  1. First of all, you are not a failure We all go through the learning stage at the beginning and I don't think anyone gets it perfectly right at the start. I know I certainly didn't, and am still learning (sometimes the hard way!). My 2 cents regarding the Gluten Free Bible--I read in it that of the 2 meds. I take for high B.P., one (Norvasc) was not gluten...
  2. Would that be the Trader Joe brand, or other?
  3. I get a similar reaction from soy. 1-2 hours after I eat it, I get cramps and D. This has gotten worse since going gluten-free so I avoid it altogether.
  4. Thats a great question! I don't know of any--the ones I find all have wheat as well--so I'll be looking forward to the replies.
  5. Can anyone help me? I'm almost 5 mo. gluten-free and doing pretty well. Sun. night I ate homemade spanish rice and ever since then, my face has felt hot and the area across my nose and face is red. Almost like a sunburn. I have noticed that the last few times I've eaten tomato sauce, I haven't felt quite right, could I be reacting to tomatoes? Potatoes...
  6. I also get a dull pain right under my ribcage after eating gluten. I remember before gluten-free that it came with pressure and affected my breathing. Now if I get glutened it isn't as bad but does still happen.
  7. Hi Vic--I mentioned shampoos, lotion etc. because anything you use on your face or hands can easily find its way into your mouth. I had a hair gel that was making me sick before I realized it had wheat starch in it. Also a facial cleanser (Cetaphil) that I thought was safe gave me a reaction. I prepare my food, sometimes bite a fingernail, maybe lick a...
  8. I had terrible fatigue the first 3 mo. or so after going gluten-free. You sound like I felt. I'm almost 5 mo. now and the fatigue is much improved but I still get tired late afternoon--it comes on suddenly and I feel better if I lay down, even for a short time. I also still have muscle aches in my thighs and neck. You sound like you've made some progress...
  9. It was my understanding that sublingual was the best way to absorb vit. B12. I have been thinking about trying Trivita and called the 800 # and the person I got on the phone couldn't tell me if it was gluten-free or not. She said she"didn't see any wheat ingred. on her list of ingred." but couldn't guarantee it. Did the label state that it is gluten-free...
  10. Hi, everyone! I saw New Jersey mentioned. I live in Burlington Twp. which is midway between Phila. and Trenton. I'm a 49 yr. old married mom of 2 sons. I grew up in central NY and have lived in the Atlanta, GA area as well as in northern NJ-Warren Co. My husband was transferred around a bit. We've been here for almost 10 yrs. now and absolutely love...
  11. I use Centrum, vit. B6 and calcium lactate. I also take a digestive enzyme at each meal.
  12. Hormel's cure 81 hams are gluten-free as well as their bacon.. Oscar Meyer bacon is gluten-free also. At the deli, even after you locate a gluten-free product, make sure they clean the slicer before doing yours.
  13. In addition to nettiebeads good advice, I would say that everyone heals at a different rate and to just keep with it. The issue of making sure that her health&beauty products are gluten-free is so important--when I tossed all of my products that had wheat in them and all of my lipsticks and mascaras I noticed a big difference. So many shampoos&...
  14. I figured this out by trial and error--when I make choc. chip cookies, I measure out the rice flour and then take out about 2 good tablespoons of the flour and replace it with potato starch. It seems to make the cookies more tender and they don't dry out as fast.
  15. During the first 3 months or so gluten-free, I would get so tired at times that I thought I might collapse. It sounds dramatic but thats what it felt like. Also during that time, I would fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow at night and sleep for about 9 hours straight (not previously the norm for me). At about the 4 month mark, the fatigue began...
  16. That sounds so-o-o good. I'm going to make it as soon as I buy the cornmeal!
  17. That would be great if we could get a campign going to bring attention to celiac disease. Ideas anyone?
  18. If I accidently ingest gluten,I get frequent (3-4 times a day) D, nausea, bloating ,fatigue and just generally dont feel right for about 5 days. Lately, I'm reacting to corn with bloating and indigestion for 1 day or so. I also react to soy, dairy and legumes--these have become a problen since I've been gluten-free.
  19. Another good bread is from Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakery--the cinnamon raisin bread. It is great toasted.
  20. nini, That is a great idea regarding the Wendy's burger! I'm going to do that this weekend--I've had such a craving for Wendy's. Maybe I'll bring my bread, order a baked potato and a drink and eat there like a normal person--I'm really excited now Thanks SO much!!!
  21. I had my endoscopy done in June. The Dr. can see inflammation as he did in mine. Good luck with your results, elbar!
  22. In South Jersey I get it at Shop Rite in the Health/Gluten Free section. I also have seen it at Whole Foods in Marlton. The spaghetti is great!
  23. Julie, So happy for you, too. I have only been a member here for a short time after being Dx in June 05. I have read about your journey to find the cause of your problems and saw myself the 2 yrs. or so before my Dx. I also had the anemia that got worse all of a sudden. My trigger, tho was gyno. surgery in Mar. 04. After that all of my symptoms got worse...
  24. That was a close one! I'll bet that from now on you will automatically check--thats what happened to me with a mint I popped into my mouth without checking. The almost PANIC that set in after I had it in my mouth--I thought OH NO --was kind of funny when you think about it. I'm glad you didn't get sick!
  25. I also would agree that it could be from sitting on the toilet too long. It happens to me, too.
