  1. I definately remember that while I was still eating gluten, I would get hot and nauseous after eating quite often. I used to get night sweats in my 30's. It got so that the heat was mostly in my face. My face felt hot to the touch. My blood pressure tends to run on the high side. The hot face still happens once in a while--much less now, though.
  2. Interesting.
  3. I used to eat cauliflower that way when I did the Atkins Diet several years ago. I thought it was delicious.
  4. As luck would have it, I got the GFP's new catalogue in the mail the other day. The Favorite Sandwich Bread is listed. This catalogue is great--it has the GFP products as well as Glutino, some Ener-g, Sorella Bakery, Dr. Schar, Bumble Bar, ANDI, some Orgran, Nature's Path, Enjoy Life, Tinkyada, Freeda's Vitamins, cookbooks, etc. Nini--the Coffee Cake Mix...
  5. Dangerous Grains is definately a must--a real eye-opener. Another good book for someone new to the gluten-free life is Wheat Free Worry Free by Dana Korn. There's a lot of good, practical advice in there.
  6. I agree . When I was reading it, it was hard to put down.
  7. Me, too. I've been wondering about that. It seems that some things just have no taste until I add a lot of salt and pepper. I don't remember ever using this much before.
  8. Yes--If the term "natural flavor" is listed on a brand known to not hide gluten, and they do not specify what is in the flavoring, that would be a safe product. If you are not sure about a company's policy on this, always call--I've found that they will often tell you on the phone if they have a "no hide" policy. Hershey's, Nestle, Con Agra, and Kraft/Nabisco...
  9. Butterball is a division of Con Agra foods. I was told that Con Agra had the policy where they would not hide any gluten ingred. To me, that sounds like it would apply to Butterball, and any other brand name under them. If you are uncomfortable, it might be best to talk to them--their #--800-228-8372.
  10. Caeli--I am happy you are with us! I read that you have been recently diagnosed with Celiac. If you had known before you were ordained, would you (or could you) have still chosen this path? I posted my opinions on this earlier in the thread. As you can tell from that, I am a bit torn about this. While I understand the facts of the matter, in my heart...
  11. Hi Carrie--Last fall I contacted Butterball about their turkeys. I was told that Con Agra foods will clearly list wheat or gluten ingredients. I just went and looked that up--I had made a note in my CSA notebook. So much info. that sometimes I forget who said what!
  12. Hey Lis--I'm so sorry that your family is treating you this way. I know a lot of us have experienced the rolling eyes, and the glazed over expression that is really saying--yea, sure.... Sometimes when people don't understand something, they make jokes. Its immature and cruel, especially when it's family. Do you have a friend or someone else in your life...
  13. Hi Christine--I would think that the symptoms of stomachache, nausea, achey and numb legs, and rashes, while could be caused by something else, could also be caused by the Celiac. I have those myself, so that's why I say this. You could watch and see if the gluten-free diet helps with those symptoms. Remember that not every Celiac has GI troubles. It...
  14. This really varies, but I had lost 15 lbs. being really sick before I was Dx. In the first 2 months gluten-free, I gained 10 lbs. I ended up only gaining about 2 more and leveled off. I can stand to lose a little, and now that I'm feeling better, I've gotten back to doing Pilates and laying off the breads and things. I've lost 8 lbs. so far--the healthy...
  15. I got the same result, too--the cookies were flat and tasted good in the beginning, but got hard quickly. The flour mix also made me sick and I'm sure it was the tapioca flour--won't be using that again! I really like the choc. chip cookie recipe on the back of the Ener-g rice flour box. They don't come out like toll house cookies, more like little choc...
  16. Hi--it seems like there are quite a few of us here from NJ. My thoughts on your situation are that often the biopsy is neg. That dosen't necessarily mean you don't have it--it just means that a--you don't have enough damage yet, or b--the damage is in a different place than they took samples from. Think of it as "not positive" and not "negative". Given...
  17. Malt vinegars are not safe. There is another--apple cider FLAVORED vinegar. This is not to be confused with apple cider vinegar (which I use all the time). If you are ever in doubt at a restaurant, you could always order olive oil and lemon wedges and do your own.
  18. I live in Burlington Twp. How about you?
  19. Its funny--I've never had a dream about being Celiac, but ever since I have been gluten-free, I have more vivid dreams and I remember them more. I used to almost never remember dreaming--now I dream most every night and there have been some real crazy ones!
  20. Thanks Jen--I'm going to make a note of all these bars and look for them. BTW--I found Badger lip balm (and other of their things) at Whole Foods last weekend. I bought 2 of them--Cinnamon & Ginger. They are really good and no worries! Thanks for suggesting them
  21. As a Catholic, I choose not to take Communion at all under the present circumstances. It is an option to take the wine only, but there is a real chance of CC there. The last time I took Communion, I began to feel sick in the car on the way home. That was shortly before my DX. I am so sensitive to even the slightest amount of gluten that I'd be afraid...
  22. I have no desire to try oats. Although I enjoyed the taste (and loved the cookies) it would always give me mild D several times the day I ate it. I would only eat oatmeal on a day I knew I was going to be home all day. That was a while ago--I can only imagine what it would do to me now.
  23. Some great ideas there Thanks!
  24. Tiffany--What bars have you found that are good? I don't use soy, so I have a hard time finding one. I just like to have something in my purse when I go out.
  25. Richard, Please accept my sincere condolances on hearing about the death of your daughter. I can not imagine what you have been through this year. Please know that my prayers and my thoughts are with you and your family.
