ARCHIVED New W/ Unexplained Symptoms....burping...questions?
NoGlutenCooties replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did respond to this question on the other thread, but I also found this extensive list of things that can cause excessive burping: Open Original Shared Link If all of these have been ruled out, I think the 3 month trial would be a good idea. Gluten is a more common sensitivity than people realize. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms...possible Gluten Issue?
NoGlutenCooties replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well... not having the gene can rule out Celiac. Almost. There are a couple of people who don't have either of the known "Celiac genes" but have still tested positive for Celiac. Having one or more of the genes does make you more predisposed to getting Celiac.... but about 30% of the population has at least one of the genes. And only about 1% actually... -
ARCHIVED This Is Down To Being Glutened Isn't Is?
NoGlutenCooties replied to Birdsong's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep - typically when I've gotten them I do the cranberry juice and Vitamin C thing. I'll have to check out the D-Mannose - never heard of it. But with any luck I actually won't get them anymore! And I agree that it most likely has a lot to do with PH balance... which has got to be much improved since going gluten free! <insert Snoopy happy-dance... -
Correct. Just to clarify... this was based on positive blood work and family history PLUS the obvious inflammation. They did still send the biopsies to confirm and to rule out other causes. My point was just that sometimes there is visible inflammation and sometimes there isn't.

ARCHIVED Anyone With Nerve Issues?
NoGlutenCooties replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I grew up on a small farm and we had goats. Very cute and friendly. Very smelly... but very cute. I always thought the goat's milk tasted the way a goat smells. What they ate always effected the taste of the milk too... I remember if they got into the daisies their milk would be very bitter. My sister and I let one of the big nanny goats into the house... -

OMG! I had no idea that UTIs could be associated with gluten issues. I get UTIs fairly regularly, although they've only been bad enough and lasted long enough for me to break down and take an antibiotic for it twice in my lifetime (I HATE antibiotics!!!). If going gluten-free means that I may not have to deal with them anymore, you just made my day! -
I was lucky in that when I had my biopsy my small intestine was visibly inflamed (I have the pictures) and the doc told me she could tell that I have Celiac without even having to wait for the results to come back. However, the inflammation can come and go and even when it's there it can be spotty and easily missed. So I'm not surprised that in your case...

ARCHIVED Work Cafeteria Asking For Suggestions - Please Help With Ideas
NoGlutenCooties replied to Nikki2777's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds great! I really hope more and more people like that start to surface. So many just don't get it... it's refreshing to see that some people are willing to learn and do it right. Congrats! -
ARCHIVED Ocd/gad And Ncgi/celiac?
NoGlutenCooties replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ditto what they said. The one time I got glutened I was exhausted for about a week. But I noticed my mood was off for quite a bit longer than that. Impatient, quick to anger, even quick to get emotional over silly stuff. My mother has finally figured out that she too has Celiac and I've noticed a change in her demeanor too. She used to fret and worry... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get A Fever When Glutened?
NoGlutenCooties replied to kb27's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This question intrigued me so I did a few quick searches and found this: Open Original Shared Link According to this, it isn't impossible to get a fever from getting glutened but it is extremely rare. It is much more likely to be a bug or food poisoning. -
That's exactly how I feel. I was asymptomatic when I was diagnosed but since being gluten free my mood is better, I sleep better, and I can get in a really really good work out and come out feeling strong instead of beat-up. For not knowing anything was wrong with me before the difference is pretty amazing.

I would not trust them to make a sandwich - for all of the reasons others have mentioned. Most deli meat isn't safe, some sliced cheese isn't safe, and if they're getting crumbs in the container of mayo, the shredded lettuce, the tomatoes, and whatever else then you're done for. That said, if you can tolerate dairy they can stock single-serve cottage cheese... -
ARCHIVED Need Encouragement
NoGlutenCooties replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had an overgrowth of bad bacteria years ago - no one mentioned "SIBO" but it was determined via a stool test. The normal number for the bad bacteria was under 200 and I was at over 12,000. I had absolutely no interest in antibiotics as they do not discriminate and just kill everybody and I blame them for the problem in the first place. The chiropractor... -
ARCHIVED Question About Weight Loss...
NoGlutenCooties replied to lrmilas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
According to the Mayo Clinic (Open Original Shared Link) unexplained weight loss can be caused by a number of things: No. 1: Unexplained weight loss Losing weight without trying might sound like a dream come true, but in reality it can signal a health problem. If you've lost up to 10 percent of your weight during the past six months — for instance, ...- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Say You Have Celiac Without Dx
NoGlutenCooties replied to patz16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ah... yes - I have an official diagnosis. My mother however does not. But she tells people she has Celiac - they don't need to know that it was self-diagnosed. -
ARCHIVED New Here And Struggling
NoGlutenCooties replied to Celiacandme's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would say yes. Because your body isn't just reacting to the presence of antibodies, it is dealing with severe nutrient deficiencies. So just like it takes a starvation victim time to get back to normal, it takes awhile to fully heal from having Celiac.- 17 replies

ARCHIVED Never Tested....and Wish I Had
NoGlutenCooties replied to Wakingup's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you stopped eating gluten and now get sick when you eat it then you have your diagnosis. All that is unknown is whether you have Celiac or non-Celiac gluten intolerance. But if it's NCGI, this is the only test for it anyhow (that I know of). By eating gluten you are literally killing yourself from the inside out. -
ARCHIVED Results
NoGlutenCooties replied to 124chicksinger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't have any added hunger or craving issues either. I've only been gluten free for coming up on 6 months and just had my first gluten-free roll a couple of weeks ago. That was the first I even wanted anything close to bread. Consider yourself to be very lucky... some people seem to have horrible withdrawal. Oh... and of course you're welcome here... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms...possible Gluten Issue?
NoGlutenCooties replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What GFinDC said. Keep in mind that many of the issues caused by Celiac are actually caused by the malabsorption that results from Celiac. So you're basically a starvation victim because you haven't been absorbing nutrients out of your food. So pretty much anything that can be caused by a nutrient deficiency can be caused by Celiac. -
ARCHIVED New Here - Not Sure What I've Got!
NoGlutenCooties replied to lrmilas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and Welcome to the Forum - First, I'm so sorry for your loss and for what you've been going through. Your symptoms do sound like Celiac - but diagnosing Celiac or non-Celiac gluten intolerance can be tricky. Especially with non-Celiac gluten intolerance because there's no test for it other than going gluten-free and feeling better and then reintroducing...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED When Is It The Proper Clinical Context?
NoGlutenCooties replied to NoGrainNoPain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and Welcome to the Forum! I have no idea what "In the proper clinical context" means. But the nurse who thinks you can't have Celiac because you don't have any symptoms is completely uninformed and doesn't know what she's talking about. Many folks with Celiac are completely asymptomatic. I was one of them. My biopsy showed moderate to severe villi... -
ARCHIVED What Could Cause Elevated Igg And Iga In Toddler Other Then Celiac?
NoGlutenCooties replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't have kids myself, but I know I read that it can be difficult to diagnose Celiac in children and it is not uncommon for the biopsy to come back negative simply because they haven't been alive long enough for the damage to be significant. There is a section in the forums dedicated to kids and kid-specific issues that you may want to check out. -
ARCHIVED Validation Of Celiac Screen Results
NoGlutenCooties replied to seagullc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Seagull and Welcome! First, if you were eating gluten regularly before then and were only gluten-free for 3 days then it shouldn't make a difference. However... it sounds like they only ran one test. There are a group of tests that should be run, to include Deamidated Gliadin Antibody IgA, Deamidated Gliadin Antibody IgG, Tissue Transglutaminase... -
ARCHIVED I Am A Miserable Mess After Eating Out Last Night
NoGlutenCooties replied to Wakingup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have only eaten out a couple of times since my diagnosis and it scares me to death. I don't eat anything fixed by someone who thinks they can fix gluten-free in a non-gluten-free kitchen. Even my aunt, whose brother (my uncle) was diagnosed with Celiac 15 years ago swears she can cook gluten-free meals for us. Then she happened to make the comment, ... -
ARCHIVED Am I Too Sensitive?
NoGlutenCooties replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a bit of a smart-ass but the first things that come to mind would be to say something like, "Well... I may have Celiac but all I have to do is not eat gluten. You're ugly. Nothing you can eat to fix that." - or - "Yep... it's all fun and games until I end up in the hospital... how will you feel for being such an ass then?" - or - "So if I had cancer...
