  1. First -- I love the name EvilGut! How perfect "considering". I laughed. Anyway, I gained about 10 pounds almost immediately after going gluten-free. I am a celiac who was never underweight--always a bit over (10-15lbs.) As far as the gluten-free diet, I've been on it (and dairy free) for 4+ mos. It's not bad at all--there are a lot of things you can...
  2. I threw out all of my lipsticks, haircare products, washes etc. that had wheat in them shortly after going gluten-free. I didn"t realize at the time how important that was but I was still getting symptoms and tossing the offending things really made a difference. The eczema I had on my eyelid for YEARS has finally subsided -- although that took a couple...
  3. I always had a "sensitive stomach" for as far back as I remember but never sought medical treatment. In the spring of '04 (after surgery for gyno. problem) I began to have urgent, frequent D, Severe brain fog and anxiety, tingling in my face, a strange feeling in my forearms and pain in my hands. I also would sometimes wake up with swolen, red joints in...
  4. Cheesecake, lasagne and Krispy Kreme powered cream-filled donuts.
  5. Thanks--I have a Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods here so I'll check them out. Its hard to find good natural hair products that don't contain wheat.
  6. Where do you buy these shampoos? They sound nice.
  7. Thank you all so much for all of the helpful info. I'll be replacing those pans and have already purchased another digestive enzyme that is definately gluten-free --Patti
  8. I'm in northwestern Burlington County NJ --not sure how far away but it sounds cool!
  9. I have some questions that I can't seem to find a definate answer to: Does the ingredient Malt Dastase (found in my digestive enzymes) contain malt or is it just the name? Is it the same as Maltase? The other question is: Do I need to replace my nonstick pans? They are not Teflon brand but have some cut marks. My dishwasher has a sanitizing cycle that...
  10. Wow--I never thought that my palpitations could have been linked to my Celiac. I used to get them occasionaly. I had the Holter Monitor and an echocardiogram done and everything was normal there. Since being gluten-free, come to think of it, I haven't had any. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my anxiety is so much better now. Thanks for the heads...
  11. I too find that the longer I am gluten-free, the more sensitive my digestive system seems to be. The emotional symptoms (anxiety and mild depression) have gotten better but it does not take much to set off my stomach. I was feeling better than I have in a long time for about 3 weeks but since Monday I've been having D on and off with bloating and a general...
  12. Gina--I am wondering about this, too. My pans are not Teflon but have a nonstick surface -- the brand name is Ultrex and I don"t know exactly what the surface is made of. A couple of the pans have spots where the nonstick has been cut. My dishwasher has a sanitizing cycle which I use for every load. I wonder if I should be concerned?
  13. I was glutened earlier this week from soap that I thought was ok but it was direct contamination because I bite my nails. How STUPID could I be?! I think that I'll finally kick that habit now that it can actually make me sick
  14. Your poor husband sounds a lot like me the last couple of years--I've been gluten-free for 4 months now and I can say that I seemed to "turn the corner" after 3 months. That is not to say that I'm back to normal (whatever that is!), but I agree with the others in that it takes time-I'm finding that out as I go. 7 weeks probably isn't enough time considering...
  15. Immediately after going gluten-free, I gained 10 lbs. I've always been 10-20 lbs. overwt. and the year and a half or so before I was diagnosed I was slowly losing wt. The total I lost was about 15lbs. so I figure my body is trying to get back to what had been "normal" for me. It's funny, tho, because when I was at my sickest, I looked the best in my clothes...
  16. Since June 2, 2005.
  17. I've been gluten-free 4 mo. now--the 1st. couple of months gluten-free, it seemes like I couldn"t get enough sleep. I would fall asleep around 10PM and sleep dead till 7AM or so. I would want to lie down in the afternoon as well. At the moment, the pattern seems to be: fall asleep pretty easily, but wake early (5AM or so). I accidently used a soap which...
  18. Lisa-- Thanks for the info. After using the Facial Cleanser for 3-4 days, my skin had a burning sensation and I am also having a slight gluten "attack" that I can't attribute to anything else--I am so careful with my diet. Needless to say, I'll not be using that again . I have also used the Gentle Skin Cleanser with no apparent ill effects, but I'll probably...
  19. Can anyone help me--I like Cetaphil facial cleanser but can't find it on any list or find a phone # and the website is no help. I thought I read a post a while back that someone had to give it up so it made me think. I find that finding info. on foods is so much easier than with health&beauty products--also any info. on hair color would be great. Thanks...
  20. Hello everone-I am a 49 yr. old homemaker posting for the 1st. time. I was dx w/celiac disease 6/2/05 and gluten-free since that day.I have to say that this group is very knowledgeable and supportive and has been a big help to me these past few months. I suffered from nausea, dizziness, and anemia for 15 years or so, all the while my Drs. believed I had sinus...
