  1. I could have written your post, actually. My Dr. suggested I get a home monitor, and although I do notice that my BP is lower at home than in the Dr.'s office, (the reason she suggested the cuff), my numbers have risen since being DX. They went from around 115/75 at home to more like 125/85. Because it fluctuates, my Dr. put me on low doses of 2 meds....
  2. My hat is off to you! The dinner sounds fabulous--far more ambitious than I could pull off even if there were no dietery restrictions to consider
  3. So, DonnaD, I have to ask--what did you serve for dinner? Sorry to get off the topic, but I LOL at the end of your post!
  4. How nice for both of you to not be the "only ones" at work! Congrats. on the new job, Angela, and Happy (late) Birthday
  5. Thanks, celiac3270, for posting those. I've been reading them and I found the different opinions interesting.
  6. Codetalker--I take no offense at all to your post. I also was brought up in the Catholic Church and was taught that the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. In addition to the host having to be picked up in a certain way (if dropped), the churches have an extra drain which goes directly outside, so that the unused wine (blood) can go back...
  7. I've never tried to freeze gluten-free cake, but I would think that it would be no different from regular wheat cake. If you package it well and don't keep it too long (as you would normally do) I think it should be fine.
  8. I agree with the others--if it were me, I'd concentrate on getting all of the gluten out of my diet and products. Start healing now, in my opinion, why make yourself sick again for a test when you already have had the blood work and the positive response to the diet?
  9. I love the GFP brownies! They look and taste like "normal" ones . I get them at Whole Foods, Acme, or Shoprite.
  10. Hi Celiac Mom--welcome to the group! Thats great news about your church and for your son. I was talking to my mom the other day--she lives in Central NY--she told her priest about me and he said that when I visit, he would get wheat free wafers for me to receive Communion. There is already a member of that Church that only takes the wine and does so before...
  11. Fugiwabbit--Hi, glad you found us here! Sorry that you're feeling so overwhelmed. It sounds as though your symptoms point in the direction of Celiac. If your family Dr. won't give you a referral, could you call a few Gastroentrologists in your area and ask if they have experience with Celiac? Its terrible that you don't have any support from the people...
  12. Hi Carrie--Yes--I was happy with the Thermasilk. I'm currently using the Gluten Free Savonnerie shampoo because I find I'm sensitive to so much now, I don't want to take chances with cross contamination. However, I never had a problem with the Thermasilk.
  13. Bless his heart! Merry Christmas
  14. Thanks for the tip! We love New Hope and have spent many afternoons shopping and browsing there. My next-door neighbor is dating a man who lives in Lambertville--since he spends weekends with her, we've become friends--small world
  15. I agree about the advice to keep your diet simple and avoid, at least for now, the processed things, grains, dairy and soy. I'm taking my own advice here--I'm currently cutting out the packaged foods, and the grains including rice and see how it goes. I'll be sticking to meat, veggies., fruit, good oils and nuts and see if it makes a difference. We could...
  16. I find Whole Foods has a lot of what I need. I get my breads there as they have their own Gluten Free Bakeshop line. I also find some things like Ener-g flour, Enviro Kidz and a few others at Shoprite, a local grocery store. Likewise, Acme is carrying more gluten-free products. I only use mail order if I can't find something locally. Living where I do...
  17. There was discussion here a while back--best to use your own judgement and possibly check with the Co. yourself on this one. Here is the link to it: Open Original Shared Link BTW, I don't drink conventional sodas anymore as the corn syrup bothers me. I love Knudsons Natural Grape Soda. Its juice and carbonated water and hits the spot when I get...
  18. Ev--Happy you have such a smart Doc! Continue to feel better
  19. Yes, please don't quit! I know that this time of year, especially is tough (I'm scrambling as we speak to find the source of a setback). Maybe let us know what a typical day is for you. I know we can figure this out if we take it step by step. If you want, you can PM me and we can talk about it. Once you get past the rough spots and get into a "groove...
  20. Yyesterday I had: Banana and orange juice Salad w/ vegetables, oil and vinegar, ice water Lays Natural Ruffle Chips Steak and french fries, ice water Applejuice heated in microwave I'm currently trying to cut the amount of grains in my diet (rice etc.) and see if it makes a difference.
  21. Hi Dan--Yea, I would not eat that cereal any more. Period. Like Deb, oats made me sick years before I had a DX. Not terribly, but enough to not want to eat them. You have not been DX for that long, and you have to be careful to eat simply so that your intestines have a chance to heal. For breakfast, you might choose fruit, rice bread toast, cream of...
  22. A Kinesiologist was actually the first to mention to me that I should not eat gluten. After trying the diet he suggested, and going off of it, I was convinced there was something to it. Long story short, When I went to the Gastro., I started off by asking if I might be sensitive to wheat. Luckily, he listened to me and I was finally DX after 20 years of...
  23. Rachel--Thanks for posting all of the links--this is interesting. Hope the diet helps you find some answers. Have a Merry Christmas
  24. Yea-I'll just stop using it and see if that helps. The other 2 ingred. were rice flour and potato starch--those I know are ok for me. I also used xanthan gum but only in the cookies, not the banana bread. Thanks for all the input
  25. How could I forget bananas?? They don't call them "the Celiac's best friend" for nothing!
