  1. Alyson--I find that the longer I'm gluten-free, the more sensitive I am to the smallest amounts. At this point, the only thing that gets me is CC--I don't eat out and cook everything here myself. Those amounts are tiny, and the reason I now eat mostly whole, naturally gluten-free foods. The exception being occasional treats from companies that are dedicated...
  2. Hi Katydid--The response you got from Quaker reaffirms what I have been thinking about products made in a factory that also uses gluten. There have been a few things that seemed fine at first, but after using them a while and having to buy more, I would get a reaction. That happened with Barbara's Puffins Cereal, and a few other things. It makes sense that...
  3. The pain I had in my right shoulder and hip have inproved with being gluten-free. The joint in my thumb sometimes gets red, painful and inflamed. That has not happened at all since gluten-free. The neck pain, while not as bad is still with me. Some days better than others. Hard to know what causes what sometimes!
  4. Judy--I just figured out how to make this work, myself--at the bottom right of the post you want to quote, hit the reply button. If you want to quote the whole post, just hit enter a couple of times to get down below the quotes post and add your reply. Then post as usual. If you only want part of the quote, edit out the parts you don't want, but leave...
  5. Thanks, Ursula--it's nice to know it has a name and not so nice, but strangely comforting, that I'm not the only one. Especially where you say that you have trouble judging where your body parts are in relation to things--thats it exactaly, but I sometimes find it hard to put these kinds of things into words.
  6. I've had a problem with perfume since my teen's. I would put some on and after a while would feel faint. Once when I was about 16 or 17, I wore perfume to work and just made it into my boss's office before I blacked out. Ever since then (and it been a long time!), I avoid wearing it. If I get stuck close to someone wearing strong perfume, the feeling...
  7. That was a great article! Lots of good tips there. I also scrolled up and read the article that suggests a link between Diabetes and milk. Interesting.
  8. Oh Nini--thank you! That brought a smile to my face. When we first moved to GA, our kids were young--4 & 7--and my husband, who had been transfered there and had the chance to explore a little bit, couldn't wait to show them the Big Chicken when we all moved down there.
  9. Jen--So you react to some things that didn't show up on the test? What I'm thinking, after hearing what happened with you and Shirley, is that I should wait a while longer (maybe in 5-6 months, which will be a year gluten-free for me) and one at a time introduce small amounts of things and just guage it that way. When you say that you have had some improvemant...
  10. Thanks, Shirley--just to know that I may be able to eat popcorn again is great!
  11. OMG--The Big Chicken! We lived in Lawrenceville, Ga for 71/2 yrs. and I haven't thought of that in years. So it's still there?
  12. If the villi were flat, thus a positive biopsy, then you have it. I don't understand it when people say that they have a positive biopsy and all the symptoms that begin to clear on the gluten-free diet and still the Doctor is reluctant to give a diagnosis. Maybe I'm missing something, but that makes people anxious and worst of all, can delay the start of...
  13. I'm glad you stuck to your guns and got the correct diagnosis. Gyno. problems often affect our gastrointestinal systems. I have fibroids and during a hystrocopy, it was discovered I also had polyps (which were removed at that time). I always had noticeable PMS symptoms and during that time I would get D and even mild nausea. Best of luck with the surgery
  14. Thats a good question. I look forward to everyone's opinion.
  15. I started getting very ill in the fall of 2003. At that time, my Dr. felt that my anemia was caused by heavy monthly blood loss. In Mar. 04, I had a procedure under general anesthetic to control it. After that, the accute symptoms of Celiac kicked in worse than ever before. I was diagnosed in June of 2005.
  16. Yea, sometimes I find myself turning a corner in the house and bumping into the doorjam--like I misjudged where the doorway was! Other little things too, like bumping my wrist into the corner of the counter, and having my left leg (the side affected w/neuropathy) not rise above the floor enough when I walk sometimes. These things have definately come to...
  17. Thanks Jen, Richard and Nini--I'll take your advice and clean it as thoroughly as I can, and use a small brush up under the top. After that, I'll run it empty a little bit. It actually looks brand new--it's clean as far as I can see but I always picture the flour from the old days (like last year!) trapped up in there.
  18. What a great response!
  19. Shaysmom--You're so right about dairy. It's truly sad to think of the dairy industry hoodwinking so many into thinking that without it your bones would break apart and you would find it much harder to lose weight. Growing up, I didn't like milk and luckily my parents didn't make me drink it. As an adult, I used to eat yogurt, cheese and ice cream. I never...
  20. YES! I've been wondering the same thing. I've had mine for well over 10 years and always used it for large batches of cookies and other things. I have not used it once since I went gluten-free. I have a hand mixer that I feel I've gotten clean enough and even before, I mostly used that one for potatoes. I have been just using that or mixing by hand....
  21. Yea--I agree with Nini on this. Having them be gluten-free, at least at home, would be so much easier for you--not to mention safer. (less chance of CC). The diet is healthy for anyone. I'm the only one in my house with Celic, but dinner every night is naturally gluten-free. No one complains (or really notices, for that matter) because it's all good and...
  22. The only thing I drink is wine, but I can't seem to tolerate it at all now. I'll just not try it again for a while. Maybe when I hit the 1 year mark?
  23. Rachel--It sounds like you really have a knack for baking! Funny it took this to get you to start . Anyway, good luck with the new diet--I hope you figure it all out and get to feeling better. From everything you've said, it sounds like you're on the right track!
