ? Do they use clean tongs or a spatula?) 3. Other than salt, is the chicken made with a marinade (If so, what are the ingredients in the marinade?) 4. Anything other than salt on the chicken? 5. What are the ingredients in the mashed potatoes? (Is it...
  7. Sweetp, try Kinnikinnick bread (www.kinnikinnick.com) for online ordering and Tinkyada noodles (taste like regular noodles)
  8. Thanks for the recipe Chels, I made country fried steak tonight and it was delicious!! It has been too long. Now, if I can figure out how to make decent sausage gravy for my whole foods biscuits...
  9. Deby's Gluten Free Bakery and Cafe in Denver is 100% gluten free. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner... In Vegas, you have many choices. Besides the usual chain restaurants, you can go to: 1 Staxx in the Mirage (Call ahead, tell them you are Celiac) 2 Samba in the Mirage (Same thing) 3 Craftsteak in MGM 4 Cafe Ba Ba Reeba in the Fashion...
  10. There is no one that I trust more than myself when it comes to eating safely. Other people are simply not as vigilant. My family makes an effort, but they don't understand "hidden gluten" and they are confused about starches, corn starches, hydrolyzed proteins, etc... Bottom line = unless I marry another Celiac, I will never completely trust anyone...
  11. Thanks Mango, I know where the Whole Food Hillcrest is.
  12. Hey Gang, I am going to SD for the weekend. Do they sell Bards Beer / Ramapo Valley /New Grist anywhere? Thanks, Bronco
  13. The Golden Ox (downtown) The greatest steak I have ever had. Its in the "slaughterhouse district" Its old and rustic, but they make a damn fine steak!
  14. The short answer is " I like them both". New Grist is my favorite, but that is due to the hoppy flavor. Bards is a bit nuttier, but there is nothing wrong with it.
  15. The manager at the Famous Dave's here in Vegas came to the table and told me that their BBQ sauce had gluten in it and to order a burger (no bun).
  16. I don't think I've ever seen a Kraut that had gluten in it (except if it was "beer kraut") I buy the ones in the jars as they taste better than the ones in the cans...
  17. You'll be fine. Just be up front, honest and confident (Boys like confident women!). On a side note, I am not sure I would go to a Mexican place on a first day. It just might be a "gas"... Man, that was a bad joke...
  18. FYI, There are MANY people who have a problem with Lays Potato Chips (*actually Frito Lay in general). I know that Ruffles and Staxx are made on "dedicated" lines. The other products are on regular lines that only get "cleaned" between each batch.
  19. That is an interesting response if it is an American company. The US does not have a standard for what gluten free is. They must be using the European Codex standard, which is inapplicable (legally) here...
  20. ZIPLOC OMELET (This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!) Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them. Put out a variety...
  21. Hope everything works out for ya! I am scheduled to get a Nuclear/Adenosine Echocardiagram in the next couple weeks...SIGH the Doc thinks there is an abnormality in my heartbeat. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
  22. From my experience in the restaurant industry (10 years), this server has no idea what she is talking about. Pf chang's prides itself on good food and consistent food. Food can neither be good or consistent if they reuse pans. Furthermore, I have never worked in a restaurant (we're talking like 15 restaurants - LOL) where they "reused" pans. ...
  23. Cheaper bacons have been known t use soy sauce as a sodium additive. However, having said that, the only one I have definitively seen as having gluten are Farmer Johns, some Turkey Bacon and McDonalds Bacon Bronco
  24. You know what's weird about Wendy's fries? They can either be the best fries out there (normally this occurs when they are fresh out of the fryer) or they can be the absolute worst (Wendy's fries do not do well under the heat lamp...) Just throwing that out there...sometimes, I analyze my food too much -- LOL
  25. first, get yourself some gluten free hot dog buns at kinnikinnick.com or order some from Debys Gluten Free bakery. Second, buy some Hebrew National or Oscar Meyer Hot Regular Hot Dogs Third, get some shredded cheddar cheese Lastly, get some Hormel Chili -- the kind WITH beans should be ok. www.hormel.com -- they have a gluten free list available...
