  1. I have a few thoughts that might help ease your anxiety about this whole thing. I'm certainly no expert, but just a person who has been at this for 7 months. The problem with non stick pans is that if there are any cuts in them, gluten can get stick there and probably won't wash out. New or perfectly smooth (no cuts at all) non sticks should be fine. ...
  2. In this case, I believe its Gluten Free Gourmet.
  3. Hi Donna--I actually had that cracking at the corners of my mouth and when I was the most sick to my stomach, I would get cracks in my lips. When I learned that those things could be symptoms of Celiac, it made sense because I could never figure out why it happened. Topical things like lip balms etc. never really helped. When I began the gluten-free diet...
  4. Yes, I quit my job in the fall of 03. I really loved that job and did not want to leave, but at the time, I had used all of my sick and personel days. I had fainted at work and was dizzy much of the time. Add to that the stomach/bathroom issues, which were becoming increasingly more urgent and unpredictable, and the general fatigue. My anxiety kind of...
  5. I have not read the book, but will as soon as I can get a hold of one. I also pretty much eat this way now. Since I'm gluten and dairy free and have cut way, way back on rice and the other grains we use, I guess I have, at least, a good start. Since starting to eat this way only about 2 weeks ago, I notice improvements in my skin and have lost some weight...
  6. Hi Random Guy--Good luck--you sound like you have a great attitude about all this and I know you'll do fine! We're always here to help
  7. Yea--I'd be pi--ed off, too. You and your daughter sick like that --hope you guys get some things worked out.
  8. Hey Nini--I hear ya. Could it be that maybe he is doing these things to "prove" that "just a crumb" won't hurt? Like if there are crumbs around, or if your food touches his a little bit, and you don't get sick (outward symptoms, anyway), then he can say--see, you have been overreacting! Even though in reality, you're running around after him like a crazy...
  9. Thanks, Jessica--I did read the article and deceided to write after the holidays. It is important to all of us and you've just made it even easier
  10. I can't believe how much foil I use now!
  11. Hi Beth--Thanks for the suggestion. I use Clabber Girl baking powder and it actually says gluten free on the label! I feel much better, thanks and I really do think it was the tapioca. I may be wrong, but I didn't eat any more of the stuff made w/the flour mix and the wierd symptoms went away within a day or so. I find it interesting that you can't tolerate...
  12. Hi Miko--In addition, I would say that the hunger you feel is common after going gluten-free. Your body is finally getting what it should from the food you eat and the hunger and fatigue are part of the healing process. In the inital stage of the diet, I tried to give in to what my body was asking for--eat when I was hungry (100% gluten-free, of course...
  13. How the heck long does it take for the itching to go? My back, sides, upper arms, upper legs still itch--although I notice it much more if I'm sitting still or lying down.
  14. So true about us being the lucky ones compared to all those not DX. I'm working out my anger, too, and realize that that anger may be just as harmful to me as the Celiac. It's a process we have to work through and I look forward to reaching the other side of it. Continue to feel better
  15. Yes!--We used to like having their chicken once in a while. I don't see why it has to have wheat, either. Its not like it's crispy or anything!
  16. My first try at gluten-free baking was to just substitute rice flour for the regular flour in a coffee cake muffin recipe that we liked. Big mistake--they were hard and crumbly. I soon learned about xanthan gum and potato starch, tried it again and they were really good! Whatever you try, just know that gluten-free baking has its own quirks and you will...
  17. I had the mucus also pre DX. It continued even after I cut out gluten, but after the first couple of months, dissapeared. I never have a problem with it now, even if glutened.
  18. Nini--I forgot to say that my Dr. told me that I could split the dose and take them separately--one with each large meal. She knows I have stomach issues and am sensitive. I don't know if that would help, but I took it that way and the D and stomache was not too bad.
  19. Yea--I know what you mean!
  20. The Doctor found "gastritis in the antrium" during my Endo. I believe that meant that my inflamation is at the beginning of the small intestine. Anyway, he told me, that day, to begin the gluten-free, dairy free diet. I think that type must be connected to Celiac.
  21. Hi Jen, sorry you're not feeling well . Yes, I can tolerate Zithromicin (in the Z-pack). Needless to say, I hope I don't end up needing to take it very often as it seems to be the last strain that I can tolerate. I had mild gastro. side effects with it which are common. My Dr. said to make sure and take it with a meal--not just a small amount of food...
  22. Gee--I'll have to check and see if any of Nutro's cat foods are gluten-free. The one I buy for my cat (Nutro Adult Formula) has wheat in it. I don't think thats as big an issue for me, though, as I'm the only one that has to be careful (no little ones w/Celiac), and I've been careful to wash my hands after feeding him. I also get it at Petco and get...
  23. I am allergic to many strains of antibiotics--probably due to taking so many of them while being misdiagnosed. These include: Pennicillin, Biaxin, Sulfa drugs, K-flex. My reactions are hives and dizziness. My Dr. told me that it was not unusual to be fine with an antibiotic one time and then the next time have a reaction. That's how it was with me--except...
  24. Great to hear anytime Celiac is in the news!
