  1. Thanks, Shaysmom, that was interesting. So if all goes well with the gluten-free diet, we should have to worry less about allergic reactions as time goes on. I swear I learn something new here every day. When you say "grains that have glutens in them", would that include rice? I know rice has a gluten that does not cause the immune reaction in us, but...
  2. The only one I know of for sure is Susie Essman--a comedianne and cast member on "Curb Your Enthusiasm". I posted on this a while back. You can read her interview where she says she has Celiac: Open Original Shared Link Its in the NYT interview.
  3. I'm jealous, too . But really, that is a good sign and hopefully there will be more to come. Enjoy your new "gold mine"!
  4. As far as I know, just eating it. The reason I ask is that I am very sensitive to gluten in products--even CC products. I've never heard of anyone not using a topical product for other than gluten. The Giovanni line is, as I understand gluten-free and is easily available here. The health food store here in my little town carries it.
  5. Hi Kaiti--A quick question--the Giovanni line contains a lot of soy. Do you think that would be a problem for someone (me) that is sensitive to soy?
  6. Hey Judy--love your GI, too! That was great As Deb said, enough is enough.
  7. Hi Maggie, As a kind of update, I am 7 months gluten-free now and having gotten relief from many of my severe symptoms, find that I do better when I cut way down on the gluten-free breads and other baked goods. There are 2 reasons I say this: my skin is much improved. I have eczema, that has not gotten much better just being gluten-free. It is all but...
  8. On a Kraft product, you can safely assume that there is no gluten in it *IF* they are not listed in the ingredients. If the MFS does not say wheat, then it is corn. If you don't see gluten listed, its not in the Kraft product.
  9. Thanks
  10. As I've mentioned before, I love Lay's Natural Low Fat Ruffles potato chips.
  11. Have a great time in Orlando and Happy New Year to you!
  12. Well, best of luck on the biopsy-- The hard part is the wait. And I agree--it would be awful if he (the other doc.) did the Endo. and didn't take any biopsies. (what did he expect to see, anyway?) Why do they have to make it so complicated
  13. Hi Floridanative--I lost 15 lbs. in the 6 months or so before my DX, when I got really sick. At that point, though, everything I was eating went right through me. Before that, I was always trying to lose a few pounds. When I went gluten-free, I put 10 lbs. back on in the first 2 months. My Dr. said it was normal. Out of curiousity, why did you not stay...
  14. Dove milk and dark chocolate bars are gluten-free.
  15. When I have a gluten reaction, I get very thirsty.
  16. Lately I've been wondering if we, as Celiacs, have an increased risk of becoming allergic to foods. The reason I ask is because I've incorporated some nuts (walnuts, natural peanut butter) into my diet, while cutting down on the grain products. I'm not talking additional sensitivites upon going gluten free, I mean serious allergic reactions. I think maybe...
  17. If you find that you are sensitive to products because of cross contamination, as I do, I would suggest The Gluten Free Savonerie (www.gfsoap.com). Personally, I do better with products made in a gluten-free facility. Its taken me months of trial and error to realize this. The same thing with food products. Its an individual choice, of course, and we...
  18. I also eat naturally gluten-free foods that are rich in fiber. I have found that, for myself, cutting way down on the gluten-free breads and other baked goods and increasing the amount of fruits and veggies has improved my regualrity as well as my skin. At breakfast today I had a bowl of banana, cranberries, orange, and walnuts. Lunch is always a large...
  19. Hi and welcome in! Although there are gluten-free soy sauces available, consuming regular soy sauce will prevent you from healing, possibly cause further damage and cause you to have symptoms. The goal is to be 100% gluten-free. That means food, condiments, spices, soap, shampoo, lotions--anything that you eat or use on your body. Just a tiny bit will...
  20. The book "Dangerous Grains" is a great read and at the end lists many of the symptoms as well as a list of Gluten Associated Medical Conditions. That is the most complete list I've seen. I'm sure some of the others here will know of other lists.
  21. celiac3270, If you get a chance, I'd like a copy also. Thanks--jerseyangel1@verizon.net
  22. Yup--I saw some Yogi Tea at Whole Foods recently that I thought would be good (it had cocoa in it). Because I don't buy things like that anymore unless I check on it first (too much money wasted on things I had to discard or give away), I checked the website. Under the FAQ, I believe, they said that they use gluten ingredients in their factory and it was...
  23. So happy to hear that Dylan is on the right track!
  24. Nancy--Despite your physical problems and pain, you have a beautiful, healthy spirit. I pray that the people in your life that are so obviously threatened and afriad of your situation will find it in themselves to, at the very least, be accepting of the things that can't be changed. So many times, people just want to look at things from their point of view...
