  1. You may want to try keeping a food diary. Eat simple foods for a few days that are highly unlikely to be an allergen - maybe foods you don't typically eat. See if you can pinpoint a specific trigger. Also, take it easy on raw veggies and too much roughage - your gut is healing and needs to be treated delicately until it has a change to repair.
  2. The ttg iga is one of the more accurate tests. However, you should request a full Celiac panel which includes the following: Total Serum IgA tTG-IgA tTG-IgG EMA-IgA DGP-IgA DGP-IgG
  3. From what I understand of NCGI, you can get all of the same symptoms and issues that folks with Celiac can get. The only difference is that the blood test and biopsy are negative. (If there are other differences, hopefully someone more knowledgable about NCGI will chime in here). And by all means, post your test results. You should probably start a new...
  4. Hi Julsmcy and Welcome! With a ttg iga of 53, when anything over 15 is considered positive (if I'm reading that right) - you have Celiac. And most likely you're still getting gluten from somewhere. w8in4dave is correct - gluten free means gluten free. 100%. No cheating. Even if you aren't having symptoms, you're doing damage to your insides by eating...
  5. There is absolutely no way a doctor can say 100% anything based on the Celiac blood tests. They simply just aren't that accurate. False positives are much more rare, but false negatives are not particularly uncommon. And then there is always non-Celiac gluten intolerance, in which the tests come back negative but you still get all the symptoms and still...
  6. Hi LittleMama and Welcome! If you get symptoms from getting accidentally glutened, then you can rest assured that you have either Celiac or non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. Your son's symptoms sure do sound like probable Celiac. I agree with GreenBeanie that additional tests to rule out other ailments would be a good idea - but with the family medical...
  7. There's nothing I know of that makes it go away. Plenty of rest, water, and mild foods seem to be best. I think the mild, easily digested foods are important even if there are no visible digestive symptoms, because the gut has still been irritated by the gluten (but that's just me hypothesizing). Unfortunately, it's a bit like getting food poisoning or...
  8. Yep... saying you're "weakly positive" is like saying you're "weakly pregnant". My ttg iga was only 13 on a test that considered anything over 11 to be positive - so "weakly positive". However, the biopsy showed visible inflammation and moderate to severe villi damage. While no one likes to hear they have Celiac, at least now you know what it is and the...
  9. I don't worry about the gluten in the fish food... I'm in the habit of washing my hands every time I touch the fish tank anyhow - even if it's just to lift the lid to feed them. Fish carry bacteria and even TB, so it's a good idea to wash your hands anyhow.
  10. Too funny... I did the out loud, "oh my god!" the first time I spied the gluten-free pretzels... and again when I discovered that after 5 months of eating absolutely no bread or pasta, the Schar Ciabatta rolls are actually pretty awesome. Yes, they are $5 for 4 rolls... but they're still awesome...
  11. My mother gets itchy, crawly sensations on her back when she eats oats. Even certified gluten-free oats. Neither her or my uncle can tolerate oats (both have Celiac), so I haven't touched them since going gluten free.
  12. Congratulations! That's awesome! (I'm only 6 months in myself.)
  13. On the rare occassion that I eat out I tell the waitress flat out - "I'm not one of those annoying people who order gluten free because they think it's cool. I will actually get very sick if I get so much as a crumb, so please let the folks in the kitchen know."
  14. I find it a relief to have a completely gluten-free kitchen too. I read every label in the grocery store and make sure not to bring any cooties into my apartment. Then I can relax and eat whatever I want and not think twice about it. I would think having to second-guess food and prep surfaces every time you want to eat something would be a lot of added...
  15. Hi Christina and Welcom to the forum! Whether or not to get the biopsy is really a personal decision. However, keep in mind that they check for other issues that may be going on - not just Celiac. So there could be an added benefit to letting the doctor have a look around and run the tests on the biopsies. Also... and this is just a thought... an official...
  16. I don't honestly know exactly how that works - hopefully someone more knowledgable about NCGI can chime in here. However, as most of the symptoms and related ailments are thought to be connected to malabsorption issues, and NCGI folks can get many if not all of the same symptoms as Celiac folks... I'm thinking it's more than just villi damage that's going...
  17. If you're open to trying natural remedies, regular exercise is reported to really help people with POTS. This site suggests starting with recumbant exercises so you don't have to try to stand to exercise for at least the first couple of months: Open Original Shared Link I know some of the natural stuff can be a bit out there... and I'm not sure I would...
  18. I completely agree - VERY annoying. I look at it like this... We're right. We're getting healthy. They're ignorant. One day Karma will get them, one way or another. In the meantime, we're getting healthy. We win. So fooey on them... and their gluteny, foggy, ill-thinking brains.
  19. Hi NurseSati and Welcome to the forum! Whether or not to get an endoscopy and biopsy is a personal decision and one only you can make for yourself. However, there is an additional benefit to having the biopsy, as they will test for other possible issues that could be either causing your symptoms or going on in addition to the Celiac.
  20. Keep in mind that there is also non-Celiac gluten intolerance. The blood work and biopsy will be negative but you get to experience a lot of the other symptoms. There's no test for NCGI other than going gluten free and seeing if your symptoms go away. Then if your symptoms come back when you reintroduce gluten and go away again when you go gluten free...
  21. Yep - the one time I got glutened I tried to go to work the next day and was in a meeting and realized I couldn't track any of the conversation and couldn't put my words together coherently. It only lasted for that day but it was pretty scary.
  22. Hi Fenrir and Welcome! Actually... if you have Celiac you sound just like pretty much everyone else here. Nothing about your case sounds odd. Many of your symptoms sound extremely familiar - and there are a few folks on here that have had to have their gallbladder removed. Do you know which tests they ran for Celiac? That isn't something that typically...
  23. Luckily I have had little need to take any medications since going gluten free (its only been 6 months) but I haven't had any issues. From what I've read, the name-brand prescription drugs are safe if you contact the manufacturer and they verify it to be gluten free. However, the generics get their filler ingredients from various suppliers and they can...
  24. Yep - day-to-day I'm fine with this whole thing. But it's the not being able to eat out safely that gets me now and then. Every once in a blue moon it's nice to be too busy and tired to cook and just stop by Pizza Hut on the way home - or KFC. Or be at a mall for a few hours and get hungry and grab a bite somewhere. There is a certified gluten free Italian...
  25. Hi Captain Jack and Welcome to the Forum! Argh! Nutrient deficiencies are common but not required. I have always been "borderline" anemic, but still in the normal range - the doctors always just said that was typical for a skinny white woman. I have never had any other nutrient deficiencies or even borderline bloodtest results. Even my Vitamin D levels...
