  1. I had a bacterial overgrowth years ago - I forget the test they ran now, but the target number was under 200 and I was at 12,000. Anyhow, I really, really, really did not want antibiotics (they don't discriminate and just go in and kill everybody) so I went to a nutritionist who suggested Colosan (I've mentioned it on here before). It is a magnesium oxide...
  2. If you take too much, yes. But at this level I've never had a problem. The daily dose for these particular tablets is 2 per day. I take one in the morning and one in the evening so that I'm not trying to absorb too much all at once, so that may help prevent getting too much magnesium all at once too.
  3. I'm in the US and two different doctors have told me my Vit D is ok at 49, but really should be closer to 55 or 60. This is also consistent with what I've read in various health books.
  4. If it were me I would have them run the full Celiac panel of bloodtests NOW. Regardless of how the biopsy comes back you're going to want the bloodtest. So why not get them both done now and then go gluten-free to see if you feel better? Once the bloodtests and the biopsy are out of the way I can't think of any reason why not to go ahead and go gluten...
  5. I have had "adult acne" since college - never had much of it as a teenager. I've tried many acne products and most just dried out my skin. I have had a really good experience with Proactive. Just a word of caution though... it does bleach clothing. So I only put it on my face in the morning, so that it doesn't bleach my clothes. I put it on my neck and...
  6. For $10k I'd insist on a brand-new, gold plated small intestine while they were in there. That's nuts! In my opinion, the biopsy for your 8 yr old is overkill - unless they have reason to be looking for other possible ailments. If she goes gluten-free and then continues to have problems they could do a biopsy then to check things out.
  7. If it were me... I'd agree with her. "Ya know... you could be right. You should try going gluten-free and see how much better you feel!" - I'm willing to bet that if she bothered to even try going gluten-free she would have herself convinced in no time that's there is no way she's gluten sensitive... because that would just be too hard. Maybe she'll move...
  8. It sounds like you could have Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. It's all the same symptoms as Celiac, but without the damage to the villi. But I agree that you should get a copy of your bloodtest results to see what tests they ran and what the actual numbers are.
  9. It sounds like you're off to a great start! My only suggestion is that if you're essentially only eating the same 5 foods every day you may want to try eating a greater variety of vegetables. Different veggies have different nutrients that your body needs - especially now - and it makes the gluten-free diet much more tollerable.
  10. From what I've gathered from others, the equivalent of two pieces of bread each day is what you need.
  11. Make sure to ask for the full panel of Celiac tests - not just one or two. tTG-IgA or tissue transglutaminase-IgA AGA-IgG or Antigliadin IgG AGA-IgA or Antigliadin IGA Total IGA Good luck!
  12. Snoopy happy dance... a.k.a. perfect poo dance ... (or Nana's OPP-dance) Open Original Shared Link
  13. I am not familiar with GERD, but for gas prevention I take Bean-Zyme. It is the same ingredients as "Beano", but gluten-free and cheaper than "Beano": Open Original Shared Link ("Beano" used to work well for me, but it says on the label that it may contain wheat.)
  14. I take this Thryoid Support supplement from Gaia: Open Original Shared Link (I contacted Gaia directly and they assured me they are completely gluten free.) I also take this Adrenal Support supplement: Open Original Shared Link I also take these digestive enzymes: Open Original Shared Link Only take digestive enzymes with food. I don't take...
  15. Hi Sarah - There are some benefits to getting tested... - you have an official diagnosis, which some people seem to need to have the motivation and will-power to stick to the gluten-free lifestyle - you have an official diagnosis, so future doctors cannot claim that it's all in your head and/or ignore your requests for gluten-free meds, etc...
  16. Having grown up on a farm, we refer to those as "Nanny Berries". Why? A "Nanny" is a mother goat (we had goats) and goats naturally poop out small, perfectly circular, berry-sized terds, in a little perfect pile. They look like dark brown berries... so "Nanny Berries".
  17. I take a Calcium/Magnesium/Potassium mix from Country Life: Open Original Shared Link From what I've read, your body needs Magnesium to absorb and use the Calcium.
  18. Moose - I understand the want - and need - to exercise and push yourself but I must echo what others are saying and kindly advise you to slow it down. Your body needs whatever nutrients it can absorb right now to facilitate the healing process. If you use up your nutrients working out, trying to build muscle, etc. you are likely to take much longer to heal...
  19. Just wanted to add that 1) you need to check your supplements carefully to make sure they are gluten-free, and 2) you may want to try a digestive enzyme. While you're healing your body may not be able to break down your food so that it is too hard for your body to digest/absorb much of it. Digestive enzymes can be very helpful with this. Also, to echo...
  20. I don't know if this is really true or just another urban legend that got propagated via the Internet, but someone claiming to be the mother of a soldier overseas said that they have been used to plug wounds on the battlefield in an emergency when that was all that was within reach.
  21. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but make sure you continue to eat gluten until after your bloodtest. If you go gluten-free the test is useless. Good luck!
  22. Don't know if this would be enough to solve the rash problem, but I have found my skin is much happier in the winter if I keep a humidifier going - especially in the bedroom at night (I use a cool-air one). I have also found that Curel lotion is wonderful.
  23. From what I understand, a positive biopsy means you have Celiac. There seems to be some disagreement about how reliable the bloodtests are but I know some have reported negative bloodtests with a positive biopsy as well as "borderline" bloodtest results that rely on the doctor making the right call. The true test will be if you go completely, 100% gluten...
  24. I've been to Arizona twice in my life - both times I got eczema on both hands that immediately went away once I came home. The first time it happened I went to Urgent Care because I had no idea what it was and thought maybe I had gotten bitten by one of the many critters that live there. The doctor told me it was because of the extreme climate change (I...
  25. Yesterday I was telling my mom about this conversation, the amazing feedback/contributions and humor, as well as braggin a bit about a graduate class I just completed. "Kicked ass in my class and my poo is perfect!" It was a good day!
