  1. Ditto. Rest, water, and patience. And eat mild, easily digested food in small portions. Even if she doesn't get gastrointestinal systems, it is very much like recovering from a flu bug.
  2. Wow. People that call themselves vegetarian and still eat fish annoy the hell out of me. (Personally I could never survive as a vegetarian... but don't be fake about it.) And anyone who is Celiac - or calls themselves Celiac - and then orders a regular wrap deserves what they get. Part of me hopes she was up half the night running to the bathroom...
  3. Happy Birthday! It sounds to me like you have a really good plan. When they bring the gluten pizza I would have a separate table - or a separate end of the table - for it and even say to them as they walk in the door... Please put that over here in the gluten area so that we don't cross-contaminate the gluten-free. If they want to know what cross-contaminate...
  4. If it makes you feel any better, they don't use general anesthesia for an endoscopy. It is an IV sedation. So for example, you're still breathing on your own. And the wake-up process is really quick.
  5. This will either help, or give you a headache: http://www.jbiomedsci.com/content/19/1/88 Just one word of caution... approximately 30% of the general population has at least one of the precursor genes for Celiac. Only about 1% actually develop Celiac.
  6. Good for you! You cannot go through life worrying about what others will do or say or think. Especially when it's your health and ultimately your life that is on the line!
  7. This may sound completely off the wall... and this is just me hypothesizing again because that's just how my mind works. But do you think it's possible that the general inflammation that occurred because of the gluten ingestion could have been masking some of the joint pain? (I know inflammation often causes joint pain.. so maybe this doesn't even make...
  8. Hi Huxleberry and Welcome to the Forum! My first thought when I read your list of symptoms that you've had since diagnosis is that you are still getting gluten in your diet from somewhere. Especially the shivers, light-headedness, and lethargy. This sounds like what happens to me when I get glutened. Re-check all of the labels on everything you eat...
  9. Just wanted to add that it is common to have a negative biopsy because the inflammation and damage can be spotty and easily missed. Also, many Celiacs do not have GI symptoms. I did not have any symptoms at all and only got tested because Celiac runs in the family. My blood work was positive and the biopsy showed moderate to severe villi damage. So don...
  10. Hi Matt and Welcome to the Forum - I agree with the others that you should have the full Celiac panel of blood tests done again - as long as you are still eating gluten. While some researchers are now claiming that you cannot have Celiac if you don't have at least one of the two known genes, there are people who do not have either of those genes who...
  11. I had no idea that D3 came from wool. Anyhow... I did find this information regarding Source of Life Vit D that claims to be vegan and contain D3 from mushrooms... although there is some question about how they get the mushrooms to produce D3: Open Original Shared Link However, be careful of the D2 - which is synthetic and apparently not useable by the...
  12. I would not let anyone who says "it sounds gluten free to me" cook anything for me. I would take my own food and not be concerned in the least if she got offended. How offended would she be if you spent the evening monopolizing her bathroom because you got glutened? Or throwing up in the kitchen sink because that was as far as you got away from the table...
  13. Part of how far you need to go also depends on whether your kitchen is gluten free now or not. A new, gluten-free toaster and colander are a must either way - there's just no way to get them completely clean of gluten. I also got rid of the few wooden spoons I had because they get cracks in them and who knows what's hiding in there. You also need to do...
  14. My uncle was diagnosed with Celiac over 15 years ago and my aunt keeps a mixed kitchen - gluten and non-gluten. She does not separate plastic utensils or plastic storage containers and my uncle does not get cross-contaminated. And he is very sensitive. The plastic stuff just needs to be washed well between uses.
  15. Runny nose and itchy red bumps sounds more like an allergic reaction to me.
  16. I've taken my chances with veggies, cheese, chips, etc. So far they have not come back to bite me. Single food items that basically come out of a package and onto the serving tray - to include some summer sausage, etc (for that I check the label first). My friends tend to have a cutting board that they just use for fresh fruits/veggies and never use for...
  17. Just wanted to add that if you have Celiac and were ingesting gluten (prior to diagnosis) then you haven't really been taking these vitamins that long. Well... not absorbing them, anyhow. My point is - don't be too hard on yourself and your body. It hasn't been able to take full advantage of the food and supplements you've been feeding it because of the...
  18. I still have the pictures that were taken during my endoscopy of the inflammation in my small intestine up my refridgerator. Edited to add: I should probably take those down before the movers get here in a few weeks...
  19. Hi AlexDAK and Welcome! Your symptoms do certainly sound like Celiac. It is not uncommon to be positive on one or two of the Celiac blood tests and negative on the others - that's actually why it is so important to run all of them. It isn't too late to request a biopsy to confirm it - but there is always a chance of getting a false negative from the...
  20. Hi Jmg and Welcome! The question of whether to pursue testing is a personal one that really only you can answer for yourself. All we can really do is give you some pros and cons - which it sounds like you've likely read already on other, similar threads. Your doctor is wrong about the 6 days being enough to show up on the test (but at least he admitted...
  21. This is facinating because I'm finding the opposite to be true. Before going gluten free I started having perimenapause symptoms... mostly night sweats and not really hot flashes, but just noticing that heat bothers me more. Like my body had a harder time keeping my internal temp down. I've been gluten free for 6 months and the night sweats have stopped...
  22. No need to get snarky and defensive... I was simply asking a question. Did he address this or not? Simple question. This is new research results which contradicts previous understanding... I'm simply curious and wanting to know more about it.
  23. Wine. One of the few things you can trust implicitly without having to read the label. Why in bloody hell do they have to put %$@# WHEAT in probiotics in the first place??
  24. Keep in mind that blood loss is not the only cause of anemia. Check this site out... it may lead you to a another possible underlying cause: Open Original Shared Link
  25. Did he explain how very young children can develop it... given that they are not likely to have experienced any of these triggers?
