ARCHIVED celiac disease And Other Food Intolerances?
jerseyangel replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I knew! Like I said, I'm having a lot of problems in this area. I have read that we should completely avoid the foods that we're intolerant to for 6 months to a year and try them again. It gets so confusing sometimes--best of luck in getting to the bottom of it -

Me too--I loved the gum! I was so dissapointed when I found out it wasn't safe. -
ARCHIVED Do Everyone Have Setbacks In The Beginning?
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cassidy--I know how dissapointing it is to get that "taste" of feeling better, only to backslide and get some symptoms back. This is common--3 weeks is a short time in terms of healing. It took me that long to just figure out what I was doing wrong! The best thing you can do for yourself is to continue to keep the gluten out of your life. The first... -

ARCHIVED Rice Milk
jerseyangel replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only kind I've used is Pacific Foods Rice Milk. I didn't drink it on it's own, but it was good added to other foods like mashed potatoes. I used it to make a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and it was very good in that, too. In tea, it lightened it up, but it didn't add the creaminess of milk. -

ARCHIVED Overweight And Celiacs
jerseyangel replied to krackers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nini--Girl, you look great! You have good reason to jump for joy--I know you were a bit concerned about the weight loss, but after looking at your face in the picture, I think you look healthy--your face does not have that "sunken" look at all that can come from losing too much too fast in an unhealthy way. I say it's all doing what it's supposed to be... -

I thought everyone saved the last spoonful of frosting to eat while they scraped the rest of it from the can . And did someone mention vanilla frosting on graham crackers? I used to do that all the time! -
Hi Blueangel, and welcome! Sorry you're having a hard time with your skin. Have you checked that the products you are using have no wheat or oats in them? If you can't tell by reading the labels, you could call the companies or try and post any ingred. you are unsure of and maybe someone here can help you with that. Even a product that you have been using...

ARCHIVED Wheat In Face Creams
jerseyangel replied to CMCM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've never used (I don't think) a face cream with wheat in it, but I have gotten a reaction from hair gel, soap, lipstick(naturally), and a facial cleanser. The reactions were all digestive--the soap also made me very itchy, although no rash or anything. I find that it's just too easy for the product to get into my mouth, so I use only products that are... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease And Other Food Intolerances?
jerseyangel replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ms. SS--I am having some of the same issues as you with other food intolerances. There are others here that can explain it much better than I can, but the way I understand it is--when we have a leaky gut caused by the damage done by years of gluten, things that we eat and should stay within the digestive tract leak out, and then they are "attacked" by the... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great idea Nini--you can count me in. I was a Girl Scout for many years and have such good memories. It would be so good to have one of the familiar cookies made gluten-free for us! -
I sure have! I saw a Kineisologist 2 years ago while trying to figure out what was wrong with me. He used muscle testing, and was the first person to tell me that I must not eat wheat, oats, barley or rye. He also said the same about eggs, dairy, soy, corn, and coconut. He also made recomendations about suppliments, water, and foods that I should eat...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods Brand Organic Trail Mix

This is all good info,--does anyone know if Sun Maid whole pitted dates (in the red bag) are safe? I've been snacking on them with no problem. -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Nut Thins
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm glad I saw this--I noticed the Nut Thins at Whole Foods the last time I was there. I thought about getting them because I haven't had a good cracker in a long time. Foods with the made in a factory with... are notorious for giving me a reaction, so I'll skip those--thanks -
ARCHIVED Quinoa
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rachel--for what it's worth, I think your Dr. is right on the money. The "mimicry" theory is behind why many people with gluten intolerance react to casein. I know that I react to all grains--some more than others, and some in different ways than others. If anything, I believe it's the other way around--doctors like the one you found are rare in that they... -
ARCHIVED Would You Cure Yourself If You Could....
jerseyangel replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think eating the way I do now is the way I'm supposed to eat--I have found that I do much better when I limit (once a week) all other grains, and legumes. If it weren't for the Celiac, I would not have had the insight to change my diet. Once the gluten was completely out, I could clearly see that other foods were causing problems--and not just digestive... -
I think Wheat Free Worry Free is a much better book to buy if you're new, and are only going to buy one or two books on the subject. In the gluten-free Bible, the author listed one of the meds. I take daily as being "not gluten free". After checking into it with the co. that produces the med., I found out that it was gluten-free, and the starch used was...

ARCHIVED I've Just Been Diagnosed
jerseyangel replied to aimee-in-ok's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Aimee--I don't have much to add to all the good advice already offered here, but I just wanted to say welcome in . Remember to keep eating gluten until you have the biopsy done so you don't get a false negative. Best of luck and come here anytime you have questions. Like Jen said--Wheat Free Worry Free is a great book, especially for someone new to...
