Monica--Before this Christmas baking fiasco, I always just used rice flour and some potato starch to soften it up a bit. Never a problem. I shouldn't have tried to fix something that wasn't broken! Whole, natural foods sound like a great idea right about now.

I've never been DX with depression, but before being gluten-free, I suffered from anxiety, panic attacks (infrequent), and depression. After about 4 months gluten-free, I felt a lot better--the anxiety was pretty much gone and I would wake up feeling more positive. I have not had an anxiety attack since I cut out the gluten. If I am glutened, I immediately...

Monica--Thanks for responding so fast! I also was excited that my cookies came out well, and proceded to eat some of each kind. All were made with the mix with the tapioca flour in it. I didn't feel well the next morning and I blamed the Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses in the Peanut Blossoms! So, what did I do--I made choc. chip cookies with the flour...

ARCHIVED Salicylates Sensitivity
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Rachel--Oh my gosh--I've never even heard of salicylates but most of the foods you mentioned affect me in one way or another. I also have frequent burning feelings in my face, mouth and feet. I will Google it, but is there any book or other info. that you could suggest? I'm very sensitive to perfumes also--to the point that some will make me feel faint... -

Hot tea and Enjoy Life's Gingerbread Spice Cookies. -
I've been sick for 3 weeks now. I've been over everything I've eaten and used. I do not feel like I've been glutened. No D (the big tip off), but upper abdominal stuff like lots of gas, pressure, belching, nausea, and a burning in my mouth and dry throat. I've been going 2 times a day--it had been once for quite a while now. I almost feel like I've been...

Joanna--When you do master the Shoo Fly Pie, please post the recipe--I love that pie. Reminds me of the many trips to Lancaster, PA with my husband and boys. Have a nice holiday

So happy to hear of your nice evening at Outback! I have one nearby and have not tried it yet. And yes--if you type in the letters G and then F, it will appear as gluten free.

Thanks, George--I think the article explained things very well.

jerseyangel replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks, Lauren--that was very interesting. Have a nice holiday -
I find myself doing the same thing. Since there is so much I can't have that I used to take for granted, I compansate by eating the safe goodies more than I should. Gluten free or not, I've always had this problem--and the extra 20 lbs. to show for it

ARCHIVED Dx Kids Vs. Dx Adults.... Do Symptoms, Reactions To Gluten Differ
jerseyangel replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Something similar is happening with me. I was DX at the beginning of June. After the first 3 months or so, I felt much better. Actually, Oct. and Nov. were great. I felt well, and thought the worst was over--I thought that if I stayed gluten-free as I had been, that was it. Well, Dec. is proving me wrong! I accidently got some gluten thru cross contamination... -
ARCHIVED A Post For Nathela
jerseyangel replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nathela--Hi and welcome! Glad you found us here. The endoscopy, for me , was no big deal at all. I was asleep for it, woke up feeling rested. You'll do fine with it, I'm sure. Sorry it took you so long to come back from the flu. 3 months gluten-free is a relatively short time. Most (like you) find some improvement after going gluten-free, but I didn... -
ARCHIVED Listerine/mouthwash
jerseyangel replied to buluga's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted the co. a few months back about Listerine--they told me the alcohol was not derived from a grain source. I use it all the time with no problem. I believe its the Arctic Mint flavor. -
ARCHIVED Another Gluten Article In The News
jerseyangel replied to Nevadan's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for posting--I thought it was a good article. Actually, they talked about spelt as an alternative for those with wheat allergies. It may make them less likely to experience reactions. I thought the onfo. regarding Celiac was accurate. -

ARCHIVED Store Bought Gluten-free Bread Recommendations?
jerseyangel replied to chestnut's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Whole Foods near me has their own line called The Gluten Free Bakeshop. They have a sandwich bread that is very good. I don't think all Whole Foods have this yet. Where are you? I know the stores on the east coast have it, not sure which others. -
ARCHIVED Is Baking Soda Gluten-free?
jerseyangel replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Clabber Girl baking powder--says gluten free right on the label! Arm and Hammer Baking Soda is gluten free. Gabby--my kitty looks an awful lot like yours, too, except mine is a longhair. I hope to have his picture up by my name soon. (have to figure out how first) -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Tired Of Being Freezing?
jerseyangel replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm cold all the time it seems--except after I've been asleep for a few hours at night. Then I wake up hot and sweaty. That, I think, has more to do with my age -
Wow--that Doctor is a real find! Good luck on the results

ARCHIVED Help!
jerseyangel replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Dani--Sorry you're not feeling well. Some hams and herbal teas contain gluten. Those are things you have to check out. I also get the burning. I tend to feel it on the bottom of my feet and on my face. Kind of like burning from the inside. No rash or anything on the skin--just the burning. The weakness hits me in the legs. I was accidently glutened... -
ARCHIVED Muscle Soreness
jerseyangel replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can relate, too. Yesterday my husband and I went out for the day--shopping, etc. I was wearing a leather jacket--not heavy, no thick lining--and my shoulders and neck were sore from that. It felt like I was wearing weights on my body! After a few hours, my legs were feeling weak--like they could give out (of course they didn't). It was such a nice day...
