ARCHIVED Burger King's French Fries.
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Burger King is notorious for placing their onion rings and fries in the same "articficial heat lamp" after they are cooked. Also, BK uses the same tongs for the onion rings and the fries. Lastly, most BK's do not use dedicated fryers. I would not eat their fries! -

Not all Wendy's fryers are dedicated. You have to ask the manager at each one. The Baker and Country Crock are fine...I also eat the chili there.

When I referred to buffets in my earlier post, I was referring to breakfast buffets. At those buffets, I normally get cheese and veggie omelettes (made by the omelette dude), fresh fruit and berries, OJ, coffee and occasionally some smoked salmon or salad. I had the corned beef reuben at carnegie deli (no bread) and I was fine. They serve Boar's Head... -

ARCHIVED What Kinds Of Restaurants Have You Eaten In Successfully?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Just some general advice (from a guy who worked in the restaurant business for 10 years) 1. When you eat at PF Chang's, you need to make sure the waiter/waitress labels your item as "Gluten Free" as the gluten free menu is different from the regular menu items. Sp when you order, say "I want the gluten free chang's chicken and the gluten free lettuce wraps... -
ARCHIVED Ok...i Was All Ready To Buy A New Toaster ... Then
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Lymetoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought my own and went as far as writing my last name in red permanent marker on the side so the roommates don't make a mistake. It looks gaudy, but it has been effective. (I have been through 3-4 toasters in the last 10 years due to forgetful/careless/drunk roommates) -
ARCHIVED Jagermeister & Red Bull
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Rikki Tikki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED The Old Spaghetti Factory
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It should not be a big problem. You just need to communicate with the chef and the GM. Here is what they have to do. 1. Tell you which pasta they use... 2. Tell you they will use a clean pan with clean water (not water they use for other pastas) 3. Use clean untensils 4. Talk about thir sauces -- many red pasta sauces should be fine as wheat... -

ARCHIVED Thinking Of A Vegas Trip
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Moongirl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I always recommend the Tuscany Suites Hotel and Casino. Its on Flamingo and every room is a suite. The rates are reasonable (in Vegas terms for being on the strip). You will get much better rates Sunday - Thursday rather than the weekend. As far as places to eat, you have many choices. I like all of the restaurants in the Mirage (Samba Brazilian... -
ARCHIVED Jagermeister
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They sent me an email saying there was no gluten in their product. -
ARCHIVED Newbie Living In Alaska- Wanna Say Hello
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Yenni's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Jenny, Welcome to the board! A word to the wise regarding the Gluten Free Bible -- some posters here beleive that the book contains inaccuracies about food and the diet. I would recommend "Gluten Free for Dummies" by Dana Korn -- she is awesome. Also, to increase your education on new thoughts on Celiac and Non-Celiac gluten sensitivity, you... -
ARCHIVED What's With Kraft?!?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to JSmith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If there is gluten in Kraft, they will say it. It will say either "wheat", "barley", "rye", "oats", or "gluten" No reason to get in a fuss, Kraft is the leader (and unfortunately the exception) in food labeling. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Mexican Lasagna
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Jen0805's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make a similar dish and add diced chipotles and tapatio sauce -- the spice is just right then!!!!! -
Make sure to email the corporate office and tell them that you did not have the same experience as other people at Red Robin and you had hoped for a "consistent" product.

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone else know about Jennie-O's? My roommates package clearly lists wheat gluten as an ingredient... Just wondering if there were different types... Here is Hormel's list for Jennie-O products JENNIE-O TURKEY STORE -
ARCHIVED Cross-contamination
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wolfie, FYI, New research has indicated that there is no gluten in most bleu cheeses. I say "most" because som people have said they have encountered bleu cheese that had wheat in the label. I have never had a problem with bleu cheese and eat it religiously. -
ARCHIVED Bacon
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Eeyor, Have you checked Jennie-O's ingredients lately on their Turkey bacon?? It has wheat gluten listed in the ingredients (my roommate just bought some and I looked at it). I'm not trying to call you out, but it says "wheat gluten" right on the label. Also, Farmer John's bacon has soy sauce in it so it also has gluten. For me, there is NOTHING... -
I did it earlier this year. I did it for 12 weeks and lost 10-15 pounds. Granted, I already have a quasi-athletic build, but I became much stronger and had more energy in a long time. The diet can be adapted to gluten free easily. I highly recommend it.

I have been on Dapsone for 9 years with few ill effects. Admittedly, my DH has never gone away with a gluten free diet. Part of me is convinced I have other food allergies, I just have never tested positive for them. The only bad thing dapsone does to me is make me sensitive to sunlight (I burn easily). As long as you take Iron Supplements and abide...

ARCHIVED The Hospital Is Feeding My Child Gluten!
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Personally, I would send the dietician the link to this webpage, so he/she can see the outrage she is causing be her ignorance. "A little bit won't hurt her?" --- Simply amazing (and disgusting) -- has this person been trained in anything related to Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance?? It sounds like they got their training at a "fly-by-night" correspondence... -
ARCHIVED S'better Farms Corn Dogs
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In Vegas (and in So-Cal), they carry them at some Albertson's grocery stores. The S Bette Farms website has a listing of the grocerystores that carry their products (they also have chicken wings and chicken tenders) Open Original Shared Link
