  1. Hi Msafford and Welcome! Many people report feeling better right away as soon as they go gluten-free and yes, even a tiny bit of gluten can cause a severe reaction once you have it out of your system. I am a bit surprised that it would give you a reaction after being gluten free for just 3 days, but everyone is different. Some people start to feel worse...
  2. Congratulations!! Giving up dairy would definitely be much harder for me than giving up gluten.
  3. When I had my endoscopy to confirm the Celiac I had already gone gluten-free - for only about 3 weeks. So I'm in the recovery room and they offer me gluten-free cookies - which actually weren't half bad. The nurse is chatting with me and asks me what my symptoms were before going gluten-free. I told her I didn't have any symptoms, I had only requested...
  4. Thanks LauraTX. I have seen quite a few gluten-free items that are also Kosher, but not prepared meals (which I don't usually eat, so I've never looked for them). Cooking it myself isn't an option in this case - so it had to be something I could just pop in the oven or microwave. Luckily, they carry Amy's products at Whole Foods and there's a Whole Foods...
  5. Yes! Something like this is what I was looking for. Thank you!
  6. Will you mom read and believe documentation? There's a lot of information on the Mayo Clinic website as well as others that provide medically-proven information on Celiac. There are books available too. How soon will you be 18? Once you're legally considered an adult you should be able to go to the doctor without your mother and advocate for yourself...
  7. No - she's very strict. She doesn't even let other people who keep Kosher bring food into her house because many of them in her words "don't do it right". Bringing my own food is absolutely not an option - which is why I was thinking of a Kosher, gluten-free prepared meal.
  8. What she said. What symptoms did you have before going gluten-free? Did they go away? Not all Celiacs have symptoms - I was one of the asymptomatic folks. But if you had symptoms, went gluten-free, and your symptoms went away... That kinda confirms it.
  9. Hi and Welcome to the Forum! I agree that you should request the full blood panel of tests - but you can't go gluten-free before all testing is complete. FWIW... the cut-off for my lab for the ttg iga was 11. I was at 13. Some would call that a "weak positive". I too had moderate to severe villi damage - found via the endoscopy. As far as I'm concerned...
  10. A friend of mine keeps Kosher and does not allow non-Kosher food in her house. I don't eat food prepared in a non-gluten free kitchen by anyone who thinks they understand gluten-free but clearly doesn't get the extent of cross-contamination issues that exist. (Teaching her or cooking with her to ensure my safety is not an option for reasons I'd really rather...
  11. Hi JTS and Welcome to the Forum! (If you don't get many direct responses to your question, you may want to try starting your own thread - even though your question is closely related to the OP's.) That said, it sounds like you may have other food intolerances going on - you already mentioned corn. Are you sure you have gotten all of the corn out...
  12. I've taken Smooth Move tea on occasion (although not in quite some time) and never had an issue with it. IMO (and I'm no doctor), it is not the same as taking a harsh, chemical stimulant. It's all-natural herb ingredients that you would eat in other foods. My suggestion would be to make a weak cup to try first. And don't take it every day or in combination...
  13. Welcome to the Forum! I agree with GottaSki that your daughter's symptoms defininitely fit Celiac and she should have the full panel of blood work done. And while I don't have kids myself, I just wanted to add that I believe testing in young children can be trickier than it is in adults because they may not be old enough to have produced enough antibodies...
  14. I just wanted to clarify this a bit for the new folks so as not to confuse or scare anyone... I believe what Nick is referring to is the possibility of cross-contamination with some products. In some cases, there may not be any gluten-containing ingredients on the label but certain ingredients may be processed on equipment that is also used to process something...
  15. This may help a bit: Open Original Shared Link (sorry... ordinarily I'd summarize the important parts and post them directly but I'm in a rush at the moment)
  16. Wow... that sounds positively awful! I'm just wondering if you've ever tried an elimination diet to see if you might be intolerant to something else. Seems like having other food issues is common with Celiacs.
  17. I agree that you should get a copy of your test results, but IMO... with a ttg Iga over 300 it almost doesn't matter. You have Celiac. Its good to get the biopsy to get an idea of the extent of the damage and they'll also check for other stuff - just to make sure Celiac is the only thing going on.
  18. Nope - these deviled eggs were made by me. And I live alone in a 100% gluten-free apartment.
  19. Exactly the response I was hoping for. Thanks! (didn't want to be scared of the deviled eggs)
  20. Because I don't have any issues with soy, corn, or eggs. I don't use mayo very often - in fact I usually end up throwing out at least 3/4 of the jar because it expires while sitting in the fridge. But I read where there can be cross-contamination issues with mustard seed powder (not sure if this is different than "mustard flour") and just wanted to see...
  21. Have you looked into the Nutribullet? My mother has been going through some extensive dental issues and has been on pretty much a liquid diet for about a year and has great results with it. You can put pretty much anything in there. Also, take a look at Designer Whey. It is whey protein, which is a dairy derivative but from what I've read it seems many...
  22. While I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I cannot eat fruit or veggies by themselves because they seem to be just enough to wake up my stomach - but not fill it. I have to eat a good portion of protein on a regular basis or I feel ravenous. I also tend to get low blood sugar if I don't include protein with my meal. Digestive enzymes seem to help me too - my...
  23. If they make their own pizza dough, just be aware that flour can hang around in the air for hours (from what I've heard anyways - maybe someone else on here has heard differently?) - and if you breathe in the flour it gets to the back of your throat and you end up swallowing it. So you don't want to walk in an area where there has been flour in the air.
  24. Anyone have any trouble with Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard? It doesn't have any suspicious ingredients in it, but it isn't labeled gluten-free either.
