  1. Judy--So sorry to hear about your dissapointing evening. I know how much you were looking forward to it. "What am I, from outer space?"--how funny!--not really, but you know what I mean . Hopefully, you didn't get sick on top of it! I think informing the manager is a good idea--they have a good reputation and maybe this time they slipped up on educating...
  2. Yea--that's why the hunger almost feels urgent--like "I need to eat now", rather than, "mmm, I could eat something....."
  3. Yes--it dosen't seem to make any sense, but even if I am sick from a gluten reaction, I still get hungry and also very thirsty. I think it seems strange, because we tend to equate the upset stomach, D and the rest of the symptoms as an illness--as the flu would be. The gluten reaction is, as we know, an autoimmune reaction--not a virus or a bacteria--so...
  4. Makes sense to me.
  5. Ursula--Have a relaxing and safe trip! Let us know all about it when you get back

    ARCHIVED Gi Doctor

My Gi had me come in 2 months after Dx and again 6 months later (2 days ago). He told me at this visit that he wants me to come back in 1 year. At the 2 month visit, I believe he was looking to confirm that the gluten-free diet was working. At the 6 month visit, he asked how I was doing, and upon hearing that the D had cleared up, was eager to end the...
  7. I almost never have a nightmare, although I do remember my dreams more often now. But last night, I had a dream that a certain neighbor that I don't get along with was at my house when I got home and was redecorating my family room. I didn't want any more trouble, so I let her do it! Even in my sleep, I can be a wuss sometimes
  8. I called Nestle's last month and asked about their cocoa powder. The woman told me that they will list any gluten ingred. and that they will also say on the label if the product is made on the same equipment as a product containing gluten or an allergen.
  9. Bev--So happy that your new Doc. listened and took action! Keeping my fingers crossed that you finally get the answers you've been looking for . Sounds good, though.
  10. It's My Space/pattinsj--I'm flying by the seat of my pants over there! This board is the only time I've been involved in an online group. I joined up so I could be a part of the Celiac group that Bronco started. Now I really have to get a picture! We bought a digital camera, so now I have no more excuses If I need help, can I count on you?
  11. Go to "Gluten Free Recipes--Baking and Cooking Tips".
  12. Yes--that is it, exactly.
  13. Thanks--that sounds great! My husband and I haven't been to NYC in quite a while--when we do go, Risotteria is definately on our list of places to go. Plus, I love the theatre, and it's been too long since we've been to a show .
  14. Hi--I can't help with the manicure since I do my own nails. When I go to the salon to get my hair cut, I ask the stylist to not use any products in my hair. Just rinse with water before the cut. (I wash my hair in the morning in the shower, so it's clean). Then they blow dry it without using any product and no hair spray. The woman who does my hair told...
  15. Glad you spoke with the teacher who gave permission in the first place. It's good that you have someone you can go to at school who understands and will stand up for you. Hope you're feeling better
  16. I agree completely--that's where I am in my life, too. I've been through a lot with this thing and absolutely refuse to apoligize, explain myself, or make myself sick to please anyone else. If someone is genuinely interested in learning about Celiac, I am more than happy to get the word out--other than that, I don't dwell on it, just do what I need to do...
  17. I use Smart Balance and like the flavor very much. I have not used it to bake--only as a spread and in mashed potatoes, etc.
  18. The gluten-free baked goods were making me gain weight also. I went through the "I can't have so many things anymore, so I'll eat as much as I want of the safe stuff" period and gained 12 lbs. in 2 months. I've cut way back on the treats--and begun exercising again. My weight is headed back down. I am not dieting the way I used to--I make sure I eat plenty...
  19. I'll be watching to see what you all come up with! When I tried to make brownies fron scratch, they came out dry. I tried 2 different recipes and they both were dry. I don't think I overbaked them because they were not hard around the edges or anything.
  20. Thanks Bronco--thats a great list and very helpful for those new to gluten-free shopping. I love Whole Foods--I usually go about twice a month or so. BTW--did you see my recipe for the German Potato Salad? I posted it a couple days ago. Kimberly--Have fun!
  21. I answered your post, as well as several others. I take offense to the word "hypocondriac". We discuss our symptoms and concerns and try to help when we can. I reread the thread in question--and I also ask--what was it that prompted your comments?
  22. Yea--come to think of it, mine are worse in the hot months. In general, I don't feel as well in hot weather as I do when it's cooler.
  23. Since I began healing, I go to sleep very easily. The problem is that I rarely stay asleep all night. I either have to use the bathroom or get hot flashes that wake me up. These are not associated with the Celiac, I don't think, in my case. In all, I believe I sleep better now than I did before.
  24. Wow--this affects a lot of us! I woke up with puffy hands more often than not before my Dx. The last 2 years or so, the left one would be worse and the thumb joint on that hand would be red, swollen and very painful. That would not go away with the hot shower and movement--it would last several days.
  25. I bought a box of quinoa several months ago. I didn't know of a good way to make it, so I just kind of forgot about it. After hearing what everyone is saying, I don't think I'll be trying it anytime soon!
