ARCHIVED What Are Foods That We Would Like?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Neshy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A company like Chef Boy-R-Dee (but Gluten Free) -- Think of the possibilities... Also, gluten-free TV Dinners and MORE gluten-free Soup that tastes good. In my opinion, the restaurant thing can be solved via personal education --- if you want to learn about the inner workings of restaurants and dine successfully in them, you need to learn about... -
ARCHIVED Do Bacteria Cause Celiac Disease?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wonder how the "gene link" factors into this theory. Does the gene somehow "encourage" those beneficial bacteria to be able to fester in the intestine or does it somehow discourage beneficial bacteria to fester and/or promote malevolent bacteria to reproduce or is it separate. Interesting read. Right now, all they have are studies/stats to evaluate... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Guinsell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten Free Ham -- Most hams are gluten-free - just read the ingredients and call if you have an issue. I NEVER get deli sliced ham -- you are asking for trouble with cross contamination -- one eipe with a paper towel is not good enough for me. I always recommend Hormel's Cure 51 Ham -- best taste and always gluten-free -- really good for easter too (they... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have to admit...I have hjad mine since Christmas and I have been unable to figure it out... It is a Cuisinart and I looked at the directions on the bread mix and it baffles me how it "transfers" over to the machine... On mine, you open a "hatch" on top. Down below, there is a "pan" of sorts and an area below it. The "pan" looks to have a "mixer... -

ARCHIVED Question For Jenvan
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Agreed Don't assume that Prime Rib is safe. -- Check the marinades and spices. Also, the "Au Jus" can have gluten in it if it is "instant" -- I got sick from that once. Skip the veggies -- so not worth it...why get constipated over veggies??? -
ARCHIVED An Apology To Radman
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Rusla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it helps, I really don't blame the doctors, I blame the people who teach the doctors and the people who set up the curriculum as celiac disease used to be a one sentence blurb on a page. Hopefully, now that is changing in Med School. However, the GI's that don't accept new medical data on celiac disease deserve some lashings. ... -

ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Day
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
this is likely due to the head chef or kitchen manager telling the employees that Rice contains gluten. I have heard everything from that to the server saying that the sauce has vinegar so there is "micro-gluten" in it -- what the heck is that? LOL! In any event, it is nice that they are trying to learn, but I get tired of convincing them that I can... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The nuggets were "ok", the fish stic were pretty good! (I recommend baking them over "nuking", but isn't that always the case. ARCHIVED 3 Weeks G/f And Caved In Today
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't agree that it is natural and normal -- more like trial and error. At some point, you will make the decision to live life as healthy as possible and not even think about eating that poison. Its always tougher when you're a kid, but if your an adult, you know what to do and what not to do. Gluten Free for Life Baby -- There is no other option... -
