  1. It's been 10 weeks of gluten free My poo has finally sunk for me I'm feelin' so very healthy Take that you Celiac!
  2. Somebody "in there" must have heard me complaining because it has started to sink! Two days ago it was half of it... this morning the whole thing!! (and I haven't made any diet changes)
  3. Whether it is likely for the test to come back negative depends on several factors - how many antibodies were in your system before you went gluten-free (assuming there were any), how long you were gluten-free, how efficient your body is at getting rid of the antibodies, etc. You'll just have to wait and see what the test results are. As far as the biopsy...
  4. You can have a negative bloodtest and still have Celiac. You could also be either gluten sensitive or have non-celiac gluten intolerance. The only way to know for sure if you fall into this category (as far as I know) is to go completely, 100% gluten-free and see if your symptoms go away. As far as the liver bloodtests, if it were me I would go ahead and...
  5. Unfortunately the whole "gluten-free thing" is not the only thing that people do not understand and take issues with. Many members of the general population take issue with anything that is not like they are - regardless of what it is. So for me, I don't see this as anything special. People get their panties in a bunch if you drive faster than they do...
  6. Just wanted to add that yes, one of you must have the genes that predispose you to Celiac, but that does not mean that you actually have Celiac or even that you ever will. It is estimated that approximately 30 to 40% of the population has the genes, but only about 1% of the population actually gets Celiac.
  7. The problem with diagnosing Celiac based on symptoms is that every symptom has other potential causes and then there are those of us who have no symptoms at all. That said, what you experienced is not outside the realm of Celiac. It could be that your bout of stomach flu triggered the Celiac symptoms. It is good that you're getting tested. Then you'll...
  8. It's great to hear you're feeling better! As far as the genetic test - it does not actually test for Celiac Disease. It tests for the genetic markers for Celiac. There are two genes that they test for: HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 If you don't have the genes, you cannot get Celiac (although I think there have been a couple of people on this forum who have tested...
  9. I'm not sure what your doctor meant by "don't go overboard". You have to go 100% gluten-free. Does your daughter need to live in a bubble? No. But getting little bits of gluten from time to time is out of the question. Whether she shows outward symptoms or not. Because a little bit of gluten still triggers the antibody production, which causes damage...
  10. Oh good... I came to the same conclusion. No gluten. As I said, I was just sharing this for those on here who have an issue with corn.
  11. This site explains who should get tested for Celiac: Open Original Shared Link It includes a list of ailments that are commonly associated with Celiac. If you have family members with these various issues, it could very well be that there is Celiac in your family and no one ever knew. Aside from that I just want to echo Gemini - it's pretty definite...
  12. That's awesome... brave woman... but that's awesome!
  13. Do you mean the corn starch is a myth too?
  14. Yes. The lab that did my bloodtest considered anything over 11 as a positive. I was at 13. They did the biopsy and found moderate to severe villi damage. So I have no faith in the "weak positive" thing. As far as I'm concerned... positive is positive.
  15. So last night I'm filliing out all of my Christmas cards and as I was about to lick the first envelope... I paused. Since my diagnosis I pause pretty much every time I'm about to put something in my mouth. So I Googled it... does envelope glue have gluten in it? I didn't find any seemingly "expert" sources, but it seems that the general consensus is that...
  16. The only recommendation I've seen is for folks doing a gluten challenge after an extended period of time of being gluten-free. I was never a big bread and pasta person, but did consume gluten daily in other foods (e.g. soy sauce) and my bloodtest came back positive. However, it was a "low positive". I think it takes quite awhile for the antibodies to get...
  17. Before my diagnosis I was starting to get weird mood swings that were very uncharacteristic for me. I am going into the whole pre-menapausal thing so I figured it was just hormonal. I would wake up some days extremely angry. Like ready to kill angry. Then one day I had a crying fit - for no reason - that was so volitile (for lack of a better word) that...
  18. SHOCKING!!! <not> Doctors are trained to treat symptoms, not causes. The theory is that if the symptom goes away then that must mean the underlying cause went away. So not true... I really hate doctors. Unfortunately they are at times a necessary evil.
  19. I would call the doctor and ask them to explain this to you. It looks like they only ran one test. For what it's worth, you don't have to have intestinal symptoms to have Celiac. I didn't have any symptoms at all. That said, if you do not have Celiac you may still benefit from the gluten-free diet. The only way to know for sure is to try it. But to...
  20. Excellent! Mission accomplished!!
  21. Don't be too hard on yourself... it may not really be laziness but simply that you don't have the energy. Even when you eat you're not absorbing all of your food, so you don't get enough nutrients, so you're tired and have low energy - that's what has happened to me - much more before my diagnosis though. Try to have other, more nutritious, quick food...
  22. Welcome to the forum, Frosty! I've never noticed a correlation between an empty stomach or a full stomach and bloating. It has always been related to whatever I last ate... regardless of how long ago that was. My guess is that your gut is still healing and needs some help. Try a good probiotic - meaning one with several different strains of good bacteria...
  23. I've never seen any documentation linking the two... but I have had eczema on my hands. It popped up twice - the two times I went to Arizona (I grew up in central New York state and now live in New Jersey). The doctor there gave me some steroid crème and said it was likely due to the extreme change in climate. I came home, it immediately went away. As ...
  24. Irish - I love it!!
