ARCHIVED What Happens When U Get Contaminated?
jerseyangel replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have Celiac Disease, then, yes, a slip up will cause damage. That's not to say that if you've made progress and are healing, you will undo it all, but there is always damage done when a Celiac consumes gluten. The gluten causes an autoammune reaction that attacks the villi that line the small intestine. You have to be careful about the food and... -
ARCHIVED Unusual Gluten Symptom?
jerseyangel replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, my anxiety did get a lot better on the gluten free diet. It took around 4 months or so to see a difference. At that time, I felt calmer and more positive when I woke up in the morning. I have not had a panic attack in that time, but probably being aware of my heartbeating while glutened may mean that there are still issues with anxiety. I also feel... -
ARCHIVED Unusual Gluten Symptom?
jerseyangel replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cleveland Bob, Thank you for sharing that with me. I try not to equate everything I feel as something connected to gluten, but the timing was too much of a coincidence. I'm 6 months into this and still learning. Merry Christmas to you --Patti -
ARCHIVED Okay Sooo Do I Ahve celiac disease Or Am I Sick In Head?
jerseyangel replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Vincent--I'm glad you are going to keep on being gluten-free. Hopefully, you can get your tests for other possible sensitivites, but you can and will get better by being gluten-free. As you heal from the gluten, I wouldn't be surprised if the other sensitivites become more obvious and you can omit them and see how you do. After I was gluten-free for a... -
ARCHIVED Lotions
jerseyangel replied to ILOVEOMC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry--I don't know about the Vaseline or B & Bodyworks. I wanted to suggest the lotion from The Gluten Free Savonnerie. It is produced in a gluten-free facility and is very mild and creamy with no scent at all. My hands get very dry and chapped in the winter especially. Most, if not all lotions I have tried always made my hands sting when applied... -
Hi Lovinglife, and welcome! I experienced hip pain that was much worse in the morning. If I woke up with it, I would have trouble just turning over. The other issue was with the joint in my thumb. It would get red and be painful and swollen. These seem to have lessened since I went gluten free 6 months ago. Anyway, glad you found us here --Patti

ARCHIVED Engerize G Egg Replacement?
jerseyangel replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Michelle--Those are some great tips, there. Thanks for posting all of it. I'm sensitive to eggs, but can get away with them if baked in something so that I only get a fraction of one in a serving. I can not eat straight eggs--about 4 hours or so after, I get horrible nausea. I would like to get the knack of baking without them, too, as I'd feel... -
I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen: I was glutened over the weekend with all of my usual symptoms. One thing that has never happened before is that from a day or so before the gastro. stuff started, I could hear my heart beating. It was not fast and there was no chest pain or anything like that, but I was very aware of the beating--kind...

ARCHIVED What Are The Possiblities
jerseyangel replied to Moongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome From the sound of your symptoms, the positive blood result and your mom's DX, there's a strong possibility as you already know. Keep in mind that the biopsy can miss damage--maybe too soon to show damage or the Dr. can miss the damaged areas. That does not mean that you do not have Celiac--no matter what the results of the biopsy are.... -
ARCHIVED What Is The "real Deal" With Corn?
jerseyangel replied to CeliaCruz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am very sensitive to corn, also. I probably have been all along, but it became more pronounced after I went gluten-free. Corn does not cause the same damage to the villi that gluten does in a Celiac. The symptoms may be similar, but no damage. -

ARCHIVED New To Site- Looking For Advice- Long Post!
jerseyangel replied to chaddwell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My hair has thinned terribly--I think I have 1/2 the amount of hair that I did when I was 20. I've been gluten-free for 6 months now, and I do notice that I am not losing hair any more. Thats fine with me, I'm really not expecting to grow new hair (I'm 49) but if I stop losing, I'll be happy. I also notice that the hair I do have is healthier looking-... -
ARCHIVED Engerize G Egg Replacement?
jerseyangel replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Kasey's Mom, I appreciated reading the tips you gave about adding more liquid with the ener-g. When I use it, whatever I try it in comes out dry and dense--what am I doing wrong? I mix it w/the water like you said, but I'm going wrong somewhere--Thanks, Patti -
ARCHIVED Oh My Tummy!
jerseyangel replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Vincent--So sorry that your not feeling well. Bummer, I know. I have to say that your symptoms do sound like they're gluten related. And the family connection with your son. Maybe the new tests will uncover something--I hope so! At this point, I would listen to what your body is telling you (since the tests won't tell). I wish I had more to offer -
ARCHIVED Sixteen W/ Cd
jerseyangel replied to sweetiegrl109's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was going to say the same thing about getting a Dr.s note explaining your condition so you could bring in food from home. If they argue that they provide a choice (salad) that is "safe" for you, cite the cross contamination issue. It is very real and the reason why myself, and others here don't eat at restaurants. Until this lovely disease hit me, I... -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
jerseyangel replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I had both procedures done on the same day back in June. As everyone said, the Colo. prep. is the worst part. I remember nothing after they wheeled me into the room and put the meds. into my IV. I woke up feeling fine--no discomfort at all. I think a lot of it is the fear of the unkown--I was so nervous before, too--the next time, I'll know what to... -

I'm happy to report that I'm already feeling better. Thank you, Kim07, for your kind words regarding me in your post. Rachel, isn't that a new photo? How cute! In response to your question--I use soap, shampoo, and conditioner from The Gluten Free Savonnerie. Its owned by a couple in Mass., the wife is a Celiac. They are nice to deal with--the products...

ARCHIVED Ladies Only....feminine Problems?
jerseyangel replied to mandigirl1's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I find I have very similar symptoms when I eat too much sugar in the form of cake, cookies, etc. gluten-free bread, dark chocolate (in other forms) don't seem to be a problem for me. I think that the relatively large amounts of sugar in those kinds of things, along with the flours kind of put me over the edge in terms of the itching. Hope this helps and... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Novacaine
jerseyangel replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mandi--your post made me think about something similar that happened to me a good 12 years ago. I went in to have a wisdom tooth pulled. The dentist used Novacaine. After he gave me the shot, I got warm, dizzy and lighheaded, like I was going to faint. They elevated my legs, and let me rest a while. I felt better and went on to have the tooth pulled... -

ARCHIVED Airborne Cold Remedy
jerseyangel replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe that I read on here that Airborne is gluten free. Did you try a search? I've never tried it, but have heard good things about it. I found the link: Open Original Shared Link.
