  1. I had never heard of such a thing before--thanks for the eye-opener!
  2. nikki--I don't have any experience with what you husband is going through, but I would not take him off any meds. yourself. I wish the best for your husband and sincerely hope that you find the answers you need. Wish I could be of more help. Hang in there--I know its rough for you, too
  3. Laura--Thanks so much. I just printed the recipe out and will be making them soon. I'll let you know how they turn out --Patti
  4. That was a great article--thank you!
  5. I either have a banana and some Whole Foods gluten-free Bakeshop cinnamon raisin bread toasted, or Cream of Rice w/ pure maple syrup, raisins and walnuts. Sometimes, just a banana and o.j.
  6. Thanks Angel and Laura! Laura, could you post the recipe when you get the chance? These are my younger son's favorite and I just don't want to use wheat flour in my kitchen anymore. Do you think that I could use plain rice flour in it? Thanks again
  7. I gained 10 lbs. in the first 2 months gluten free. After gaining about 2 more, I've leveled off and its been 6 months now. How long have you been gluten-free? I don't know about the medicine you are taking, could be a factor. It could be that you're absorbing more of what you're eating and thats the reason for the gain. I feel that thats what happened...
  8. Would love to read it--your new picture is so cute
  9. I used it to make a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and it came out great. I followed the directions to the letter--it was a little more crumbly than a regular wheat flour crust--but I used rice flour on the counter and turned it over a few times while rolling to keep it floured and moveable. I had to work with it a little, but the results were so worth it...
  10. Nini-- Thanks for the suggestion about the GFP website. I love their mixes, especially the pie crust and the cake and cookie mix. I'm going to check it out today
  11. Keeper--The symptoms you describe certanly point toward possible Celiac. A CBC and stool fat testing won't tell you if you have it. If you are interested in being tested, ask the Dr. to do the Complete Celiac (blood) Panel. The other test that is used to DX Celiac is a small intestine biopsy done with an endoscope. You could also try going completely...
  12. Those are the magic words for me, too
  13. Stevia is an herb--all natural. I don't personally care for the taste, but it is the sweetener that my Kinesiologist recommended that I use. I don't, though--I use regular sugar.
  14. I make sandwitches for my husband and son and there are a few other times when I touch bread or something with gluten in it. I just make sure I wash my hands every time and am fine. We always use a plate or something between the bread and the counter. Its a matter of common sense, really. And it becomes second nature quickly. The problem does not lie...
  15. Actually, from how you described your skin, I think you should try light and see how it works. Also, for the dark circles, and other spots you are less than thrilled with :(I use the Bisque in the Original color. I use it for the red places that I always seem to have and it covers nicely without being obvious. Hang in there--it's gonna look great.
  16. I don't know if this will help....but I have a light complexion, dark brown hair and tend to have a pink undertone (prone to redness, flushing). I use BE Medium Foundation. That is the one that looks best with a cool undertone. If you have a more yellow (warmer) undertone, one of the others would work better for you. The shade obviously would depend on...
  17. Pixiegirl--I had never heard of your condition, but I googled it just now and there is a ton of info. there. I only read for a little while, but from what I read, wheat/gluten is a problem for a lot of those with EG. There was a lot of info on food sensitivites associated with it. If it were me, I'd settle in and do some reading on the subject--I read...
  18. I was going to ask about the same thing! I'm looking for a traditional rolled out sugar cookie recipe. Also, has anyone been able to make the peanut butter blossom cookies gluten-free? (the ones that you put a hershey"s kiss in the middle while they're still hot). My GFDF pumpkin pie was fantastic, if I say so myself, but cookies are another thing altogether
  19. I have to agree with the others, also. The accident sounds like the trigger, but it didn't cause the Celiac. Mine was triggered, ironicly, by surgery that was being done to treat my heavy bleeding. My GYN felt that my worsening anemia (BC went fron 12 to 8.5 in 2 months) was due to the bleeding so I had an endometrial ablation w/ D&C under general...
  20. Have you ever had trouble with chocolate before? A person can be sensitive to it. Also, I know a lot of GFDF chocolate contains soy. Soy is another thing many people react to. Finally, I know I'm in the minority here but I always get an upset stomach with Pamela"s brownies. I know its gluten-free and safe, but it just affects me that way. Its quite...
  21. I am sensitive to light, too, but it affects me after coming inside after being out in the sun. Not only sensitive, but a little fuzzy. Like I have to take a few minutes and "get my bearings" or something. Maybe its more of a sun sensitive problem?
  22. About 2 months before I was finally Dx, my bilirubin was elevated (I was not DX with Gilberts). I had blood work done in early Nov., after 6 months gluten free, and the level returned to normal. Actually, the same was true of a low white blood count and a very slightly low thyroid--they all returned to a normal number. I was pleasantly surprised, to say...
  23. The barley malt ingred. in your shampoo can cause you to have symptoms! Early on in my quest to be completely gluten-free, I was still getting D every afternoon after feeling ok when I woke up. Anyway, I read that the hair gel I was using had wheat in it. I threw it away, along with most of what I had under the sink (wheat in almost everything!!!) That...
  24. I was always getting very high BP readings at the Drs. office. My Dr. suggested that I get a BP monitor that I could use at home . I did and ya know, my at home readings are consistantly in the normal range. As soon as I go in to the office--high again. That said, I am on BP meds. but the pattern continues. It would be interesting to know if others have...
  25. mightymorg--The salad sounds really good! I'm going to copy the recipe
