  1. Hi Joanne and welcome in! The problem with products is that you can get them in your mouth. Anything you use on your face, lipstick, shampoo that runs down your face in the shower, lotion that you use on your hands and then lick your finger or prepare food--that is enough to cause a reaction. I am very sensitive to products even made in the same factory...
  2. I have to think about this one for a minute. Going back close to 20 years, I really wouldn't know how many Doctors to list. During that time, I lived in 3 different states and moved 7 times. I have seen many Drs., in different locations, and you would think that someone would have come up with the correct DX, but, no . I have endured unnecessary antibiotics...
  3. Wendy--First, I have to say that I agree with the others who said that you have Celiac and that a positive biopsy is proof of that. During the first 3 months that I was gluten-free, I was tired, hungry and thirsty all the time. I felt I couldn't get enough sleep. I took that as evidence that I was healing and just went with it. Your positive biopsy means...
  4. I'm glad it all worked out for you. It helps so much to hear of a real person's experience. I still have an anxiety issue--nothing like before gluten-free. Hopefully, I won't get to the point of having to take something, but you have set my mind at ease in the event that it ever happens.
  5. Carlson Lemon Flavored Cod Liver Oil is very good. Not fishy at all. Best to keep it in the fridge.
  6. I took Motrin once for a tooth problem and it caused terrible nausea--worse than the pain from the tooth! If I need heavy-duty pain relief, I use Extra-Strength Bufferin. If not, I'll use nothing or maybe Tylenol.
  7. This has been my experience, also, regarding the gluten-free replacements. I find that I feel better, have begun to lose a little weight (for me, a good thing!) and am spending less on groceries than when I first went gluten-free.
  8. I exclude: Dairy--I have since before my Celiac Dx. I feel better without it. Soy--Gas and cramping. Corn--Bloating. Hope to be able to eat it in the future. Almonds--Cause the roof of my mouth to go numb. Tapioca flour--Nausea, cramping, stomach pain Caffeine & Alcohol--For now, at least until I'm completely healed. Currently, I'm careful to...
  9. Thanks Lorraine--that was good advice from the server's prospective. BTW, welcome
  10. Listening to your own body--I couldn't agree more.
  11. It always sounds a little odd to say congratulations in these kinds of things, but I'm so glad that you finally know for sure. And, you know, we never thought you were crazy!
  12. That was so thoughtful!
  13. Yes--The diet sodas and the coffee and tea--thanks, Jen, I forgot to mention those. Coffee and, to a lesser degree tea, are upsetting for me. I used to be able to drink tea often, but lately it makes me feel ill. (not in the way gluten would, but definately not good) The point, and reason I butted back in here, is that even if she was fine with something...
  14. I second everything Dani said. I had to go back to the basics also when after having a great fall, I got sick in Dec. and had trouble figuring it out. I ate only the meat, veggies, fruit, olive oil, potatoes. (and I ate well--there's a lot you can do using only those foods!) I even cut out rice and all processed foods. I'm adding things such as natural...
  15. Hi Natalie and welcome in! Glad to hear you little girl is improving. It is entirely possible that by cutting gluten out 95% for 4 weeks your blood tests would be neg. even if you were intolerant. How important are test results to you? At this point, you could try 100% gluten-free for a month or so and see how you feel. A lot of people are DX by the...
  16. Gee, I had never heard of it and it sounds awful. Hope your friend has a Dr. that is up on the latest info. about it and that she doing better soon.
  17. CMCM--After my surgery, I was also on iron suppliments that I had started before the procedure. When I stopped them and just took a multi. with iron, I started to have the symptoms of anemia again. That is also when my Celiac kicked in, like I said before, and it leads me to believe that the Celiac was the main cause of the anemia and the monthly blood...
  18. I never knew that! More good news about popcorn
  19. I had anxiety and depression before I was DX. I had pretty much lost intrest in most things, especially those that included going out or being around people outside my immediate family. Both began to lift slowly after going gluten-free. I saw definate improvement during the 4th. month. Now, if I get glutened by accident, I get a bit short tempered and...
  20. Hi Mr. Bam Bam--Sorry to hear your wife is still not doing any better. I am also dairy free as well as gluten-free. I eat a varied, enjoyable diet. I posted some examples of what I eat in a previous post on this discussion, so I won't subject you to that again! I wish I had some additional advice to give regarding the constipation. I always had the opposite...
  21. I like the Enjoy Life foods. Their Gingerbread Spice cookies are really good.
  22. Ha Ha--Thats something to think about--maybe I'll put my cat on instead of me!
  23. What potato bread is that? A mix or recipe? It sounds good
  24. Judy--there is a Whole Foods in Phila. Its on 22nd. and Pennsylvania by the Art Museum I believe. Also one in Ardmore on Rte. 30. I called my husband to check--he is in Phila. on business often. I go to the one over here in Marlton.
  25. Wow--I could have written this part of your post . The only difference is that I had my procedure done in 2004. It was after this that my Celiac came on full force. I just wrote about this in another thread, but in my case , the reactions I get from gluten now do seem worse than they were before. Its a little hard to compare, though, because before DX...
