  1. What a great article--many thanks for posting it
  2. Wow Guhlia--Thanks for letting us know what happened to your husband. I thing I'll stick to the small bottles of McCormick because I also love vanilla too much to have to give up.
  3. Oh--I'd love to be able to read it, too.
  4. For all the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fans here, I found out that Susie Essman has Celiac. She plays Larry David's manager's wife. I think her character is hilarious! Anyway, you can read it here at: Open Original Shared Link and click on *Susie's NYT Food Interview*. In it, she says she has it and would become "the poster girl"--tongue in cheek, I'm...
  5. I thought Martha was a good idea, so I sent her an e-mail today. I've also e-mailed Montel, Oprah, CNN, and Elizabeth Hasselbeck at The View. Here's hoping one of our letters click with someone out there with an audience!
  6. I was totally sedated for the procedures--colo. and endo. the same day. The Dr. that did mine said that even if I was to have only the endo., I would be totally sedated and the procedure would take about 5 minutes. He thought I should have both, so I went ahead and got it over with (I'll be 50 next year). Glad I did--colo. was clear so one thing I don...
  7. About a month ago, I found that the small, older Acme that is close to my house had started to carry The Gluten Free Pantry mixes and a few other gluten free items. I saw them, stopped short to look, and my husband had made his way up the isle. I called to him from an isle away and said "look what I found!". I mean, for cripe sake, it was a brownie mix...
  8. Elonwy--Thanks for the link--I'm going to order them and hopefully will get up the nerve to go out and use them!
  9. I was going to ask the same thing--that is in the event that I ever start eating out again!
  10. celiachap--I thought the same thing! My husband and I love the Seinfeld reruns.
  11. Hi Kim--I thought I'd reply so you wouldn't have to reply to yourself anymore . I tend to get cramps in my calves mainly at night while laying down, like if I stretch, they cramp up in that position. I also recently have been getting cramps in my feet where the arch is. This is happening a lot and is annoying.
  12. It is my understanding that the different paper companies will buy whatever adhesive is the cheapest. To me, that means that you never know--I never lick envelopes anymore. Either my husband does it, or I use a damp paper towel.
  13. Floridanative--Say no more about the family situation! I understand completely . Having the "buffer zone" is a good thing for me, too, and I remember our trading stories. I think the holidays are bringing back some of my anxiety--I still haven't deceided if I want to go up for a visit this year, or send the gifts. I know if I go, I'll end up sick--the...
  14. floridanative--My 2 cents on the fresh turkey --we all loved it. It was juicy, and had a nice taste, not what I'd call gamey at all. A matter of personal taste, I guess. Anyway, good luck with your tie-breaking Dr. appt.! I was terribly anemic, too. My BC went from 12 to 8.5 in a matter of 2 months before I was DX. The gluten free diet has been a huge...
  15. Thanks, Karen--I use Purex, but I wondered about Ivory Snow because I like to wash my nicer sweaters in it.
  16. I had a problem with the Honey Rice Puffins. Right after I ate them, I felt sick to my stomach. Through trial and error, I'm finding that I frequently react to foods made on the same lines or in the same facility as foods containing wheat. Not everyone does, but I seem to. I stay away from such things, generally speaking.
  17. floridanative, It will be interesting to see if you get a different reply from Butterball. I called them probably in early Nov. and spoke to a rep. who told me that the plain, unstuffed frozen turkeys are gluten free. He told me that they were injected with a "salt solution". As it turned out, I ordered a fresh Butterball from the meat dept. 2 weeks before...
  18. Thanks for sharing that, Rachel. I'm glad that you had such a good experience with that Dr. I wish I would have known about it--I might have gone that route, too. The end result would have been the same, but I would love to have a one on one relationship with my Dr. like that.
  19. My hands tend to get rough and the tips of my fingers can crack in the wintertime, especially. I think, in my case, that it is due to the heat being on which makes for lower humidity in the house. Add to that, all the handwashing--for all the normal reasons and being extra careful for gluten reasons. I use Palmolive dishwashing liquid, but also have a...
  20. Jackie--As an older member, I just want to tell you how impressed I was with your advice to Sophie. What wonderful, practical, down to earth solutions you gave. I'm sure this will benefit a lot of people out there. As difficult as it can be to navigate through this Celiac journey that we're all on--it must be all the more trying for people still in school...
  21. Relax Moongirl, the Endo. isn't bad at all. I was out for mine and don't remember a thing. Felt perfectly fine after. I would definately call the Dr.s office and let them know that you're on antibiotics. There may be a problem depending on what meds. they plan to use for your procedure. Or, maybe not, I don't know, but I would call to make sure. Try...
  22. nini--Thanks for the tip! Glad they tasted good, that's the important part ..Yesterday, I used The gluten-free Pantry Cake & Cookie mix and made Snickerdoodles (the recipe on the bag). They were really easy and so good. In the next few days, I'll be attempting gluten-free rolled out sugar cookies for the first time. Also, over the weekend, I made...
  23. I don't want to be confrontational, but 1 in 133 people to me is common. I've read more than one article (one in Prevention Mag.) that describes Celiac as once thought to be rare, but is much more common. Maybe you saw an older article?
  24. laurafla--I have not had experience with the type of eczema you have. I have it on my eyelid and have for over 10 years. It comes and goes--I've used everything from RX steroid cream to moisturizers. Nothing keeps it away for long. I hope you find the cause of yours and something that will help--at least keep it at bay. Wish I could have been more help...
  25. Ha Ha --This made me think of when my husband had a job where he had to travel frequently by car. He would always be on the road when this show was on and he'd tell me about the host and the people who believe that not only are there aliens among us, but some of them believe they are from a place far far away, too. That may not be the audience we have in...
