  1. Sugar is a curious and sometimes dangerous thing.....since I've all but cut it out, things like those muffins taste very (actually too) sweet to me now. I already halved the amount in the original, and still.....I also have to keep track of my blood pressure, per my internist, and find that it greatly affects the numbers. I'm not clear on exactly why, but...
  2. I hope you've hit the nail on the head--those fake dyes can wreak havoc I love Whole Foods, although many's the time I go in there for a few Lara bars or sumphin and come out with 2 bags totaling $75!
  3. Believe it or not, I ate a total of 3 yesterday and 2 this morning for breakfast and things could have not gone better in the bathroom! Flax is supposed to be good for "IBS"--and so far it's living up to it's word. (and I am prone to D--never C) I think the idea is that the soluble fiber absorbs excess fluid in the digestive tract and that people with...
  4. I think applesauce would work particularly well with the flavor--I was thinking of trying that next time too since I really like to stay away from sugar. I was surprised at how fluffy the seeds got when I ground them up--very workable as a "flour". Can nae believe all the snaugh up north!! Both me kids don't have work today--I'm so relieved they don...
  5. I looked at the old oat bran muffin recipe and a couple flax muffin recipes and this is what I came up wif: Flaxseed Muffins 1 1/2 cups ground flax seed 1/2 cup brown sugar (next time, I'm trying 1/4 cup--these were plenty sweet) 1 tbsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 cup milk 1 egg 1 tbsp. vanilla Pre-heat...
  6. Phlax muffin report!! These are good. Much better than with oat bran. They're still warm, so the texture is more moist than cake-y, but they are delicious. I had 2.....hopefully that wasn't too much fiber to begin with
  7. After that, send 'em here. I miss having kids at home.
  8. <snort> I decided to give the flax a whirl--literally (in the coffee grinder--get it?? ) Anywho, I doctored up the basic, formerly oat bran, recipe wif cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Cut the brown sugar in half. They look and smell really good. Keep yer phingers crossed I would like this to work since 1) I bought all these (expensive...
  9. Can't do oats, Ra-shell. But thanks I think I'm gonna grind up enough for one batch and go fer it. .....as soon as I get the hang of this grinder......
  10. Ok gang....I have a 3 pound bag of golden flax seeds and a new little Krups coffee bean grinder in front of me and I'm pondering how to proceed. I'm trying to come up wif a good recipe for flax muffins--like the old Quaker oat bran recipe that soaked up the cholesterol. Back in the day, I ate two of those every morning and my number went from 288 to 19...
  11. I'm no expert on the subject, but I eat very few grains and little sugar. My digestion works better this way, my weight is normalizing, and my blood pressure is down to a good normal. I don't cut them completely, maybe once a week or so I'll have gluten-free pizza or something like that. I take a good multivitamin, calcium/D, and separate vitamin D...
  12. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!!! Dang irritating....
  13. Yep--I keep phorgetting but don't give up the job you love! What a blessing to be able to do something you love and get paid for it
  14. Oh Nik, I'm so sorry about yer mum's fall...I understand how shaken up you had to be seeing her like that People mean the best when they "don't want to worry us" but yeah, it's frustrating. Several years ago, my MIL was in Florida and became so ill she had to be taken to the hospital--ended up having a kidney removed. Didn't call any of her kids for the...
  15. Jeeze--I don't doubt it!! I phigured it was sumphin like that.....annoying when life gets in the way of sillie.... Yes!! We must have a Sam Hill Houston Manhead ho'tub!! Ra-shell can make the chocolate cocktails!!
  16. I've been gluten-free for almost 5 years (and am rather sensitive still) and towels are not something that I worry about. My husband has a few gluten containing foods in the house--prepared stuff like cereal, cookies, and crackers. If he's just had something like that and washes his hands, he just throws the towel he used in the wash. I don't believe that...
