  1. Kaiti, Here is a recipe that my husband and I both enjoy-- PINEAPPLE UPSIDEDOWN CAKE 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine 1/2 cup Domino light brown sugar 1 20 oz. can crushed pineapple in own juice--drain and reserve juice 1 pkg. Gluten Free Pantry Old Fashioned Cake and Cookie Mix Preheat oven to 350 degrees...
  2. I frequently have itchy skin on my arms, mostly, but sometimes on my thighs and back. Mine happens without having been glutened. I think its another symptom of Celiac. I would love to know if anyone with more experience has any thoughts on this. I have no rash--just itch.
  3. Ha Ha I thought the same thing last night!
  4. I have problems with beans, too. Never noticed it until going gluten-free. Bummer because I love baked beans! Never thought of the protein being the culprit...
  5. Yea--I was still having it, although not as bad, even after being gluten-free for several months. I went casein free 3 weeks or so ago and it seems to be improving. I went gluten-free and dairy free at the same time, but did continue to eat butter. When I gave up the butter is when I noticed the difference.
  6. Hi, Doug and welcome Thanks for the link. Monica's cafe sounds great and the stuffing recipe sounds yummy!
  7. armoorefam, Thanks for the info. Today, I'm ordering the Biscuit Mix, Hamburger Buns, and Cinnamon Rolls. I'm excited! I think you will enjoy baking with the potato starch. I bake with rice flour and the addition of the potato starch makes things softer and I find they don't dry out as fast. You have to play with the amounts a bit, but I've had good...
  8. I was wondering where you got the buns, too I would love a hamburger on a real bun instead of toast!
  9. Have you done a search for Mary Kay? It seem so me that I read a while back someone posting about those products.
  10. Hi, idahogirl, MSG does not contain gluten. Some people might be sensitive to it but it does not have to do with gluten. Modified food starch and natural flavors might contain gluten. Those ingredients need to be investigated; the best thing to do is call the company and ask.
  11. Thanks, Linda--I'll hang on to the address. Every once in a while my husband and I drive up to NYC (from South Jersey) to see a show or whatever. I'd love to try some of the goodies!
  12. True--wouldn't want it to sneak past us!
  13. I checked the listing and I think that the issue is steriods--House dosen't want to treat the guy because he suspects he's used them. I look ahead on my TiVo and haven't found the Celiac episode yet. If I do, I'll post it.
  14. Thanks for the link--I sent an e-mail off to him.
  15. First, welcome! And no, you are not being ridiculous! A turkey stuffed with regular stuffing is not safe for a gluten free diet. Thats like cross contamination to the n'th degree. One suggestion: if he insists , you could roast a small turkey breast for yourself while the turkey cooks. You have a right to enjoy your holiday without getting sick.
  16. Yes! I also sometimes go blank while talking on the phone but it also can happen while I'm in a regular conversation. Moreso on the phone, though. Good to know I'm not alone on this
  17. Thanks for getting back to me. I plan to use the gluten-free sandwich bread from Whole Foods to make it. Dressing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner
  18. That sounds great! I'm going to try your recipe for Thanksgiving as we always have green bean casserole and this will be my first gluten-free year. I think doing the onions the night before would work out fine. Thanks!
  19. Hi cmcm, Yes, you can be overweight and Celiac. I've always been 10-15 lbs. above what I should be. Only in the months before my DX when I was sicker than I've ever been did I lose about 15 lbs. Re: nausea and dizziness--Those were the only symptoms I had for about 15 years. The Drs. always said it was due to my allergies . I was also anemic but that...
  20. Add me to the list--glad to help.
  21. I second the thanks to Richard! And thanks to all of you who answered my many questions and everyone else who helped me by my just reading through the posts. As I've said before. this site has been a godsend for me these past few months--couldn't have gotten to this point without ya
  22. Saline sprays are sold over the counter--they are nothing but a saltwater solution that can be used to moisturize and temporarily make the nasal passage clearer. You can use them as often as you feel you need to because they do not contain any medicines. They don't treat or prevent allergies or sinus infections. I have personally found that they can be...
  23. How did you toast the cubed bread? How hot of an oven, how long, did you put anything on the cubes before? Thanks!
  24. The spoon touching the bread incident--how funny! Thanks, I needed a laugh today.
  25. I agree 100%.
