  1. Sorry you are still feeling so bad! I had stomach pain usually while or just after eating the first 2-3 months gluten-free. I chalked it up to my intestines healing after having been damaged by gluten for so long. Was there soy in your chicken dish? It could be that soy or something else is causing it--but after only 3 weeks, if you're sure you're not...
  2. At 7 1/2 months, I'm far from a pro, but I see my GP currently every 3 months to monitor my BP. During those visits, we discuss whatever questions I have about my general health. Normally, I would only go once a year for a check-up. (female stuff, blood work, etc.). I went back to my GI at 2 months after Celiac Dx and again yesterday. He wants me to come...
  3. Carrie--Sorry to hear you had a reaction and are not feeling well . Do you think it might be the turkey? I have problems with turkey (including Butterball) unless I get a fresh one and roast it myself. Just a thought...I feel bad because I told you that they will label any gluten--I hope they were being truthful.
  4. Jillian--Thats so funny--I used to love to toast 2 slices of Pepperidge Farm White Bread, spread them with peanut butter, slice a banana and make a sandwich! Talk about setting yourself up for the day . I have since done this with rice bread--not too bad.
  5. Before I was Dx, I used to get them also. Not terribly often, but when I would get one, it would tend to come back after treatment. I would have to be on about 3 rounds of medication before it would completely go away. In the past 71/2 months gluten-free, I have not had one. Hopefully, this trend will continue!
  6. I joined today--can't post for 7 days, though, so see you there then!
  7. My husband always says it this way--Opinions are like a--holes--everybody has one and they all stink!
  8. Same here--except it was only 2 years ago. It was literally the first time anyone had said that to me. I had an appt. with my GI today and was a bit underwhelmed. I asked him about the other intolerances--especially the other grains. He just said that I may be sensitive to them, but the only thing I really have to worry about is the gluten. Told...
  9. Hi Bronco--I really just tweaked my tried and true recipe--Scrub and boil in salted water about 3 lbs. of potatoes until there is no resistance when you stick a knife in. Drain and let cool a bit while you make the dressing. For the dressing (sauce), I brown 1/2 lb. of bacon (I use Oscar Mayer) till crisp. Drain bacon. Reserve about 4 tbsp. fat in the...
  10. We just had a Cure 81 ham on Sunday! It was yummy and I made German potato salad to go with it
  11. I have been able to stop my Claritin, too. I had been on it for about 12 years--used to get it by Rx. I haven't taken it since last summer. Same with the Flonase.
  12. I was very lightheaded the first 1-2 months gluten-free. I agree with just making sure you're not getting any hidden gluten and try and get as much rest as you can. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water. It will pass--sometimes the healing process gets a bit worse before it gets better
  13. Bev--Don't regret the post, it actually came up the day I go to my GI for a follow up. In fact, I have to leave after I post this. I was reading with interest to see if there was anything I should ask. I'll fill him in on what I've encountered with respect to other food intolerances, my lingering symptoms, etc. Maybe he will be of help, and maybe not...
  14. I use soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion fron The Gluten Free Savonnerie. They use no gluten, nuts, soy, casein, fragrance or colorants at all in any of their products. No chance of CC there. For laundry, I use Purex Free & Clear. Switching laundry products made a difference in the itching for me, There are a couple brands of fabric softener sheets...
  15. I use the gluten-free Savonnerie products, too, and like them very much. I tried the California Baby Calming shampoo and bodywash and the skin cream and found that I didn't care for the scent. (to be fair, I am used to my Savonnerie stuff that has no scent--I had no neg. reaction to it). They do have an extra-sensitive line, also, but I've never tried...
  16. I had these things before my Dx. My hair had also thinned to the point that you could see my scalp in some places. The hair is now growing back a little and I am not losing any more. I've had my hair cut so the new areas blend in better with the rest. Somehow, with it being shorter, it looks thicker. I was anemic, and had been for a long time.
  17. Hi--I've been following this since yesterday and am glad to see you're okay . I had nothing to add to the recomendations to seek medical help and was hoping you did that without delay. I have a cyst on my ovary that they are "watching". Several times, the pain was so intense--but knowing what it was, I waited it out and the pain usually lasts about 1...
  18. Wow
  19. I would like to be involved, too--but I don't know anything about myspace
  20. Kitchen Bouquet is gluten free.
  21. There are people on here that have been diagnosed by their doctors using the positive response to the gluten-free diet only. As far as the co-workers, friends, etc.--I would just say that you are gluten intolerant and can not have anything with gluten, period. Then just do what you have to do--no need to make excuses to people or apologize or anything....
  22. Hi Amanda--Sounds like you have your hands full there with everyone sick! My experience is that if I get a cold or virus (really haven't had that many since going gluten-free), I get over it the same as always. Actually, better than before because when I was always sick, it would be kind of hard to tell if I was all the way over something. Hope you and...
  23. That's a good question about the immediate reaction. Mine begin about 2 hours after. It starts with cramping and a little while after that, I get D and the other things--nausea, shakiness, anxiety, etc. It is pretty gradual for me--not just bam!--what does vary for me is the length of time the reaction lasts.
  24. I don't know if this will help, but I asked at my Acme about stocking a certain juice that my son loves. The man told me that if Acme stocks a product in their warehouse, an individual store can get it. If (as in the case of the juice) Acme doesn't stock it in the whse., they can't order it. Since my Acme (which is also a small store) carries GFP, you...
  25. Hi Claire--I agree with your observation about Doctors. I also very much agree with the thought that the neuro. problems tend to get overlooked. Personally, most of my gastro. symptoms are controlled by the gluten-free diet. There are the occasional accidents, and the other intolerences to deal with, but the neuropathy, fuzzy thinking, facial numbness...
