  1. Many times, people can tolorate the oil because there are no proteins in it.
  2. I would also gently urge him to pay attention to how much better he feels when he does not eat foods with gluten in them. Hopefully, as he feels better, he will begin to equate gluten with feeling sick, wetting the bed, etc.
  3. Bev--how wonderful. I think that by now, you have the gluten-free thing down and can handle anything regarding the Celiac pretty routinely. Having cleaned the gluten and other offenders out of your diet, you are probably more healthy now than ever. I did have morning sickness (actually all day!) with both boys, but it only lasted 12 weeks and the nausea...
  4. Viola--So after all these years, you are still sensitive to small amounts? I always wondered if we became less sensitive with time and healing. In my last post in this thread, I was speaking hypotheticly--like what if a person was sustaining damage, but for some reason, didn't feel any symptoms? Also, fresh in my mind was a discussion I just had with my...

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

What your Doctor said about your immune system makes sense. I'll be interested to know how you proceed with this as the weeks go on.
  6. I know--it's so depressing to be going along so well and then hit another wall. Those dry roasted nuts were probably trouble, it's good that you found out about those. Keep feeling good
  7. I mostly try and stay away from products made in the same facility. Of course, there are some exceptions. It's kind of a 'try and see how it goes' kind of thing for me. Some things are fine and others aren't. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. After a while, you'll know which will work for you.
  8. Hi Dani--To add my 2 cents to this, I think that because we, as Celiacs, are routinely told to stay away from dairy for the first 6 months, we tend to automaticly blame it for the additional symptoms we may get after going gluten-free. Now, I'm dairy free, by choice, since before my Dx. But the point of all of this eliminating and experimenting with the...
  9. Shannon--Glad you were able to get him right in. Best of luck tomorrow, hope they get to the bottom of this quickly
  10. I had both procedures done on the same day last June. I had to drink the gallon of laxative--1 glass every 20 minutes for 5 hours. I hope that your son will be spared that, at least. Before I started on it at around 2 PM, I had orange jello, apple juice and some clear chicken broth. Once I started the prep, I was not hungry. It was not pleasant and when...
  11. Thanks Jessica--I've never used it, but every once in a great while, I'll get a cold sore and it's good to know I could use it.
  12. Hi Carrie--I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you're having a bad time. Hopefully, the reaction won't last long. Feel better
  13. I had a reaction from Dove soap. It was when I ran out of Savonnerie soap and was waiting for the order. I had D and was very itchy. I don't use the Savonnerie lotion on my face--only on my hands mostly, and sometimes on my arms and legs. I found since using the MyChelle Honeydew Cleanser, I don't need moisturizer on my face at all. I love that stuff...
  14. Pamela's brownies also made me sick. In my opinion, The Gluten Free Pantry brownies are the best.
  15. You and I seem to have a lot of the same issues. I have that 20 or so extra pounds also. A friend and I did the Atkins diet a few years ago and I lost 25 lbs. in about 6 months. No real exercise, either. I also felt well while on that diet, but didn't know of the gluten connection then. The only time I lost wt. due to the Celiac was right before I was...
  16. I've been wanting to try those--and I didn't get the weight loss type, either!
  17. Hi Floridanative--I was completely out for mine. They first put a seditive in my IV that made me very relaxed. I really don't remember anything after that until I woke up. I felt fine when I woke up, had a little apple juice and got dressed a little while later. I wasn't groggy either, just felt rested. I was nervous before mine, but there was no need...
  18. Mr. Bam Bam--I am also gluten-free and dairy free. For condiments and spices I use Mc Cormick's spices, Frenchs Mustard, Heinz Regular Ketchup, Smart Balance Spread. I don't like bottled salad dressings, so I always use olive oil and Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar. My lunch almost every day is a large salad with veggies and the afore mentioned dressing. If...
  19. Hopefully whatever "got" you 2 days ago has worked it's way out of your system. I was glad to know about the CVS spices, too, because I have a CVS right down the street that I stop at often. Sometimes, when I only need 1 or 2 things, it's a lot faster to go there than all the way to the grocery store. Looks like you got the "boxes" down! Feel better...
  20. Well, I just got a call from Cindy at CVS. She told me that they can not say that their spices are gluten-free because they are not made in a certified gluten-free facility. There is a risk of cross contamination. With that said, she went on to say that if gluten were actually present in the product, it would be clearly listed on the package. That...
  21. Hi Amanda--Sorry you're feeling bad right now. The bright side is that you found out the source of the gluten. Sometimes, that is a hard thing to pin down. Now that it's out, you will begin to feel better. How long that will take depends on the individual. We're all different. For some it takes a few days, and for others up to 2 weeks or longer. There...
  22. I eat the Natural Thick Cut and the Natural Reduced Fat Ruffles. Both are great and I have had no problems.
  23. Yes--I had no luck with calling the corporate office at Friday's. That's why I called the restaurant that I would be going to. Even if someone has a great experience at their local restaurant, I believe it's still a good idea to call the one you would be attending because they are all run by different individuals.
  24. Hi Judy--Doing pretty good today. This weather is great--so mild for Jan.--they say it should hit 60 by Thurs! To keep the "box", make sure to keep the
  25. It makes sense to me--Especially when our intestines are "healed" and we could maybe "get away with" ingesting gluten once in a while. While we might get lucky and not get sick, the damage would still be happening. Since we hear so much of people having no symptoms but flattened villi, and conversely, those with terrible GI symptoms and little or no apparent...
